If there were ever two handgun cartridges that could be classified as ubiquitously American, then it would be the 45 Long Colt and the 45 Automatic Colt Pistol (ACP). With a combined service life of over two centuries, both have served as the sidearm cartridge for the U.S. Army and are still used in various applications today in civilian circles. |

Attorneys representing the Second Amendment Foundation and its partners in a federal lawsuit challenging the prohibition of handgun sales to young adults have filed a reply to the federal government’s arguments supporting the ban. The case is known as Reese v. ATF. Joining SAF are the Louisiana Shooting Association, Firearms Policy Coalition and two private citizens, Emily Naquin and Caleb Reese, for whom the case is known. When one thinks of a gun for a manly man, the legendary M1911 .45 ACP autopistol readily comes to mind. After all, this was the pistol one had to master in order to earn the respect of “the father of modern combat handgunning,” the late great Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper, as well as professional firearms instructors from Cooper’s coaching tree such as the late great Chuck Taylor. It was the gun that enabled Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Alvin York to drop seven enemy soldiers with seven shots during the First World War.

The movement by some Second Amendment-supporting state legislatures to protect the financial privacy of those making purchases with credit cards at firearms retailers continues to gain momentum. In late April, Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) signed such legislation. The Montana 2nd Amendment Financial Privacy Act, S.B. 359, prohibits the use of a special Merchant Category Code (MCC) for credit-card purchases and prevents personal financial information from being shared by financial institutions.

Chicago, desperate to do something to try to diminish the violent crime that is ravaging the city, has turned to programs that are not your traditional law enforcement approach to try to help stem the tide. But if the recent Memorial Day weekend is any indication, not only are the programs not working, but one may be contributing to the problem, at least in one apparent incident. |

Today's en banc decision in Range v. Attorney General so concludes, in a majority opinion by Judge Hardiman, which got the votes of nine of the fifteen judges. The challenger in this case pleaded guilty in 1995 to making a false statement to obtain food stamps; because this was in theory punishable by up to five years in prison under Pennsylvania law, that made him a felon for federal gun law purposes (even though his actual sentence was just three years' probation plus "$2,458 in restitution, $288.29 in costs, and a $100 fine"). But the logic of the majority opinion suggests that this might apply to many felons, perhaps even including people convicted of violent felonies, at least as I read the court's rationale. |

Louisiana adults will have to wait at least another year to be able to carry concealed weapons without a permit or training after Republican Oil City Rep. Danny McCormick pulled his bill rather than have it amended Tuesday. Republican Sen. Gary Smith and Democratic Sen. Jay Luneau were proposing amendments during a Senate Revenue and Fiscal Committee hearing that would have added training requirements and mandatory presentation of valid state IDs to police if requested, which McCormick opposed.

Garland, FPC and FPC Action Foundation’s challenge to ATF’s pistol brace rule. A new Washington State ban on the sale of assault weapons, signed into law in April by Democratic Governor Jay Inslee, has survived a challenge by gun owners and dealers who claimed the law violated their constitutional rights under the Second Amendment.
From a courtroom in Tacoma on Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Robert Bryan, a Reagan appointee, denied the challengers' request for an injunction that would have blocked enforcement of the law pending further court challenges.

Busse is a charlatan.
