Along with “assault weapon” bans, so-called “high capacity” magazine restrictions are a cornerstone of modern gun control. These terms rely on distorted and alarmist labels to describe standard features or equipment, and seek to portray these as unusual or unusually dangerous. “Large capacity magazines” or “high-capacity ammunition feeding devices” are not precise definitions, but usually rest on an arbitrary limit of able to hold more than ten cartridges. |

Which states allow concealed guns on college campuses? Considering the current political climate, the answer to that question seems to be constantly changing. Case in point, West Virginia will soon be added to the list of states that allow campus carry. In March 2024, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice signed Senate Bill 10, the Campus Self-Defense Act, which will take effect July 1.
And, according to the Campaign to Keep Guns Off Campus, varying campus carry bills are being considered in Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, North Dakota, and Tennessee. |

Antioch Church in Bend is hosting a Guns to Gardens event on Saturday. The congregation asking the community to turn in unwanted guns which will be turned into garden tools.
"We will be welcoming members of the community. Anyone who has a firearm in their home that they no longer want, we're providing a safe and legal way for folks to get rid of firearms," Pastor of Hospitality and Justice at Antioch Church Amy Kasari said.
It's a part of a national movement working to reduce gun violence by lowering the number of guns in homes and communities. |

A dozen years ago, federal firearms regulators approved a new product aimed at gun owners with physical disabilities, instantly creating a new market — and St. Cloud-based Maxim Defense Industries jumped in.
Over the next decade, Maxim built a line of pistol braces, which fastened to the forearm give shooters more stability. It also developed a line of heavy-duty pistols equipped with braces, which grew to 74% of the company's firearms sales.
Then in January 2023, the market evaporated overnight after the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) changed course and issued a rule reclassifying braced pistols as highly regulated short-barreled rifles. |

After four years of legal wrangling, Pennsylvanians 18 to 20 years old may now fully enjoy their Second Amendment-protected rights. Under Pennsylvania’s peculiar laws, those adults may carry a handgun openly in public without violating the law. But because Pennsylvania has been operating under a state of emergency since 2018, those under age 21 must have a concealed-carry license even though state law bans them from obtaining one.

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case that challenges current President Biden’s administration’s limits on ghost guns.
Essentially, ghost guns do not have a serial number and you can mail-order different parts of the gun, put them together, letting people assemble untraceable guns at home.
“A ghost gun is basically a firearm that is made without a serial number,” says Peter Forcelli, ATF Deputy Assistant Director and former NYPD homicide detective. |

Tennessee has joined more than two-thirds of states in allowing teachers to carry guns in public schools.
A bill that Gov. Bill Lee signed on Friday, April 26, makes Tennessee the 34th state to allow teachers to carry guns with administrator approval and some training.
It’s a growing trend among state legislatures as high-profile school shootings continue, and the law’s passage in Tennessee is notable: It was the site of 2023’s deadliest school shooting. In March 2023, a shooter killed three students and three teachers at the private Covenant School in Nashville. |

The Transportation Safety Administration has admitted it failed to detect bullets in the luggage of American tourists who were later arrested on the Turks and Caicos Islands for possession of ammunition.
On Tuesday, another U.S. citizen, who has family in New England, was arrested and detained for the same charge, after stopping on the islands during a cruise.
Tyler Wenrich, 31, of Virginia is the latest American tourist charged with possession of ammunition in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Brian Hagerich of Pennsylvania and Ryan Watson of Oklahoma have also been charged. |

But maybe there is another reason. According to a sizable portion of gun extremists in the country, these acts of violence are exactly what guns are for in America. For decades, the “insurrectionist theory of the Second Amendment” or the idea that the right to bear arms is rooted in the right to violently overthrow the government has become almost mainstream in the Republican Party. Representative Matt Gaetz has said the Second Amendment “is about maintaining within the citizenry the ability to maintain an armed rebellion against the government, if that becomes necessary.” |

They were on a mission to pass bills to strip away the Second Amendment rights of Virginians and punish the firearm industry. With much appreciation, Gov. Glenn Youngkin responded by vetoing all legislation that would have negatively impacted firearm and ammunition businesses.

Johnston initially granted the legal pause on April 8, and is continuing the ban because he is "concerned that the superior court’s decision would trigger a flood of LCMs (or large-capacity magazines) entering state circulation," he writes in his decision.
On Tuesday, Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a request with the state Supreme Court to bypass the appeals court and take the case directly. The request is currently pending.

Savannah police are cracking down on gun safety to remove firearms from the street.
The Savannah City Council passed a new ordinance requiring firearm owners to keep their guns locked in their cars and not visible. They also must report any firearm theft to the city within 24 hours of noticing it is missing.
"All we are asking is that if you're going to have a weapon for your protection, your family, or the protection of others is that when you don't have it in your hand or not on your person, you keep it secure," said Robert Gavin, Assistant Chief of Police. |

Colorado House Democrats on Friday gave preliminary approval to a pair of firearms bills from the state Senate, including legislation that would prohibit lawmakers from bringing guns into the Capitol.
Senate Bill 131, which seeks to ban guns in "sensitive spaces," initially prohibited firearms in 19 locations. The bill was amended by its sponsors to limit those locations to just a handful, including polling places, child care, schools, public college and university campuses, and local government offices and courthouses.

New Mexico Sen. Steven McCutcheon II (R-42) of Carlsbad said any additional gun bills would be fought heavily by the GOP. He said he doubted if Democrats would bring up any such legislation in anticipation of a fight with Republicans, instead expecting them to propose "panhandling" regulations.
Senate Bill 248, which would have added restrictions on public solicitors, was introduced during the session Sen. Leo Jaramillo (D-5) but was tabled and died before passing a committee vote.
“The Dems know if there are any gun bills, we will make it extremely painful,” McCutcheon said. “If there are gun bills, we’re gonna fight.” |
