Gun-related crime and fatalities are up in New Zealand, according to a detailed report from Radio New Zealand (RNZ), despite last year’s crackdown on gun ownership following the March 15 attacks on two mosques in Christchurch.

The report noted the violent crime rate went up in both 2018 (before the mosque attacks) and in 2019. RNZ quoted Auckland City councilor Alf Filipaina, who blamed gangs for much of the rise in gun-related crime.

All is quiet now at Rock Mountain Sporting Clays near Montrose and it was like this for some time after Governor Wolf ordered the closure of non-life-sustaining businesses on March 19 due to the coronavirus pandemic. "There was no day that went by that I got a phone call or an email, or text, or message asking, 'Are you going to open up again soon?'" said Mike Koneski, owner of Rock Mountain Sporting Clays.

The Magpul FMG-9 is a prototype gun that was produced by Magpul in 2008. The FMG-9 is essentially a submachine gun built around a Glock slide. So it’s got almost all the same characteristics as a Glock 17, in terms of grip size and length, barrel length, and magazine compatibility. However, it has a folding stock and a minimal foregrip to improve the performance of the firearm, overall.

Earlier this year, there were two occasions when this correspondent wound up in broadcast discussions with gun prohibitionists trying to pass themselves off as “gun safety advocates.” In one of those encounters, it seemed necessary to remind the listening audience there was one certified firearms instructor in the room and it wasn’t the other person who was representing a Seattle-based gun prohibition lobbying group.

First developed and used in England in the 1870s, the .410 bore remained a specialty cartridge and was not widely adopted for a long time. Some shooters felt it was novelty-only, but others found it to be great for hunting and competition shooting.

The .410 emerged in the U.S. around 1915, when the Harrington & Richardson company became the first to produce this shot shell for single-shot long guns. In 1933, Winchester introduced a three-inch shell for the .410, spurring other manufacturers of firearms and ammunition to get on board with this cartridge, ultimately growing its popularity.

It seems like not that many years ago, the PX4 was the red-headed stepchild of the Beretta lineup. There wasn’t much love. The PX4 had its share of problems. I recall early reports of guns not running too well for more than a couple hundred rounds at a time and having to be beaten with a mallet. They just didn’t seem to do much for people. Or at least, not people who are really serious about shooting guns.

In the final moments of 2019, Colt proudly announced they would add the archetypal Python back into their stable of revolvers — though you hardly needed a crystal ball to see such news coming after the reintroduction of the Cobra and King Cobra. As I expected, as soon as the new Python hit the market, the griping began. “It won’t be the same,” I heard some say. “It’s not going to be hand-fitted the way the old revolvers were,” others opined. “I doubt the trigger is going to be anywhere near the smoothness of the old ones,” many groused.

Skeet shooter Phillip Jungman should be having the time of his life, gearing up for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, but the games have been pushed back a year because of the coronavirus. Turns out that’s about the best thing that could have happened for the Caldwell native.

Jungman’s journey in becoming one of the world’s best had taken its toll.

“I’ve actually been having some issues with an unbalanced body being that I take all the shots from the right side of my body and the left part of my body performs a different action,” the 24-year-old Jungman said.

Unsuccessful 2016 Democrat presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton lumped in armed shutdown protesters with “domestic terrorism” following Michigan shutdown protests.

Clinton’s tweet came after Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) claimed she received death threats and promises of other acts of violence by alleged protest rally supporters.

Newsweek quoted Whitmer saying, “There are legislators who are wearing bulletproof vests to go to work. No one should be intimidated by someone who’s bringing in an assault rifle into their workplace.”

Two models in the Les Baer lineup—a full-size fighting M1911 that wears the Gunsite raven and the Commander-size Black Baer designed for everyday carry—prove that well-rendered versions of Old Slabsides still offer first-class options for today’s armed citizen. I first began carrying an M1911 in my law enforcement duties in about 1972. One of the things that led me to that decision was the writings of Col. Jeff Cooper. Cooper developed a shooting discipline that he called the “Modern Technique of the Pistol,” and the whole concept was wrapped around the M1911 pistol in .45 ACP.

To the long list of troubling developments amid the coronavirus crisis, add the Michigan state legislature’s decision to cancel its May 14 session. The lawmakers did so as far-right opponents of Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s lockdown policies, many armed with rifles, gathered for a possible repeat of their chaotic April 30 invasion of the state capitol.

Today, Gov. Baker signed COVID-19 Order No. 33 easing restrictions that were put into place to address the COVID-19 crisis. The new guidance allows shooting ranges to open today, May 18th. Shooting ranges will be required to follow the safety protocols outlined in the Governor’s Order. Gov. Baker’s original COVID-19 Order No. 21 closed shooting ranges and gun shops from March 31st to May 4th. That order was then amended to extend the restriction through May 18th. On May 7th, however, a federal judge ordered the Baker Administration to allow gun shops to re-open on Saturday, May 9th, but the judge did not address shooting ranges.

Brady Campaign’s Brady PAC announced it will sink funds into the effort, at a half a million dollarrs.

Three decades ago, it was the crime capital of the world. Now, New York City – spanning the five boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island – has become a mere shadow of its former self, as the coronavirus forces the population into lockdown. While overall crime rates initially fell in March, rebellion throughout May has steadily spiked, and concerns of a return to the heyday are emerging — but some bemoan that it is only the criminals who have handguns.

Malum Prohibitum: Guns Are Immoral Because They Say “They” Are

The problem with gun laws is that they are Malum Probibitum, which is defined at Cornell Law School as “An act which is immoral because it is illegal; not necessarily illegal because it is immoral.”

Malum Prohibitum contrasts with Malum in Se, defined as “An innately immoral act, regardless of whether it is forbidden by law.”
