I jammed my palm right up against the grip, wrapped fingers around my firing hand, extended both arms, and squinted at the target through my glasses. With all systems in place, there was nothing left to do but pull the trigger. Bam! At a velocity of about 800 mph, the bullet shot down the barrel of the gun in my hand and seemed to instantaneously punch through the target. I checked my handiwork. A tiny hole had appeared just a couple inches south of the white circle in the middle. Not bad for my first time ever firing a pistol. I looked at my instructor. “Can I go again?” |

The Warren Police Department has released additional information about two separate fatal shootings that occurred early Aug. 9, with prosecutors declining to authorize charges in both cases after determining the shootings were justified.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office determined on Wednesday (Aug. 12) that the two shootings involved defense of self or others.
Both people who fired the shots have been released from police custody. |

A Texas-based federal judge reined in enforcement of the National Firearms Act (NFA) last week, siding with the State of Texas and a group of firearm companies against the federal government.
In an August 5 order, Judge James Wesley Hendrix of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas enjoined the federal government from enforcing certain NFA provisions against the plaintiffs, which include 15 states as well as a coalition of businesses and advocacy groups.
Hendrix stopped short of a nationwide injunction, and his order only applies to certain provisions of the law. However, the ruling could eventually undermine enforcement of the NFA altogether, one Texas lawmaker speculated. |

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) has filed a petition for writ of certiorari with the U.S. Supreme Court in Defense Distributed v. Attorney General of New Jersey, a case challenging the state’s prohibition on publishing computer files which can be used for 3D printing firearms.
Originally filed in 2018, the case challenges New Jersey statute which prohibits the publication of computer files containing digital firearms information on the grounds it violates the First Amendment. Other courts have ruled that such computer code is indeed covered under the First Amendment, but the Third Circuit disagreed, creating a circuit split. |

Clyde authored the legislation that eliminated the NFA tax on suppressors, short barrels, and AOWs in last year's One Big Beautiful Bill Act, H.R. 1. On Tuesday, he led a coalition of nearly 50 House and Senate Republicans to call on Attorney General Todd Blanche, urging DOJ to decline any appeal of Hendrix's ruling in the case of Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF (consolidated with Jensen v. ATF).
And the first Form 4-less transfers are already being explored in Texas. |

Second Amendment advocates are on a roll. After decades of attacks on the right to keep and bear arms, and the passage of innumerable federal, state, county, and municipal lawfare against that right, momentum to undo past damage and establish protections against infringements has been building at an accelerated pace.
The tide started turning in 2008, when the Supreme Court ruled in District of Columbia v. Heller that there is an individual right to possess arms, followed in 2010 by McDonald v. City of Chicago, where the High Court ruled the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments. |

Thailand’s police have clarified that homeowners are legally entitled to defend themselves against unlawful intruders, but shooting someone who enters a house is not automatically considered lawful self-defense. Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, explained the legal principles following public debate over cases in which homeowners have used firearms against intruders, sometimes resulting in death. He said police investigations do not automatically mean that a homeowner who used a weapon is considered guilty. Officers must determine the circumstances and collect evidence before investigators submit their findings to prosecutors.

Oregon voters’ narrow passage of some of the nation’s strictest gun control restrictions in 2022 prompted thousands of new gun purchases in the state despite the restrictions never going into effect, according to a recent study.
Researchers at Oregon State University, the University of Oregon and the Massachusetts-based National Bureau of Economic Research made their findings in a late July study published in the Journal of Public Economics. Measure 114, a 2022 voter-approved initiative, bans high-capacity magazines and requires completed background checks, permits and firearm safety training before purchasing guns. |

The Second Amendment Foundation submitted a series of formal comment letters to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on Tuesday, addressing several proposed federal gun regulations.
The Bellevue-based advocacy group said its feedback aims to modernize existing federal rules while protecting gun-owner privacy, constitutional rights, and interstate travel with firearms.
The submission follows an announcement in late April, where Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and ATF Director Robert Cekada unveiled 34 proposed and final rules. Among those measures were final rules rescinding previous regulations on “stabilizing braces” and individuals deemed “engaged in the business” of selling firearms. |

Republican Georgia Rep. Andrew Clyde posted on X Wednesday that the Trump administration confirmed it would not appeal a ruling by United States District Judge James Wesley Hendrix of the Northern District of Texas, a Trump appointee, granting a motion for summary judgement from attorneys representing the Silencer Shop Foundation in a 66-page opinion issued August 5. Hendrix ruled that since taxes on suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns and other items had been reduced to $0 by legislation signed by President Donald Trump in July 2025, the registration and paperwork imposed by the NFA exceeded Congress’ authority under the taxation power. |

On the heels of its big victory in the recent court ruling that the National Firearms Act registration requirement is unconstitutional, gun-rights organization Gun Owners of America is encouraging its members and others to call the White House and urge President Donald Trump to make sure the U.S. Department of Justice doesn’t appeal the ruling.
As we recently reported, on August 5, a federal judge ruled that the NFA’s registration is unconstitutional. GOA filed the lawsuit after the passage last year of the One Big Beautiful Bill, which removed the tax from suppressors and other NFA items. |

Three financial services companies declared Monday in letters sent to Republican West Virginia Attorney General J.B. McCuskey that they did not discriminate against companies in the firearms industry, averting potential lawsuits from the state.
McCuskey announced an investigation into whether the companies had wrongfully denied financial services to Kent Cartridge Company in a July 30 release. First Internet Bank of Indiana, Ramp.com and Bill.com all issued responses confirming they did not and would not deny services to a company in the firearms industry by August 7, according to a Monday release from McCuskey’s office. |

The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit issued its ruling in Wolford v. Lopez on August 10, 2026, after the Supreme Court overturned its original decision, forcing the California-based court to deliver a rare Second Amendment victory.

President Donald Trump took the opportunity of a statement for National Shooting Sports Month to remind Americans that rights come from God, not the government, and that the Second Amendment is one of the most foundational and fundamental in the Bill of Rights.
In fact, it seems the Founding Fathers had the perspective that the right to keep and bear arms was the right upon which all others depended, since they could never have launched a revolution or succeeded in gaining and keeping our independence without firearms. In Iran right now, freedom fighters are trying to organize another uprising, but multiple protesters told American media they simply don’t have adequate weaponry as of yet. |
