I was criticized last year for my “starry-eyed” review of a book called 'Arming America: The Origins of a National Gun Culture'. The book said few people cared about or owned guns in the early 1800s. It offered mounds of evidence, which I and many others believed. Today, I'm not so sure...

California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA) filed a lawsuit challenging San Francisco's "assault weapon" ordinance. The lawsuit alleges that the city's ordinance is unconstitutional and is preempted by the state's "assault weapon" law. Other plaintiffs in the lawsuit include the California Sporting Goods Association (representing state firearm dealers) and several San Francisco residents that own firearms mis-classified as "assault weapons" by the city law.

A tale of police corruption - backed by FBI tapes of narcotics officers looting a drug house, taking $37,000 at gunpoint from an FBI agent posing as a Jamaican drug dealer, even a detective setting up his own son in the cocaine trade - will be told by government witnesses and prosecutors in federal court over the coming weeks.

"Many continuing threats to civil liberties in America are completely unrelated to terrorism or to national security. Furthermore, many...are silent about these abuses, because they are motivated by "progressive" goals -- such as ostensibly protecting women from abuse.

"Consider the widening reach and the unintended consequences of rape shield laws...hailed as a way to keep victims from being smeared as sluts in court, have sometimes kept juries from hearing evidence..." --Cathy Young

If it is true that all trends start in California, then the rest of the country had better pay attention. Gray Davis has proposed that his state's police agencies be given the same authority to fight terrorism that Congress recently gave the feds. If this keeps up, there won't be an untapped phone in the nation...

In the last fifteen years over 30 States in America have implemented this God given principle. And, every State that has followed this way of wisdom has seen a dramatic drop in violent crime, in some districts over 80%." --Pastor Jack Campbell

The Department of Transportation, acting on instructions from Congress, has begun work with states to develop "electronically smarter" drivers' licenses that can be checked for validity across the country, and that have more than just than that always-awful picture — like a fingerprint or retinal-scan imprint — to match the card to its holder.

So it's more of a national ID system, a linking of Departments of Motor Vehicles — and the records they keep on you — across state lines, with some extra on-card security measures thrown in...

Pellet guns are popular purchases in the new year as these can be bought without the person having to have a gun licence. But, not everyone is happy about this.

In accordance with the new gun laws which came into effect on January 1, number one pellet guns that use bullets of 2.97mm or smaller can be bought without having to get a gun licence. Other pellet guns, shooting gunpowder powered bullets, still require a licence.

Hamilton County residents could carry concealed weapons legally yesterday for the first time since the Roaring Twenties - but only for a few hours.

Ohio's Prohibition-era ban against hidden handguns suffered its first major dent in 75 years in the morning, when Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Bob Ruehlman ruled "every law-abiding citizen of this state" has the right to wear a concealed firearm.

AMA and Guns

I dislike dishonesty and I dislike political propaganda relabeled as another topic. The AMA will, no doubt, cry about the "tragedies" and wail about "the children", but the fact is that they are leftists touting and advancing a political agenda. More children drown in swimming pools than are accidentally killed with firearms. The AMA isn't running over to Doc Feelgoods' house to make sure he has his pool covered.

Gun ownership irrelevant to stand-off

Why was the line "cache of weapons" used? Was the line even relevant to the story? The story was about a man who had had an argument with his daughter. What father hasn't? A so-called "friend" called the police because he considered him "possibly" suicidal.

What constitutes a "cache of weapons"? Three shotguns, two rifles and one handgun (she insinuated there were others but did not mention if there truly were more) as he had does not by any stretch of the imagination constitute a "cache."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.' The right of the whole people, old and young, men, women and boys, and not militia only, to keep and bear arms of every description, and not such merely as are used by the militia, shall not be infringed, curtailed, or broken in upon, in the smallest degree; and all this for the important end to be attained: the rearing up and qualifying a well-regulated militia, so vitally necessary to the security of a free State. Our opinion is that any law, State or Federal, is repugnant to the Constitution, and void, which contravenes this right. [Nunn vs. State, 1 Ga. (1 Kel.) 243, at 251 (1846)]
