An Oklahoma City police officer charged with sexually assaulting at least eight women was released on $500,000 bond Friday two days after his bond was reduced from $5 million, even though a prosecutor said he was a danger to the community.
Daniel Ken Holtzclaw, 27, was released Friday on several conditions, according to Oklahoma County jailers and his attorney. He is under house arrest and can go only to court and his attorney's office. He must turn in his police gear, guns and badge and is prohibited from contacting any alleged victims.

The Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility launched its TV advertising campaign yesterday to promote Initiative 594, a statewide ballot measure to broaden background checks on all gun purchases.

The ad, titled "Prevent," features former Bellingham Chief of Police Don Pierce. Citing FBI data, in the ad, Pierce credits current background check laws with stopping more than 40,000 people "felons, domestic abusers, you name it" from purchasing guns in Washington state.

Montanas Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, hoping to keep the Big Sky blue, is taking heat for her stance on gun rights.

Amanda Curtis of Butte was recently nominated to replace John Walsh on the November ballot.

Despite her counterclaims, Curtis is no moderate when it comes to guns. In 2013, she participated in a rally sponsored by former New York City mayor Michael Bloombergs group Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

The Montana Shooting Sports Association released a statement last week to address Curtiss record in the state House:

The president of Idaho's Second Amendment Alliance said Thursday he is pursuing a legal challenge to a city ordinance banning weapons at parades and other public gatherings.

"We are working on a way to file a suit to challenge the ordinance," said Greg Pruett.

Pruett said his organization has been working with cities all over Idaho to change their local codes to adhere to Idaho's preemption law, which prohibits cities from regulating firearms.

Just last week the organization successfully convinced Twin Falls County Commissioners to unanimously repeal that county's firearms ordinance banning guns in county parks.

Even before the passing of founder, Aaron Zelman, there was serious doubt as to whether or not JPFO could survive. For years Aaron struggled heroically with chronic health problems.

A little known children's book, which could have easily disappeared from store shelves, is making a comeback, in spite of a controversial target audience.

The children's book is entitled My Parents Open Carry, and tells the story of parents trying to explain to their child why they openly carry guns, and why the second amendment is important.

Late night talk show hosts have found plenty of fodder for discussion because of the book.

Three fathers of elementary school students have sued their respective school systems in Fulton, Gwinnett and Douglas counties to overturn policies that they claim tread on their Second Amendment right to bear firearms and make them subject to arrest.

Represented by an attorney for the gun rights organization GeorgiaCarry.org, the fathers said in their complaints that they want to be able to keep their guns with them at all time at school events and on school property and without restriction "in case of confrontation."

In a statement, the state police said: "The State Police, in cooperation with the Orleans County District Attorney's Office, will work with the gun store and its customers to come into compliance with the law, as it appears the non-compliance was unintentional."

The Orleans County DA will not press charges against Palumbo or his customers.

Palumbo believes this is an example of how confusing the SAFE ACT is. "This is what happens, when you try to pass a bill at midnight and you give everybody 20 minutes to read the bill," he said.

The planned merger of the Second Amendment Foundation with Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership was officially announced Thursday.

The news came three weeks after the potential acquisition of the financially troubled Jewish organization was leaked by former staffer Claire Wolfe. Under the terms of the merger, Wisconsin-based JPFO, will remain nominally independent from the much larger SAF, but will share common goals and web presence.

Michael Bloomberg is about to lay down arms on his war against firearms.

The former Mayor of New York City will be reassuming his role as President and CEO of Bloomberg LP, according to The New York Times. Bloomberg will take control at the beginning of next year, according to a memo distributed to the companys 15,000 employees by outgoing President and CEO Daniel Doctoroff.

September brings us the other side of the Second Amendment, a widow with a gun and the ability to use it responsibly a story that also should have scored big headlines but didn't.

That's a shame for Arizona (where contrary to our image, not everybody is walking around with an assault-style rifle at the ready). And it's a missed opportunity, given our ongoing, unending fistfight over guns.

Because the story is a place where all the various combatants could perhaps find some common ground and dare I say it? Trust.

The D.C. attorney generals office has asked U.S. District Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. to reconsider or at least stay his order that could make it legal for people to carry guns on our citys streets. The judge has signaled a reluctance to do so, but to deny the request would be deeply irresponsible, force hasty lawmaking on a complex, sensitive public safety issue and put lives at risk.

A mob of Wisconsin teens attempted to rob a group of adults in Milwaukee only to be shot at by a West Allis man carrying a concealed carry weapon.

Police say that a group of teens attempted to rob a group of adults when one of the men pulled out his gun and began shooting at the teens.

He fatally shot one of the robbers, a 15-year-old known gang member who was already the victim of another non-fatal shooting on August 1.

Georgia Carry is taking a county sheriff to court over a 10-day waiting period on sales of used guns they contend is in violation of state laws.

The suit, filed in Richmond County Superior Court this week, names Sheriff Richard Roundtree as a defendant and is seeking the countys ordinance on selling used weapons be overturned. Currently, the ordinance places a mandatory 10-day hold on used firearms before a dealer can resell them. The gun rights group maintains this violates Georgias preemption law that prohibits counties and cities from regulating the sale of firearms.

I'm all for real estate agents bringing guns to work, unlike my colleague, Ben Lane.

In addition to all the safety precautions recommended by NAR yes, real estate agents should arm themselves.

That comes with some caveats. Several big ones, in fact.

First, they should do so in compliance with the laws where they work. A few unfortunate jurisdictions those most often with the highest level of violent crime restrict concealed carry, and people should obey the law. Even stupid laws.

Kroger operates a number of different grocery stores around the country, including here in South East Idaho, such as Fred Meyers in Pocatello and Smiths in Chubbuck.

KPVI News 6 spoke to Moms Demand Action Idaho Chapter Leader, Dolores Aragon and she says if the company is committed to safety, not allowing patrons to carry weapons would reinforce that image, but not everyone agrees.
