The folks who took down the Walmart stabbing suspect are getting a whole lotta love in Northern Michigan, especially the good Samaritan with the gun.

Iron Pig Smokehouse in Gaylord is offering free BBQ meals for life to the gunman who confronted the knife-wielding man in the Walmart parking lot, along with the other civilians who cornered the suspect that day.

Deadstream Deli announced on Facebook that it would "love to offer" the gunman "a free meal on the house whenever it's convenient to take the scenic drive to Honor! Thank you for your bravery and quick actions in protecting the public!"

Roy's General Store in Traverse City is offering free fountain pop and coffee all week to CPL holders "as a thank-you for being prepared"

Police say the man who shot and killed a 59-year-old who had killed his estranged wife and their son was acting in self-defense.

The Thursday, July 31, announcement marks the end of a saga that began at a Bound Line Road home in Wolcott on March 27, when officers received a 911 call about a shooting.

Officers arrived to find the bodies of Michelle Cote, 55, of Colchester; her estranged husband, David Cote, 59, of Wolcott; and their son, David Cote Jr., 34, also of Colchester.

The only survivor was Richard King, a friend of David Jr.

Authorities said the three suspects backed a stolen pickup truck to the store around 5 a.m. and used a sledgehammer to smash a window before trying to pull the ATM from its base with a guy wire. A customer inside the store reportedly opened fire, hitting one of the would-be thieves.

“It’s crazy. I mean, people are just nuts anymore. You don’t know what to expect,” Murfreesboro resident Karen Laakkonen said.

Police said they interviewed the armed civilian and released him. Investigators will now work to determine if the deadly shooting was justified.

Lifelong hunter J.R. Young of San Jose rushed to an online ammunition dealer last week after a federal court decision overturned a California gun law that required background checks in person at every point of sale.

“Is this freedom week?” he said. “I was just curious to see if this striking down of the law is allowing companies to ship into the state again.

“The way we live in society now — when we want to buy something, we don’t want to go and take a trip to the store.”

Many bullet junkies, hunters and gun enthusiasts like Young quietly celebrated the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that may or may not ultimately put a dent in the state’s strict policies for purchasing ammunition.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals struck down California’s first-in-the-nation law requiring background checks for ammunition purchases, another blow to the state’s gun control framework that has been pared down, case by case, since the U.S. Supreme Court dramatically expanded gun rights in a monumental 2022 decision.

The California law that forced ammunition purchasers to pass a background check was passed by voters in 2016. Gov. Gavin Newsom, at the time the state’s lieutenant governor, championed the initiative and was its primary advocate.

SCOTUS Might Take Up Case Concerning Marijuana Use And Firearms Ownership

The issue of marijuana use and gun ownership is a contentious one, especially with many states now legalizing the use of marijuana for medical and even recreational purposes. Under federal law, use of marijuana or other illegal substances automatically revokes a citizen’s right to keep and bear arms—a fact that many in the gun-rights community consider flat wrong.

Something needs to be done to determine the law’s constitutionality once and for all. And according to media reports, it looks like that something might just be a case currently before the Supreme Court of the United States.

This time, the gun death came to New York.

The same ridiculous fiction is being sold to a gullible public that was trotted out after Sandy Hook, Las Vegas, Parkland, Buffalo and all the others: Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. What’s more pathetic than those who keep selling that myth is the ease with which so many Americans buy it.

Four New Yorkers, Didarul Islam, Wesley LePatner, Aland Etienne and Julia Hyman, went to work in Midtown on a broiling hot Monday and were murdered. Mental illness didn’t kill these four. CTE didn’t kill these four. A supposed aggrievement in a suicide note didn’t kill these four. A semiautomatic assault rifle, identified as either an AR-15 or an M4, ...

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled California’s background check requirement for ammunition purchases unconstitutional, affirming a district court’s permanent injunction. Gov. Gavin Newsom criticized the ruling as a setback to progress in public safety. The court argued that the law infringed on Californians’ Second Amendment rights. Circuit Judge Sandra S. Ikuta wrote the majority opinion ruling the system restricts Californians’ Second Amendment rights.

Those results contrast with Wednesday’s dismissal of a complaint filed against the city in July 2024. That lawsuit argued an ordinance signed by Mayor Cherelle Parker in June violated gun owner’s right to bear arms under the Pennsylvania Constitution.

Common Pleas Court Judge Caroline Turner dismissed the complaint, filed by residents Vern Lei and Ross Gilson, without explanation.

The city did not respond to requests for comment.

The National Rifle Association (NRA), American Suppressor Association (ASA), Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), Prime Protection STL Tactical Boutique, and two members of the organizations filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA). The case, Brown v. ATF, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

Until President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB), the NFA established a $200 tax and tax-enforcement registration regime on certain classes of firearms, including suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and NFA-defined “any other weapons.”

California gun owners are eager to get their hands on ammunition after a federal appeals court struck down a state law requiring background checks for ammunition purchases, reports CalMatters’ Joe Garcia.

Last week the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals dealt a blow to gun control advocates and California’s own policy framework when it ruled that the state’s first-in-the-nation law “meaningfully constrains California residents’ right to keep and bear arms.”

Police in Winston-Salem have closed their investigation into the death of a 58-year-old man, ruling it a justified act of self-defense.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on May 31, when officers responded to a 911 call requesting EMS assistance at an apartment on Timlic Avenue. Upon arrival, first responders found Fernando Rodriguez Mendoza dead at the scene. After working with the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, authorities confirmed that Mendoza’s death was the result of a homicide.

However, based on interviews, forensic evidence, and cooperation from all parties involved, the Winston-Salem Police Department concluded that the use of deadly force was legally justified.

In light of growing reports involving unintentional discharges of the SIG SAUER P320, many self-defense professionals and firearm safety experts now advise against carrying this particular model until the issue is fully addressed. While SIG SAUER remains a reputable manufacturer, safety must come first when choosing an everyday carry firearm.

Growing concerns around the SIG SAUER P320 continue to make waves in the firearm and self-defense community. Multiple recent incidents involving alleged unintentional discharges, with some resulting in serious injury, have led many experts, including us, to recommend against carrying the P320 platform as your everyday carry (EDC) firearm, at least for the time being.

The Second Amendment Foundation and its partners have petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court for review in Brown v. ATF, SAF’s challenge to the federal ban that prevents adults aged 18 to 20 from purchasing handguns from licensed dealers.

Second Amendment Foundation’s Petition for Certiorari highlights the circuit split that has emerged on the issue, with the Fifth Circuit striking down the law earlier this year in SAF’s Reese v. ATF case, while the Fourth Circuit upheld it in Brown. Joining SAF in the case are the West Virginia Citizens Defense League and a private citizen, Alec La Neve.

Customers are coming in and asking how to get their concealed pistol license. Classes that used to take weeks to fill up are filling up in a matter of hours.

"I would say probably a surge of 25 people or more just in the last 72 hours since the incident occurred," TCH Gear Owner Gary Jurkovich said.

If there’s a big loser in Second Amendment-related court proceedings over the past few months, it has to be California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

In fact, after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on July 24 that the state’s ammunition background check law violated the Second Amendment and affirmed a district court’s order granting a permanent injunction against enforcement of the law, Newsom shared some harsh words with the media.

“Strong gun laws save lives—and today’s decision is a slap in the face to the progress California has made in recent years to keep its communities safer from gun violence,” Newsom said in a released statement.

A violent attack in Traverse City, Michigan, would not have been prevented by any of the myriad proposals for more intrusive “gun control” — the attack, in which 11 people were viciously stabbed, was carried out with a folding knife.

Instead the first gun at the scene of the attack, which authorities are seeking to define as terrorism, was carried by a law-abiding citizen, who helped defuse the situation and coax the alleged perpetrator into surrendering.

The citizen, a retired Marine bearing arms in concordance with the Second Amendment rights we frequently defend in our editorials, acknowledged in an interview with the Detroit Free Press that the Second Amendment is as much a responsibility as a right.
