It was a rally, and a finish, for the ages.
Trailing Alaska by 5 points and host Kentucky by 4 going into the air rifle competition on the final day of the NCAA Rifle national championship, West Virginia needed to make up some ground in a discipline where it's difficult to complete big comebacks against the elite shooters in the country. However, WVU did just that, outscoring UK by five and Alaska by 17 to take home its 20th national title, the most of any school.
WVU's 4738 was one point better than the Wildcats' 4737, who hosted the event in their on-camps Memorial Coliseum.
After a tough start in smallbore on Day 1, WVU performed the necessary mental reset, producing counting scores of 596, 597, 597 and 598 in air rifle. |

The debate over self-defense laws in the United States often boils down to two major legal doctrines: duty to retreat and stand your ground. According to The U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), the duty to retreat principle requires individuals to attempt to escape a dangerous situation before resorting to force, especially deadly force. This legal framework prioritizes de-escalation and conflict avoidance over immediate self-defense.
