THE Tory leadership will court new controversy on law and order in the new year by proposing extensive rights for householders to defend themselves against intruders.

A Tory government would enshrine in statute the right of householders to protect themselves or their property with “reasonable force”. The initiative follows public anger last year over the conviction for murder of Tony Martin, who was jailed for life for shooting dead an intruder at his Norfolk farmhouse.

Disarmed citizens die yet again

Just as in Boston recently, disarmed citizens die at the hands of murderers because they are not allowed to own firearms. If I were a family member of one of the victims in the Boston incident, I would be suing the crap out of the state for allowing my family member to be killed without the means of self defense. Have a great new year and keep up the fight.

If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government that is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. — JAMES MADISON
