After hearing arguments for and against a proposed resolution to make Delta County a “sanctuary county” for the Second Amendment from county residents, the Delta County Board of Commissioners narrowly voted to adopt the resolution Tuesday.

Under the resolution, Delta County will be declared a Second Amendment sanctuary county. The board will support the county’s sheriff and prosecuting attorney in the exercise of their discretion to not enforce unconstitutional firearms laws.

The decision to move forward with the resolution was made during the board’s regular meeting Tuesday evening, which was held at the Delta County Courthouse instead of the Delta County Service Center due to anticipated attendance levels.

Virginia Governor Ralph “Blackface” Northam suffered another defeat Monday. Lost among news of the Democrats’ disastrous Iowa Caucus fiasco, Old Dominion lawmakers blocked another of Northam’s gun control proposals.

Northam wanted to make it a felony for gun owners to allow their minor kids access to firearms for self-defense or other lawful purposes. Or even have a loaded firearm present for defense of the home.

Remarkably, or perhaps not so much, two Democrats voted against the measure, killing it in a Senate committee.

“It’s a shame on the citizens of Sussex County if this room isn’t packed at the next meeting when the budget is adopted,” said Carl Luthman. “We will have no reason to complain (about taxes).”

Luthman began his three minutes of open mike by saying he was “angered at the time and effort which has gone into discussion of the Second Amendment.”

At the last board meeting in January, the freeholders heard almost two hours from the public discussing a possible resolution by the board in support of Second Amendment rights.

I fear that we often put too much emphasis on guns and gear when we consider our own personal defense. A person can be armed with the latest firearm, the very best ammunition and still lose the fight. It happens because we fail to see the trouble brewing until it is right in our face. At that point, it may be entirely too late to put all that excellent equipment to use in time to make a difference. In addition to the surprise, we may have never given serious thought of what to do when violence is visited upon us.

After an hour-and-a-half of public comment and addresses from commissioners, the Iredell County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution naming Iredell a Constitutional Rights Protection County Tuesday.

Iredell joins a growing number of such counties though some call themselves Second Amendment Sanctuaries. The effort within the state and nationally was triggered by gun control laws proposed in Virginia.

The board’s chambers were filled with residents largely in support of the resolution which mentioned the second amendment specifically in its text.

Veteran gun owners and experts of Central New York shared their insights with new and future gun owners about how to be safe and responsible.

Bill Koury is a salesman at the Vernon National Firearms Trading Company in Sherrill and has been in the gun business for 50 years. For Koury, buying a gun isn’t like buying a car.

“We have to make sure whatever we sell you works for you,” Koury said. “Stay away from anybody who tells you ‘This is the gun for you’.”

The volume of records run through the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) last month, often considered a relative barometer of firearm sales, shattered all previous records for January. It eclipsed the highwater mark set for the 31-day period in 2016—the year Americans purchased more guns than ever—by more than 150,000.

Each NICS check doesn’t necessarily reflect a purchase, however, and the increase in carry permits and renewals processed through the system clouds direct interpretation.

The Emmons County Commission passed a resolution at its last meeting in support of the Second Amendment in the wake of gun control laws in other areas of the country.

Some say gun rights are an important issue in North Dakota. Emmons County's commission wanted to establish its position on gun laws.

"The whole intent of it is that we support the Second Amendment, but it's not anything to be divisive or exclusionary. The intent wasn't ever to create any kind of feeling that we were trying to supersede any kind of law," said Erin Magrum, Emmons County commissioner.

When asked if she would support House committee chairmen sending subpoenas for former White House national security adviser John Bolton to testify, the California Democrat replied that Trump should be held to oversight.

Presque Isle County Sheriff Joseph Brewbaker said he would not remove guns from a resident’s home under a red-flag law, even if such a law was enacted in the state.

Brewbaker said he believes a red flag law goes against the U.S. Constitution. He says constitutional rights, including the amendments, is what he enforces as a sheriff and is what he was sworn in to do.

“That would be going against an amendment in my opinion,” he said.

Hill and his team looked at the National Opinion Research Center's General Social Survey, comprising data collected from 1973 to 2018. Data initially appeared to indicate a positive connection between gun ownership and happiness. But once researchers delved deeper and factored marital status into the analysis, they found that gun owners were more likely to be married than non-gun owners. Researchers concluded that it was not gun ownership but rather being married that was producing the group's happiness.

A series of gun bills are working their way through the state legislature that could open some previously restrict areas.

The first bill, Senate File 116, would allow gun owners to keep their firearms in their vehicles while dropping off children and items in a school parking lot.

Firearms would be prohibited anywhere outside of the vehicle while on campus. Supporter said this bill would make thing easier for gun owners, as they would not have to make extra trips to put away their firearms while they visited the campus.

The number of gun sales in Virginia nearly doubled last month as the Democrat-controlled state government advanced several new gun-control bills.

There were 67,699 gun purchase-related background checks in the state during January, an 84.6 percent increase over January 2019, according to an analysis of FBI data. The number of background checks continued a three-month upward trend, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). The surge in sales has coincided with a push from a newly empowered Democratic majority to pass new gun-control laws supported by Governor Ralph Northam (D).

Less than 24 hours before the hearing, the House Public Safety Committee announced that they WILL be hearing House Bill 961 that outlaws millions of semi-automatic firearms. This is the crown jewel in the Northam-Bloomberg gun ban agenda. Make no mistake, millions of Virginians will become felons if they refuse to turn over their guns or register them with the government.

The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturer’s Institute has recently approved two new cartridges: the 1-3/4″ shotshell and the 6.5-284 Norma rifle cartridge
The 6.5-284 Norma has actually been around for a while even though most shooters probably haven’t heard of the round. A modification of the .284 Winchester, it was internationally standardized in 1999 and has seen extensive usage in the long-range benchrest competition community. It pushes a 130-gr. bullet around 2,900 fps and is known best for its long-range accuracy at 1,000 yards. It remains to be seen if it becomes popular compared to the newer 6.5 PRC round which is actually a tad bit better in most categories, including cost.
