Recently, Governor Jeff Landry of Louisiana signed House Bill 407 into law. This legislation repeals residency restrictions and broadens access to the right to bear arms in the state. The bill was a legislative response to Mate v. Westcott. In early 2024, Louisiana enacted its version of constitutional carry, allowing law-abiding persons 18 years of age and not otherwise prohibited to carry a handgun in public without a permit.
