A Rube Goldberg machine is intentionally designed to perform a simple task as a result of an overly complicated set of chain reactions. It was named after American cartoonist Rube Goldberg who was popular from 1914 until his death in 1970. Goldberg drew cartoons depicting gadgets performing simple tasks in indirect and convoluted ways. Stoked by 1980s cult classics like Peewee's Big Adventure and The Goonies, the public's interest in making these devices more tangible exploded. In 1987, Purdue University in Indiana started an annual National Rube Goldberg machine contest. More recently, you can find dozens of videos on the internet of incredibly complex machines.

The 8x57 JR, based on the 8x57 J cartridge, is the same as the original 8mm Mauser cartridge except for having a rimmed case. This cartridge is most often found as the third projectile in break-action drilling rifles, topped with two other barrels for 12 or 16 gauge shotshells. The 8mm Mauser JR variant has been produced since the early 1900s, and is becoming less and less common every day – especially for those who shoot outside of Europe. Very few manufacturers continue to produce firearms chambered for this cartridge, with Blaser and Anschuetz being two of them.

A state commission will resume discussions over whether to ban or restrict firearms in the Michigan Capitol building this week, months after Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and other prominent elected officials raised safety concerns with the current policy.

The Michigan State Capitol Commission will be considering a report compiled by John Truscott, the commission’s co-chair, and Commissioner William Kandler on what implementing a firearms ban at the Capitol would entail at its next meeting, scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday.

How often do manufacturers make fanciful claims about the performance of their weapon-mounted and tactical lights? Portable Lights American Trade Organization (PLATO) Executive Director Andy Skoogman admits, “It’s not an easy thing to quantify.” He said most major brands sold in North America through reputable dealers provide accurate information, “However, in raw numerical terms, when you include E-commerce and some retailers, it’s also accurate to say that there are many products offered for sale to the consumer that are way off the mark.”

A Harvard University professor claimed that states use “Stand Your Ground” as a way in which the state might “outsource its violence to individual citizens,” adding that they are “disproportionately white or white-passing, disproportionately male-identified, and usually a person with some kind of property,” and that the United States has been based on “different mythologies of neutrality.”

While the establishment media didn’t pick up on it, President Donald Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity during a telephone interview Wednesday evening that if it had not been for him being in the White House, the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms might no longer exist as it was originally intended.

In his typical, slightly rambling manner of speaking, the president was explaining how he has reshaped the federal courts and appointed two constitutional justices to the U.S. Supreme Court when he suddenly zeroed in on the Second Amendment.

Autumn hunting seasons are fast approaching and if early numbers on hunting license sales are any indication, the coronavirus pandemic isn’t keeping America’s outdoorsmen and women from planning to visit their camps, stands, and fields. Beginning in March and April earlier this year, COVID-19 spread across America and has led to a surge in firearm sales that hasn’t been seen before. According to retailer survey data, more than 5 million of the more than 13 million gun buyers in 2020 were first-timers.

The ban will also apply at special events that require a county permit. In April 2020, Virginia passed a law allowing local governments to set their own rules about firearms in public. As part of its General Assembly legislative package, the county had asked for that authority.

Mississippi is one state that doesn’t come up on the radar of Second Amendment supporters very often. However, that may be worth re-thinking this year. With the 2020 elections, though, taking a Senate seat for granted could result in a nasty surprise on election night. Mississippi is one of the states that has respected our Second Amendment rights over the years – as evidenced by how simple the summary of that state’s laws at the NRA-ILA’s web site is. The state routinely elects supporters of our right to keep and bear arms to statewide office. But sometimes, some races got close the couple of years.
