The SHOT Show is the world’s largest gun show, and it’s going to be in Las Vegas for the foreseeable future, so if that combo is at all interesting to you, I suggest you try to make it someday. It’s not open to the public, so if you’re not in the industry you might have to finagle a badge from a friend of a friend, but it’s a great time. For those of us in the industry, not only is it perhaps the best place to get eyes and hands on cool new products, but every year there are surprises that you just don’t get anywhere other than a huge convention in Las Vegas filled with guns.

How can you push for gun safety reform in Tennessee? SaferTN.org was developed during the days after the Covenant School shooting in Nashville March 27, 2023 as a pro-second amendment, bi-partisan non-profit gun safety organization. Safer TN board member Todd Cruse and Host Ben Hall discuss how Safer TN helps get gun safety legislation through capitol hill. Cruse shares concerning statistics about firearm violence in Tennessee. Tennessee leads the nation in firearms stolen from vehicles and firearms are the #1 cause of death of youth 1-17.

Most people are aware that the maternal instinct in women is so strong that many will do whatever it takes to protect their children from harm. Unfortunately for a convicted child molester in Indiana, he had to learn that lesson the hard way.

According to reports at wlfa.com and wthr.com, the man, Bruce Pierce, tried to rape a 12-year-old girl at an Indianapolis hotel in late May. But before he could rip more than her tank top and underwear, the girl’s mother shot Pierce several times, sending him to the hospital with multiple bullet wounds and a sure lesson learned.

A District Court judge ruled on Tuesday that California should allow non-residents to apply for concealed carry weapons (CCWs) licenses.

Cathy Ann Bencivengo, a U.S. District Court judge for the Southern District of California, issued an order which granted summary judgment after finding the state’s “provisions barring nonresidents from applying for CCW licenses violate the Constitution.” The plaintiffs in the case, who are not California residents, complained that they have been prohibited from carrying a firearm for self-defense when they visit the state, according to Bencivengo’s order.

The group said its platform is the Oklahoma Standard, meaning it supports a strong military, law enforcement, unions, and teachers.

"We believe that no child should be left behind in education, healthcare, nutrition, or opportunities. We revere and honor tribal governance, and believe in their right to govern their citizens and their territories, because first nations are sovereign nations," the group wrote in a press release.

It also believes in being fiscally conservative, having a balanced state budget, the right to bear arms, and the rule of law.

What do we celebrate on this 249th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence? I tried to answer that in my most recent book, No Second Amendment, No First. Here’s a short, slightly edited excerpt that sums things up.

All the various strands in Christian theory and Anglo-American practice came together and formed something new in colonial America: a political regime based on ordered liberty.

Although the American colonies had been founded with the British crown’s permission, for a century or more they essentially governed themselves. In that time, colonists shouldered the main burden of self-defense (and often of conquest) against native Americans as well as rival European settlers.

But that's not all. The Wyoming Republican also cited language eliminating a transfer tax on some guns as well as gun suppressors (aka silencers).

Lummis shared the credit for the firearms language with Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo, R-Idaho. She touts the language for “lifting silencer and short-barrel rifle taxes.”

She said it removes “the Depression-era $200 tax on suppressors, as well as short-barreled rifles and shotguns.”

This provision was one of many challenged on parliamentary grounds by Senate Democrats. But sure enough, there it is on Page 454 of the bill Trump signed.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is beginning the reform work directed by President Donald Trump’s Executive Order on Protecting Second Amendment Rights. Those reforms, reportedly, could include changes in firearm regulations as well as budget adjustments and achieving manpower efficiencies.

That’s welcome news and a delivering on reform efforts announced earlier this year by the Trump administration. NSSF has called for ATF reforms for years, especially after the Biden administration wielded the ATF as a bludgeon against the firearm industry for political reasons.

Sig Sauer has reached an annual milestone by producing 100 million rounds of 6.8-millimeter ammunition at its factory in Jacksonville, Arkansas. This achievement bodes well for the American small arms contractor’s efforts to double its shell output over the next few years. It also reflects the company’s dedication to its role as a prime industry collaborator under the US Army’s ongoing Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program, which provides a common munition with enhanced “lethality and probability” for troops.

Flavor Flav has made a public plea for the government to ban access to guns across America.

The Public Enemy legend penned an op-ed for Newsweek and described how he feels guns have made the country less safe.

He wrote: “I fear for my kids when I drop them off at school. Our schools aren’t safe and our kids aren’t safe. This is because gun protection laws are weak. Guns are falling into the hands of the wrong people. I would know. I went to jail because of guns. I ended up on Rikers Island. So I am speaking from first-hand experience.”

Tiffany Gomas might be seeing ghosts, but the rest of us are seeing fireworks in the aftermath of the former "crazy plane lady" readying herself for the 4th of July.

And to be clear, I’m not talking bottle rockets and bang snaps, Tiff – theoretically - brought the expensive stuff: fountains, cakes, mortars.

Like any proud patriot celebrating the U-S-of-A’s independence, Gomas’ party planning includes the essentials (assuming you’re stacked like Tiffany Gomas, can handle a firearm, and enjoy tapping the Rockies): multiple guns, a Coors Light hat, and a red, white and blue star-filled bikini. About the only thing she’s missing is Kid Rock. But the day is young.

All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. — Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)
