With Independence Day upon us, let's look at what it might mean to some people … a day off with pay, just a day off, family, friends, cookouts, reunions or just a day to lounge and watch the fireworks. As for me, I think of our Constitution, our founding fathers, our Bill of Rights, our military men and women who are performing their duties to protect our freedom.
“FREEDOM”. We say it often, exclaiming our rights by the Constitution and Bill of Rights, but is it really free? Daily, there are people who are ready, willing and able to chip away at our most basic freedoms as guaranteed by the First and Second Amendments to the Constitution, and it is these people who we must fight against. |

In my humble opinion, there may be no better kind of “dirty” than the powder residue one finds in the barrel of a revolver, around the front of the cylinder and the forcing cone, and on your fingers and hands after a day of shooting.
It’s a sweaty filth, compounded by residue on the empty cartridge cases just ejected from the chambers. It’s difficult to wash off, especially when using cold water pouring out of the cooler discharge spout and you have no soap. Wipe all you want to, the stuff is not coming off without maybe two scrubbings if you’re lucky. |

To kick things off properly, I started by brewing a fine cup of Earl Grey tea and pouring it directly into the toilet. Once properly hydrated with coffee, I tried to narrow down the Pew Pew Tactical team’s collective experiences into a few categories.
Try as I might, I couldn’t pick just three guns every American should own. Instead, I made several categories and chose a rifle, pistol, and shotgun for each. We’ll call these genres classic, tactical, hunting, editor’s picks, and budget guns. |

In a Quantus Insights poll ending July 2, 47% approved of Trump's overall job as president, while 49% disapproved and 4% reported not sure.
Ahead of the Fourth of July, the pollsters asked how people felt about American pride, with 77% responding they are proud to be American and 23% said not proud. Along the same vein, Americans were asked which American values they hold most dear; the response was freedom of speech, equality under the law, democracy/voting rights, the right to bear arms, and religious liberty, in that order. |

As expected, Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi have moved to roll back Biden-era gun policies that took a tougher line on gun dealers who falsified records, on gun purchases that avoided required background checks, and that regulated “ghost guns” to require serial numbers on formerly untraceable guns or gun parts.
Central to Trump’s deregulation of gun access is his evisceration of the federal agency charged with administering the nation’s gun laws, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. For decades, gun rights proponents have pilloried the ATF, calling it “scandal-ridden,” an out of control “rogue agency” that has persistently abused its power, and that had amassed “a tyrannical record of misconduct and abuse.” |

The judge made the unusual move to give attorneys on both sides another chance after closing arguments to present their cases.
The judge cited a 2007 California case, The People v. Edward Young, for his unusual decision.
"In that case, the appellate court expressly stated that the court in this case, it was a deadlock jury, could allow further argument as a means to break the deadlock," said Hon. James A. Kelley, Fresno County Superior Court.
Action News Legal Analyst Tony Capozzi said normally a different approach is taken.
"I've never seen it before, and I've been practicing for 50 years," said Tony Capozzi, Legal Analyst. |

President Trump’s One Big, Beautiful Bill passed the House today in a 218-214 vote that also advances the recently restored Section 70436, which drops the National Firearms Act tax on suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and AOWs. The bill retains the NFA’s overall control and regulation of such devices.
With the House’s work done, the OBBB moves to the president’s desk in time for his lauded July 4 signing deadline, but the battle doesn’t end there. Pro-Second Amendment advocates are already planning a follow-up lawsuit targeting the annihilation of the NFA altogether.
After all, what exactly is an NFA tax without an actual tax? |

Among Indigenous Naga tribes in India’s northeastern state of Nagaland, hunting traditions are transforming as cheap homemade guns make targeting commercially valuable large mammals easier, a recent study finds.
“Indigenous hunting preferences are rooted in cultural traditions but have evolved under the influence of economic pressures and environmental changes,” Satem Longchar, conservation ecologist and the study’s lead author, told Mongabay by phone. “The use of modern weapons like cheap homemade firearms has increased the efficiency of hunting, resulting in a decline in wildlife.” |

A San Diego military servicemember is back in uniform after a local jury found him not guilty of all charges in a high-profile murder case involving a fatal stabbing in East County. The verdict came after a hard-fought trial in El Cajon, where the defense successfully argued that their client acted in lawful self-defense.
The client, a U.S. Navy petty officer, had been in custody for over 18 months, facing a possible life sentence after being accused of killing the estranged husband of his romantic partner. The case involved an emotionally charged confrontation at a shared residence, and allegations of domestic abuse, with prosecutors pushing for a murder conviction. |

A Missouri man recently took matters into his own hands, relying on his firearm to save himself and a woman in his home when an irate husband began beating down the door.
According to a statement released on social media by Scott County Sheriff Derick Wheetley, on June 27, officers responded to a reported home invasion and shooting in a rural part of the county. Upon arrival, officers found 31-year-old John Fisher of East Prairie lying dead in front of the home.
Reports indicate that Fisher arrived at Austin Glastetter’s home at about 11:30 p.m. to find that his wife was also there. Deputies said Fisher used brass knuckles to damage the door and break out the glass in an attempt to enter the house. |

A community college student says she was discriminated against based on political views.
Katherine Parker, a student at Eastern Maine Community College, says an opinion paper on the Second Amendment she wrote for a class was met with pushback from a professor.
That professor wrote in an email to Parker, “You clearly don’t care about people as much as you care about guns.”
The email comes after Parker says she handed in a rough draft. The assignment was to choose an opinion piece from a local newspaper about an issue they were passionate about and write an opposition to it. |

Another Federal District Court has struck down California’s ban on issuing concealed gun carry permits to non-residents.
In a summary judgment issued on Tuesday, the Southern District Court of California determined that the state’s rule blocking out-of-state residents from obtaining the permits was unconstitutional. The Court ruled that the modern restriction could not stand under the Second Amendment test developed by the Supreme Court in 2022’s New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen.
“Nonresidents are simply afforded the same chance guaranteed to residents to exercise their Second Amendment rights,” Judge Cathy Ann Bencivengo wrote in Hoffman v. Bonta. |

In a sweeping victory for Second Amendment advocates, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit delivered a unanimous ruling on June 20, 2025, declaring California’s restrictive “one-gun-per-month” law unconstitutional. The decision in Nguyen v. Bonta affirms a lower court’s summary judgment and delivers a powerful rebuke to the state’s attempt to limit firearm purchases by law-abiding citizens. |

The legal battle over "ghost guns" is far from over, even after the Supreme Court upheld a Biden-era regulation requiring background checks and serial numbers for certain build-it-yourself firearm kits.
These kits, which allow buyers to assemble functioning guns from parts, have drawn scrutiny from law enforcement. Because the kits were initially sold without serial numbers or background checks, authorities often couldn't trace the weapons — earning them the moniker "ghost guns." |

As a mother, grandmother, small business owner and firearms instructor, I care deeply about the safety of our families and the future of our communities. That’s why I strongly support Gov. Joe Lombardo’s decision to veto Assembly Bill 245.
This bill would have banned responsible young adults between the ages of 18 and 20 from owning certain rifles and shotguns — tools often used for sport shooting, hunting and self-defense. These are adults who can vote, serve in the military, sign legal contracts, and be held fully accountable under the law. Stripping them of a constitutional right simply because of their age doesn’t make us safer — it sets a dangerous precedent. |
