Thanks to the hard work and support of our members, we have finally achieved the goal of removing dangerous Gun-Free Zones in K-12 Schools, Colleges, most public buildings, the State Capitol, and most public places in Wyoming!
GOA fought hard to pass this bill in 2022 and 2023, and we ultimately got it over the finish line in 2024, only to have Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon veto it.
Now we have finally been successful in returning Second Amendment Rights that should have never been taken away! |

One of the rules of responsible gun ownership is to practice and train often. I go to the range at least twice a month including ongoing training with firearms instructors periodically. The last few times I went to the range I have seen several black women with instructors. One black woman stopped to chat with me, she was nervous, it was her first time learning to use a hand gun. I listened to her, encouraged her and then told her, “I’m with you.” I know quite a few black women are already well versed gun owners and probably much more knowledgeable with firearms then I am, but the ladies I’m bumping into are very new and with instructors/husbands/boyfriends teaching them the basics. |

The startling headline knocked me out of my morning news-browsing haze. “More Than 2,500 Non-Self Defense Deaths Involving Concealed Carry Killers Since 2007, Latest Violence Policy Center Research Shows,” the headline seemed to scream at me.
“Oh, no,” I realized. “They’ve caught us. Finally, the truth has come out about how truly dangerous it is to have people walking around all over the country with concealed firearms and a bloodlust for innocent victims.”
Actually, that’s not at all what I thought. However, after reviewing the article from an organization that has never encountered an anti-gun proposal it didn’t support, I realized that’s the impression they wanted to create with the headline. |

On February 27, 2025, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon allowed Wyoming Bill 172, the “Wyoming Repeal Gun Free Zones Act”, to become law without his signature. Governor Gordon objected to the bill but said it would become law.
The Wyoming Repeal Gun Free Zones Act does essentially what the name implies. It repeals most of the areas where the legislature has allowed local political entities to infringe on rights protected by the Second Amendment. |

The Senate on Thursday passed a bill that would expand Kansas law enforcement officers’ options for confiscated firearms.
Under current law, agencies can sell or give away the guns they seize when someone is convicted of a crime, but under civil asset forfeiture, which doesn’t require a conviction, selling firearms or giving them away are not available options. |

The 33 state senators who voted Feb. 12 to allow concealed-carry handguns on South Dakota’s college campuses sounded positively giddy with themselves as they passed Senate Bill 100 and sent it on to the House of Representatives.
Listening to the chamber congratulate itself on passing this bill, which Sen. Jim Mehlhaff, R-Pierre, described as possibly the “finest piece of legislation we will deal with all year,” was galling to many South Dakotans. |

Despite committee votes, resolutions and fiery speeches, pro-gun rights lawmakers last Congress were stymied when it came to rolling back Biden-era firearm regulations.
House Republicans voted to overturn a rule that cracked down on firearms with stabilizing braces, only to have Senate Democrats reject the effort. One long-shot bill to abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives never made it out of committee. And although the House proposed policy riders in funding legislation attacking firearm regulations, those provisions were not included in a package negotiated with Democrats. |

The Constitution’s Second Amendment protections don’t include machine guns, the Indiana Court of Appeals ruled last week, citing existing case law. The term includes the fully automatic firearms and conversion devices.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officers arrested a then-18-year-old Jacob McGee, toting a Glock 22 fitted with a conversion device, in 2023. He was convicted of Level 5 felony machine gun possession in Marion Superior Court and sentenced to four years: two in community corrections and two suspended to probation. |

Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-Franklin/Adams) re-introduced the Pennsylvania Right to Bear Arms Act to reaffirm the state’s historic stand for freedom and protect a right that predates even the United States Constitution.
The bill would prohibit the enforcement of any new federal restrictions, prohibitions or registration requirements on firearms, magazines and ammunition in the Commonwealth. It would also prevent state or local resources from being used to enforce what he termed unconstitutional federal mandates. |

The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) has finalized a sweeping ban on dispersed recreational shooting – where forest visitors set up targets and practice shooting in an undesignated, undeveloped location – across 73% of the 1.1 million-acre Pike National Forest, a move that has drawn significant opposition from Second Amendment advocates.
The decision, part of the agency’s Integrated Management of Target Shooting Project, aims to address what officials call “unacceptable risks to public safety” as the forest sees increased use from hikers, cyclists, and off-roaders. |

On Thursday, Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduced the Second Amendment for Every Registrable (SAFER) Voter Act, which would lower the age to purchase a handgun from a federal firearms licensee (FFL) to 18 from 21.
The HR 1643 bill looks to roll back a federal law requiring a person to be 21 or older to transfer any handgun through an FFL. This law covers the sale of handguns and all other handgun transfers through an FFL. A transferee must be 21 before they can legally be processed through the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for a transfer of a handgun. That prevents young adults from buying handguns from gun dealers. |

On the heels of a U.S. appeals court ruling on January 30 against a federal law banning handgun sales to persons under 21, Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) has reintroduced a bill that would officially repeal that law.
Massie’s bill, HR 1643, is titled the “Second Amendment for Every Registrable Voter” and would repeal the current federal law that prevents voting age adults between 18 and 20 years of age from purchasing a handgun from federally licensed firearms dealers (FFL). |

With the repeal of Wyoming’s gun-free zones, it’s become one of only five states allowing people to carry concealed weapons in K-12 public schools without requiring special permission from school authorities.
Adults with concealed carry can take their firearms onto school grounds in Alabama, Oregon and Utah without needing prior clearance from licensed school administrators or school districts, according to information from Gun Owners of America (GOA).
New Hampshire prohibits only students from carrying concealed firearms in schools, with no mention of concealed carry permits, according to GOA. |
