The images have thrust Michigan into the national news. Several people crowded into the Michigan Capitol Building last Thursday to protest Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s continued lockdown on business. Many of the people were carrying assault rifles.

Michigan is one of only a few states that do not ban guns in the capitol. But that could change. People in both political parties have criticized the protesters last week.

The Michigan Capitol Commission has sought legal advice and could make a decision Monday on whether guns should be banned inside the Capitol, the vice chairman of the commission said Tuesday.

The longstanding practice of allowing open carry of firearms inside the Capitol came under national scrutiny Thursday when demonstrators, some carrying long guns, pressed together outside the entrance to the House chamber and shouted to be allowed inside.

Earlier, several hundred protesters gathered on the Capitol lawn, urging the Legislature not to extend Michigan's coronavirus state of emergency, which provides the legal basis for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's stay-at-home order and other emergency orders.

The Expansion Mono-Block, or EMB, line is Fiocchi’s premier low-penetration and rapid-expansion ammo, created exclusively for defense use. As of 2015, you’ll only find this in the 9mm Luger variety, making it a very specialized round comparable to Federal Premium’s Hydra-Shock personal defense rounds. The EMBs are part of the Extrema brand from Fiocchi, sharing some similarities with traditional hollow points and other expanding ammunition.

If your mom is anything like mine, she’s doing a little extra worrying these days. So you’d better not forget to do something thoughtful this Mother’s Day. If you’re short on cash or a gift won’t arrive in time with the current shipping delays (definitely not because you remembered too late), make her something. You could turn a friction-call striker, make a paracord turkey tote (try blaze orange—moms are usually sticklers for safety), or print out a bunch of her favorite family hunting and fishing photos and slip them in an album. If you’re not the crafting type, break out the backstraps you’ve been saving and cook her dinner, even if you have to sit on the other side of the porch.

Once again, the U.S. Supreme Court has essentially kicked the proverbial can down the road, not accepting while not rejecting any of ten potential Second Amendment cases that were part of the May 4 “Order List” of cases submitted for possible acceptance. Since the June 2010 decision (5-4) in McDonald v. City of Chicago, the high court has not issued a ruling on the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. And the question remains: Why not?

There are a number of ways to try to sneak an attack on our Second Amendment into law. That being said, the one big requirement for politicians – and legislation is to stay under the radar is for the politician to not really grandstand when talking nonsense about our Second Amendment rights.

The American gun-control movement has long insisted that public opinion is firmly on its side, and that its aims are thwarted not by their political unpopularity but by the obstinacy of a handful of over-powerful players. What happened in Virginia at the beginning of this year demonstrates once again that this claim of public support is flatly untrue.

You can see a large part of the reason why our Founding Fathers made the effort to put our Second Amendment’s 27 words into the U.S. Bill of Rights by looking north of our border. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has decided to strip his citizens of their ability to own and use popular semi-automatic firearms.

5 Tactics For Hunting Turkeys on Small Properties

Not all of us have the opportunity to turkey hunt vast public lands. In some places there just aren’t enough public acres for us all to utilize without setting up on top of one another. And certainly, many folks don’t own huge farms or have permission on multiple private properties to shoot a spring tom. In most cases, the more property you have access to, the better your chances for punching a turkey tag. I’ve been on tracts big and small, and can attest that killing a gobbler on a small farm—unless it’s the perfect farm and roosting a bunch of turkeys—is difficult. For the last few seasons, I’ve had just 40 or 80 acres to hunt.

It started with the record gun sales in March. But for one Wisconsin company, the surge didn’t end at the gun store counter. Massive increases in new gun buyers also launched unprecedented demand for more self-defense training and legal protection resources from the United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), based in West Bend. The USCCA now boasts more than 350,000 members after experiencing its second-highest growth rate in company history last April, surpassing even the boom in membership it saw in March.

April was another big month for FBI National Instant Check System (NICS) background checks, and even when adjusted by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, it looks like U.S. citizens are still buying plenty of firearms.

But a Washington Post-University of Maryland poll shows a majority of Americans (70 percent) are opposed to re-opening gun stores, which appear to be still operating over most of the country.
