Starting in 1976 I have been to Gunsite more times than I can remember. Besides meeting life-long friends, one of the best things is the networking always taking place. At a three-day revolver/lever-action rifle event last year, I took my Colt New Service and a Model 92 Winchester, both chambered in 45 Colt. Records show my revolver was made in 1907 — roughly half a century before I was born. Two years after this one was made, the U.S. Army adopted it as the Model 1909, two years before the iconic 1911 became the standard issue sidearm.

Local DNR wildlife biologist Pete Kailing and conservation officer Angie Greenway have been seeing a lot of turkeys and bears in the area lately. "The weather has been windy and lately it's been pretty slow," Kailing said. "The toms aren't responding well to the calls. With the tail end of the breeding season, it looks like most hens are on nests now, laying eggs. At the same time, some toms are still with hens wondering around. It's been tough hunting for the few people I've talked to."

Pocket pistols, or sometimes called backup guns (BUG), are all over the place and are generally really popular. I think there are a couple of reasons for this. They are usually pretty cheap, comparatively speaking, running around $350 or less for the most part. They are also really easy to carry. So easy to carry that people usually don’t have to change anything about how they dress or what they do to be able to carry it. We still rely on these guns to save our lives, though, so here are some things to look for next time you are on the hunt for a new blaster gat to stuff in your pocket.

The Michigan Capitol Commission voted Monday to form a special committee for studying its power to ban guns inside the Capitol building as lawyers offered differing legal opinions on the matter.

The move came after demonstrators openly carried firearms during an emotional April 30 protest at the Capitol and garnered national attention. The situation jettisoned the six-member panel in charge of the Capitol grounds into the spotlight.

A few hours before the Capitol Commission's 11 a.m. meeting, Attorney General Dana Nessel issued a formal legal opinion, stating that the Capitol Commission had the authority to unilaterally ban guns. But the commission's legal consultant, Amy Shaw, disagreed during the meeting.

Police in Cobb County, Ga., responded to a call at 9 p.m. on a Sunday night in late March after the report of a shooting at a home. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a group of would-be home invaders entered a local residence and were met by an armed 17-year-old resident.

The young resident fired at the invaders, striking two of them. One of the suspects, a 21-year-old, died at the scene. Another 21-year-old suspect was found with a gunshot wound to the leg. Police say the two 21-year-olds, along with a 16-year-old accomplice, attempted an armed robbery at the home when they were confronted by the armed resident.

J-frame revolvers, the smallest-frame wheelguns currently made by Smith & Wesson, are enormously popular--and have been for decades. It’s easy to understand why, as history is replete with examples of small things making huge impacts. Smith & Wesson J-frame revolvers are perfect examples of how something little can be a big deal.

NRA's effort to vindicate the Second Amendment rights of young adults in Florida in the case NRA v. Swearingen has passed an important milestone. On Friday May 1, the Chief U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Florida Mark E. Walker denied almost all of the state's motion to dismiss, allowing the case to move forward. Citing the relevant caselaw, Walker noted that NRA's complaint "contains 'enough facts to state a claim to relief that is plausible on its face."

The Noble County Commissioners expressed “strong support” for the right to bear arms. But that’s the extent of the action taken by the county, as commissioners stopped short of enacting any type of sanctuary status for firearms or directives to law enforcement not to enforce certain gun laws.

The clock is ticking towards the final decision on whether fire-arms will continued to be allowed inside the State capitol.

Both State Attorney General Dana Nessel and State Representative Lee Chatfield spoke on the matter.

“The vast majority of State capitol buildings all around this country prohibit guns and just like we do in courtrooms all around the states, we ought to be banning guns,” Nessel said.

“The right to keep and bare arms," Chatfield said. "People have a right to do that.”

The Michigan Capitol Commission is set to vote Monday on whether armed protests can continue to happen inside the building after a demonstration that both sides can agree got way out of hand.

The Michigan Capitol Commission has delayed the decision on whether to ban guns from the Capitol Building after legislators recently expressed fear over the actions of armed protesters.

Members of the Commission met during a Zoom call Monday and decided they needed more time to deliberate the topic. Many members said they would like to look deeper into the issue legally.

A committee will be formed to further investigate the issue before a vote is held, according to the Committee’s discussion.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said Friday that the state commission has the authority to prohibit firearms in the Capitol, if it chooses to do so.

Activists are celebrating Virginia Democratic governor Ralph Northam's decision to lift restrictions on indoor gun ranges in what they argue is a direct response to a recent court victory. Northam released an executive order on Friday that will allow indoor shooting ranges to operate starting May 15 so long as they follow strict guidelines. Ranges that reopen must operate at half capacity, require face coverings for employees, and adopt enhanced disinfecting for commonly used surfaces and rental equipment. Ranges that flout the rules could face misdemeanor charges.

There aren't a lot of things that were released in 1911 that are still going strong. Cars are different. Homes are built different. The state of electronics is vastly different. The greatest creation of John Moses Browning, the 1911 pistol, however is still as robust and desirable as ever. Here are just some of the new 1911-style handguns released in 2020. They range from the mild to the wild, from expensive customs to affordable concealed-carry options.
