Nickel-plated lead shot is different from your typical lead shot in that the coating allows the shot to leave your barrel a bit smoother, gives more penetration, and can lead to easier kills when hunting pheasants and waterfowl. While this shot is more expensive than your average lead, there are definitely some benefits that make it worth the price.

A robber who helped steal at least 76 guns from stores in Westland and Dearborn Heights went over to his friend’s house afterward to show him the weapons, and that friend turned him and his brother in for a $20,000 reward, police said.

The first incident in a string of robberies took place at 4:31 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Freedom Holster Gun Shop on South Wayne Road in Westland.

A stolen Kia SUV smashed through the front of the gun shop, and seven people rushed inside.

The robbers grabbed several firearms before fleeing through the front and running east toward Hazelwood Street. They were wearing face masks, gloves, and long-sleeved shirts. Some were carrying a bag.

Authorities estimate about 50 guns were stolen.

Out of the collected guns, handguns have the biggest payout.

At the time of America’s declaration of war after Pearl Harbor, there were two types of submachine guns in Uncle Sam’s arsenal; the Thompson and the Reising. Introduced in 1921, the Thompson was arguably the best-known submachine gun in the world. Initially manufactured by Colt in the early 1920s, the Model 1921 Thompson was not looked upon with much favor by the U.S. military until the eve of the Second World War.

It was 1886 when the Sempert & Krieghoff rifle factory was established in Suhl, Germany, with Ludwig Krieghoff at the helm. The fine gunmaking tradition must have been genetic, because in 1916 his son, Heinrich, established another firearm manufacturing firm in the same city. It operated under the Heinrich Krieghoff label.

This week, we’re taking a closer look at the EOTech EFLX miniature reflex sight. Sharing a window with the same aspect ratio as the company's famed HWS, the EFLX is small and light enough to be mounted on handguns, but has found favor among our editorial staff atop turkey guns. The sight boasts nine brightness settings—eight for daylight and one that is night-vision compatible—and utilizes a Leupold DeltaPoint Pro footprint for mounting.

Since I started working for the Division of Wildlife in 1983, Ohio’s deer hunting seasons have changed dramatically. I have had quite a few Ruger firearms over the years, and for the most part my experience with the company has been a good one. My first real rifle was a Ruger, and both family and friends have also used a bunch of different Ruger models over the years. I have always thought Ruger produced a good firearm for the price. So, today, we will be taking my first look at the Ruger American line of rifles. I’m curious to see if they match up to my decades of experience with Ruger.

The new SIG Sauer MCX Spear LT series combines the best of the old Gen 1 MCX with the MCX Virtus and adds more caliber options. Back from the 1st generation of MCX rifles is the compatibility with standard AR trigger packs-- opening a world of modularity that was lost with the Virtus-- while also slimming the rifle down. Available in 5.56 NATO, .300 Blackout and 7.62x39-- new for the platform and a caliber unusual altogether for SIG, the Spear LT series also comes standard with SIG's SLX QD muzzle device/suppressor mount pre-installed while a redesigned handguard and other tweaks drop almost a pound in weight when compared to the Virtus.
