After New Orleans city officials were unsuccessful in their attempts to get state lawmakers to designate vast swathes of their city’s popular tourist area as a gun-free zone before Louisiana’s new permitless carry law went live July 4, they came up with their own solution, which is probably unconstitutional, definitely whacky and certain to be contested in court.

A group pushing the idea of “100 Days of Peace” slowed traffic on Interstate 5 in Seattle July 5, claiming the idea was to raise awareness, but it hasn’t seemed to accomplish much other than irritate the region’s already-frustrated motorists.

The 300 AAC Blackout and 308 Winchester are both 30-caliber rifle cartridges that shoot a .308” diameter bullet. However, this is where the similarities end as both cartridges have a different intended purpose.

The .44 Smith & Wesson Special is well over a century old. Although insanely popular in the early 20th century, the Special almost went the way of the dinosaur after the introduction of its faster, harder-hitting, and more popular younger brother, the .44 Remington Magnum. The .44 Spl has been mostly kept alive by custom handloaders and cowboy action shooters.

A homeowner in Los Angeles opened fire on numerous alleged intruders Monday around 3 p.m., critically wounding one.

NBC Los Angeles noted, “Investigators believe three masked men tried to break into the home on Addison Street near Colfax Avenue, but they were stopped by the property owner.”

Upon learning that one of the lawsuits (Harrel v. Raoul) filed to challenge Illinois’ ban on the possession of what it calls “assault weapons” was denied by the Supreme Court last week, Lawrence Keane, senior vice president of the Firearm Industry Trade Association (NSSF — formerly the National Shooting Sports Foundation), expressed his disappointment.

A Johnson City church gained quite a bit of attention after announcing it was giving away an AR-15 to celebrate Independence Day. Todd Holmes, pastor of The River of Tri-Cities Church, said the giveaway was in honor of the Constitution and the Second Amendment.
