Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a ban on so-called “military-grade assault weapons” in reaction to the murder rampage launched in Nova Scotia by a man who reportedly owned guns illegally, leaving rights activists hardly surprised.

Trudeau’s action underscores what the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said two weeks ago following the killing spree that left 22 people dead, including nine who died after the killer set fire to their homes.

A story tells of a Texas Ranger arriving at a function in full Ranger regalia – boots, starched khakis, starched white shirt, black necktie, a wide-brimmed Western hat and the traditional silver Texas Ranger badge. On his hip was a semi-automatic pistol. A lady walked up to the Ranger looking at his pistol, and asked in a mocking tone, “I see you are armed; are you expecting trouble?” His respectful reply was, “No ma’am; if I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my shotgun.”

In evidence law there is a concept known a statement against interest. Evidence is given further weight (an exemption to the rule against hearsay) if it consists of a statement made by a person that is against the person’s own self-interest. The logic behind the concept is that the person does not have an incentive to say something that is counter to their own self-interest unless it true.

Recently, Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and 18 of his pro-gun colleagues in the U.S. Senate called upon the U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve, and Small Business Administration (SBA) to protect law-abiding firearm businesses against political discrimination from banks and other financial institutions that administer the recently-enacted COVID-19 SBA loan programs.

Military Ballistics Industries, also known as MBI, has made a relatively recent entry into the world of ammunition manufacturing. Launched in 2009, the founder of MBI was an active machine gun shooter and sought a way to produce high-quality, affordable ammo to help subsidize his hobby. Fast-forward to today, and the brand has a good reputation for their high-quality new and remanufactured ammunition, and their product line includes ammunition for the most popular calibers on the market – including 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 Auto and 38 Special.

There’s no shortage of affordable handguns on the market. But there’s a lot to consider when looking for a gun that you might need to rely on for self-defense. You don’t want a handgun you can’t trust to go bang every time you pull the trigger, or one that will wear out after only a few trips to the range. And while smaller guns chambered for rounds like the .380 ACP are popular for concealed carry, serious defensive handguns start with a +P capable .38 Special revolver or a 9mm semi-automatic.

I spent all of $5—the price of a mouth call in 1987—to kill my first gobbler. In the intervening 33 years of turkey hunting, I’ve accumulated enough gear that my vest now weighs somewhere north of 800 pounds—or at least it feels that heavy at the end of the morning. Some of that gear actually helps me kill birds. Most of it just slows me down.

A masked man drove his Chevy Impala into an individual outside of an Apple Glen, Ind. Walmart early on a Saturday morning, according to witnesses at the scene. After hitting the man with his car, the driver got out, grabbed a baseball bat, and began beating the victim on the ground. A bystander armed with a gun confronted the masked man, who then ran from the scene, got back into his Impala and led officers on a high-speed chase. Police say that the armed citizen prevented an already-brutal assault from being even worse.

It’s not uncommon for people to mistake Cinco de Mayo as a day to celebrate Mexico’s independence, but that’s actually September 16, 1810. Instead, Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexico’s May 5, 1862, victory over French forces in Puebla City. In 1861, Mexico had just ended a civil war and was in a financially ruinous state. As a result, President Juarez suspended all payments of foreign debt. France, Great Britain, and Spain were owed significant sums of money and they were not pleased with this decision, so the three countries banded together to demand repayment.

It was 2006, well within striking distance of Smith & Wesson’s at-long-last decision to offer its own M1911. The M&P series was brand new, side extractors on M1911s were popular and I was at Smith’s Performance Center booth at the SHOT Show when I saw the flyer for a series of three different new models being introduced. Ranging from a base model to two more highly optioned pistols, the idea was to introduce a gun with all the basics covered — a turnkey pistol that could be slowly upgraded as the shooter’s needs grew, but didn’t need to be.

When he gobbled, the morning was as black as the inside of a crow. He was across the river from the boat ramp where my hunting partner Jill and I had just launched. We were hunting new ground, public land surrounding a picturesque river in Missouri that I’ll never name. We had been waiting for enough light to run downstream, but this tom’s early gobble changed our plan.

Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden is enjoying the benefit of armed protection while campaigning on a platform of disarming his fellow Americans. On March 17, 2020, Breitbart News reported Biden began receiving Secret Service protection. Not only does this mean he is surrounded by good guys 24 hours a day, but it also means he is protected with the very guns he is trying to take from average Americans.

The U.S. Supreme Court last week took another pass on deciding a case that could have helped to clarify proper Second Amendment analysis and bring defiant lower courts into line. An unsigned opinion issued on April 27 remanded the NRA-backed case of New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, Inc. v. City of New York (NYSRPA v. NYC) to the lower courts without addressing whether the regulations challenged in the case violated the right to keep and bear arms.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Nations and peoples who forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms. — Robert Heinlein
