11 Times a Gun Stopped Matters From Getting Worse

We’re in a new year, but gun control advocates are back to their same tactics of wanting to make it much harder for law-abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

Perhaps one of the worst offenders is Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, who recently introduced a bill to create a national gun license and registration program that effectively would turn the right to keep and bear arms into a privilege for which citizens must prove their worthiness to the government.

First, let us acknowledge that the majority of defensive gun uses are accomplished without even firing a shot. Second, when shots are fired, criminals usually become late for a different appointment and flee. Therefore, even a small gun with limited ammunition capacity will get the armed citizen out of a jam most of the time, statistically. However, do we want to count on those statistics? The shift in the nature of violence in the past decade should not be ignored. Will a shot from a small pocket pistol send the average carjacker or mugger fleeing? Most likely. However, is such “average” street crime the only concern facing us in contemporary America? Hardly.

Tomorrow, the House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to consider House Bill 2543. This measure removes an important failsafe during the background check process that could create an indefinite delay during a firearm purchase. This would give the government unlimited discretion to prevent someone from exercising their Second Amendment rights. Please contact members of the House Judiciary Committee and ask them to OPPOSE House Bill 2543.

A Nashville, TN man was the victim of a home invasion but was able to turn the attack against the suspect by taking the attacker’s gun away and using it against him.

The resident told police that he disarmed the suspect and that he “shot several times at the suspect causing him to flee.”

Witnesses saw a man running down the street after the shots, and a short time later, a man matching the description of the suspect walked into a medical center with gunshot wounds to his hip and shoulder.

Chinatown Chamber of Commerce's Carl Chan lamented his arrest and that of others in similar circumstances.

“When I talk to the entire community they feel sad that someone is trying to help others and ends up to be the one arrested or being in custody,” Chan told KPIX.

In a press conference following the incident, Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong explained that police do not want firearms to be shot in the community, even in self-defense, to prevent others from getting hurt.

This past Sunday, Joe Biden did what we knew was coming — he officially announced his intention to launch an assault against Americans’ Second Amendment rights. Using the anniversary of the Parkland school massacre and shamelessly exploiting those dead children, Biden dubiously couched his affront against the Constitution as “commonsense.” He listed several “gun law reforms” he wants Congress to pass. Notably, none of them would do anything to stop criminals from acting criminally, and at least some of them would make criminals of law-abiding citizens.

Gun control is the promise that ink on paper will protect our children. That isn’t a new idea. We’ve had gun control laws for over a century. Today, we have over twenty thousand firearms regulations, and we were told that each and every one of them was the essential step that would finally make us safe.

We’re told that honest civilians should be disarmed, but the first thing we do at the sign of danger is called someone with a gun.

During the public comment section of Monday’s meeting, Don Nunemaker Jr. requested that the County Commissioners look at designating the county as a Second Amendment sanctuary.

A Second Amendment sanctuary is a state, county, or other locality inside the country that adopts a resolution or law that opposes enforcement of certain gun control measures.

Kosciusko County Commissioners designated the county as a sanctuary county on Dec. 22, 2020. Fulton County Commissioners also passed a resolution in January to become a sanctuary county.

He said another consequence of the legislation is that it creates an entirely new category of civil action targeting police officers.

Roberts isn’t the only one raising questions. Greene County Sheriff Bob Arnott said he and other sheriffs across the state also are concerned about the impact this legislation will have. He then noted that his department routinely partners with federal agencies to investigate local crimes that also violate federal laws because it’s better for the community.

UT: Gun control doesn’t disregard the Constitution

Every year more than 30,000 U.S. citizens die because of murder or suicide, and guns injured more than 2,000 of them. Between 2014 and 2019, the number of people killed during mass shootings was 2,083.

The Second Amendment states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” It seems like guaranteeing the individual rights to bear guns was not the intention of the Second Amendment. If this interpretation is accurate, establishing higher requisites to own a pistol or limit its access is not against the law.

The battle over new federal gun control measures is heating up, with local Second Amendment advocates warning of incoming bans on semi-automatic firearms and ammunition magazines from the Biden administration. Adam Kraut with the Sacramento-based Firearm Policy Council says nearly 5-dozen firearm-related bills have already been introduced in the U.S. Congress.

A South Carolina man pulled his truck up to a gas pump around 5:30 PM last Thursday. Another truck pulled in right behind him and the man driving got out armed with a knife and approaches the first truck. He then opened the door of the first truck and presumably threatened the driver who fired one shot in self-defense. The 34-year-old man with the knife did not survive the injury.

What sets Rocky Mountain Freedom Training (RMFT) apart from other Colorado firearm training courses is that their classes are not only less expensive, they also teach state firearm laws, use-of-force situation training, proper handgun selection for beginners and advanced shooters, situational awareness, and how to create a personal protection plan.

House Bill 1283’s substitute still creates a felony charge for the open carry of firearms in certain situations. The vague definitions in the measure could still ensnare individuals who are lawfully exercising their Second Amendment rights, entirely based on the actions of others.

I think the Supreme Court is going to take up many more Second Amendment cases. Many of the more progressive gun regulations you see from cities in California and the state are going to face a much more conservative Supreme Court.

While the Biden administration and the Democrat-controlled legislature are putting forth their gun control agendas, states are passing legislation that provides more choice for gun owners, regardless of what happens federally. These include permitless carry legislation and declarations of sanctuary state and county status.

According to a recent Fox News report, Bank of America secretly turned over hundreds of its customers’ personal data to the federal government following the unrest at the Capitol on January 6. The targeted customers included those who made purchases at “weapons-related merchants” in early January. The report suggested that the nation’s second-largest bank turned the private information over voluntarily rather than in response to a subpoena. Bank of America’s willing collaboration with federal law enforcement at the expense of its customers highlights the broad threat posed by those that would commandeer ostensibly private banks and payment processors to undermine Second Amendment rights.

Maybe, just maybe, if Illinois State Representative Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) gets his way, the Illinois FOID card might finally be tossed into the dustbin of history. Mr. Chesney has filed House Bill 1770 (HB1770), which, if signed into law, would repeal the FOID Card Act.

I called Representative Chesney this morning to ask him about HB1770, and he was kind enough to take a few minutes with me.

"I think it's important that our school kids have an opportunity to learn about firearm safety," bill sponsor Rep. Rex Shipp, R-Cedar City, told members of the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

The course would be part of physical education and carry a half-credit. It would be elective for students who want the training, with parents able to prohibit their kids from taking it, Shipp said. During the program, students could only use replica, non-operating firearms at school.

NRA lobbyist Brian Gosch, a former House Republican leader from Rapid City, watched from the upstairs gallery Tuesday afternoon, as the state Senate reinstated and expanded a section of South Dakota law protecting people’s freedom to have guns and ammunition and to keep shooting ranges open during times of “disaster war, acts of terrorism, or emergencies of whatever kind or nature.”

The Senate’s 32-3 vote along Republican-Democrat lines sends SB 100 to the House for further action. Senate Republican leader Gary Cammack of Union Center was prime sponsor. Republican Speaker Spencer Gosch of Glenham, a relative of lobbyist Gosch, is lead sponsor in the House.
