“Texans have a right to lawfully carry and the City of Dallas has no authority to contract their rights away to a private entity,” Paxton said in a Friday press release. “This case is not over. I will continue to fight this on the merits to uphold Texans’ ability to defend themselves, which is protected by State law. While Texas clearly prohibits this type of gun ban, I will be working with the Legislature this session to protect law-abiding citizens’ Second Amendment rights on public property.”

On the campaign trail, Harris is branding herself as a pro-Second Amendment gun owner.

President Joe Biden on Thursday announced another executive order on gun control, this time to regarding “red flag laws.” During his remarks, we saw a president who was truly not all there as he ranted and raved against the Second Amendment, telling lies not only about gun control, but his political opponents as well.

Earlier this month, the AP posted a headline claiming that Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) referred to school shootings as "fact of life." It was so egregious the outlet was forced to delete it, but the narrative persisted. Biden repeated it on Thursday, three weeks later, though he slurred his way through and incorrectly referred to Vance as "Secretary Vance."

Following its victory ending California’s “1-in-30” firearm purchase ban, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) announced that it has filed a new federal lawsuit to strike down New Jersey’s version of the law. The complaint in Struck v. Platkin can be viewed at firearmspolicy.org/struck.

“This case presents a simple question of law,” states the lawsuit. “The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees ‘the right of the people to keep and bear Arms’—plural—‘which shall not be infringed.’”

Existing federal law requires FFLs that have sold 25 or more guns over the course of a single year that are subsequently traced to violent crimes within the previous three years to submit a report to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) providing additional information on their sales practices under the Bureau’s Demand 2 program. The Clean Hands Firearm Procurement Act would require ATF to identify the small number of FFLs that are consistently and dramatically overrepresented in criminal activity and render them ineligible for federal contracts.

White House officials said the executive order will target machine gun conversion devices that turn regular firearms into machine guns that fire fully automatic, plus 3D-printed guns that do not have the typical serial numbers.

“They’re cheap, small and easy to make,” said Stef Feldman, director for the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. “Some 3D printed firearms can be made to be undetectable by magnetometers used to secure airports, courthouses and event spaces.”

Glock pistols are a popular choice for people committing gun crimes, in part because they can be easily converted into fully automatic weapons using a small device, according to a new report based on data from nearly three dozen U.S. cities.

Often called Glock switches or auto sears, the devices have received heightened attention in recent years because they're increasingly turning up at crime scenes. They effectively turn semiautomatic weapons, which fire one bullet per trigger pull, into machine guns that can spray continuous gunfire.

The Office of the Washington State Auditor is looking into the loss of 23 firearms after Seattle Police reported them missing in August, Seattle Police confirmed on Thursday. The guns haven’t been accounted for since 2017.

This discovery, made after an internal accounting of missing weapons, comes amid a longtime push by city leadership to address gun violence and rid Seattle streets of stolen firearms. Former Mayor Jenny Durkan passed local legislation in 2018 requiring that residents lock up their guns to keep them out of the hands of children and criminals.

It also highlights the department’s struggle in keeping their weapons secure.

But shooting an intruder is no joke.

If you shoot someone who has entered your house without permission, you could get into a world of many questions, interviews and maybe trouble. As of 2019, the Ohio Revised Code has included a "castle law" or "doctrine," which presumes that a homeowner acted in defense of another or themselves when using deadly force against an intruder − if the owner "reasonably believed that the force was necessary to prevent injury, loss, or risk to life or safety." However, Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser told me that the law does not give a "license to kill." You cannot simply shoot someone for being in your home uninvited.

An appeals court had also rejected Paxton's efforts on Wednesday, upholding a ruling by a Dallas County District Court, which agreed with State Fair officials who claimed they could enforce the decision as a private nonprofit.

Paxton,However, vowed to exhaust all possibilities. He claimed that the ban violates state laws and anticipated he will request the state Supreme Court to overturn the ban. "Neither the City of Dallas nor the State Fair of Texas can infringe on Texans' right to self-defense," said Paxton in late August when suing the fair over the decision.

The authorities' decision to ban weapons in the fair's premises comes after last year's shooting on the fairgrounds, where three people were injured.

Armed with a handgun, Shepard pushed the woman to the ground and grabbed her purse from the dining room table. The woman screamed for help, waking her adult son, who was asleep in a rear bedroom.
The son, acting to protect his mother, retrieved his legally owned firearm and confronted Shepard. Fearing for his mother’s life, he fired two shots, striking Shepard in the back and arm. Despite his injuries, Shepard fled the home but collapsed on the front lawn, where police quickly apprehended him.

Gun businesses will not be permitted within 500 feet of residential areas, 1,000 feet of schools, daycares, or government parks and 1,500 feet of another firearm retail establishment.

It’s the latest of a series of three gun safety laws from Meyer, the other two signed in June.

“The man was not listening to what they were telling him,” Johansson added to KLAS. “He was acting extremely irrational as they continued to tell him to leave the property.”

Johansson noted to the station that’s when the male moved toward the front door — and with that, the homeowner pulled the trigger.

Officers found the shot male in the driveway, KLAS said, adding that he later died at a hospital.

Johansson told the station there are "self-defense" elements in this case, and he doesn't believe the homeowner will face charges. The Clark County District Attorney will make a final determination, KLAS reported.

Since the U.S. Supreme Court in 2022 declared a constitutional right to carry, gun-rights advocates have targeted New Jersey’s famously tough gun laws, challenging one after the other in court, from its assault weapon ban to a prohibition on guns in sensitive places to a law that allows the state to sue gun makers as a public nuisance.

Thursday, they sued again, taking aim this time at a state law barring gun owners from buying more than one firearm a month.

But the government countered that Simmon's drug use makes him a prohibited person, meaning he couldn't lawfully possess guns at all.

Representing Simmons, public defender Lex Coleman emphasized his client's position that the government has no right to limit someone's rights based on their drug use.

Coleman pointed to District of Columbia v. Heller. In that 2008 decision, the Supreme Court found that a district law requiring gun owners to keep their rifles unloaded at home violated the Second Amendment because the amendment guarantees people's right to keep and bear arms for self-defense.

The State Fair of Texas opened on Friday, September 27 under a new firearms ban, having withstood weeks of pressure from Republicans who had charged into a public rift with one of the state's most beloved institutions.

Organizers put the ban in place following a shooting last year that injured three people and sent some fairgoers running and climbing over barriers to flee. By the time thousands of visitors began streaming through the gates in Dallas on Friday — greeted by the roughly five-story tall cowboy “Big Tex” — the state's highest court had rejected a last-minute appeal from the Texas attorney general, who argued the ban violated Texas' permissive gun rights.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. — James Madison, The Federalist Papers, No. 46
