"Mike Bloomberg and his Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) caused quite a stir in the gun rights community recently when they released a poll declaring that gun owners and NRA members support the group's gun control agenda. ... The media gleefully reported the poll as indisputable fact while NRA and others cried 'Foul,' pointing out flaws in the pollster's methodology and challenging the results."

"The flaws and distortions are undoubtedly real, but it is important for rights activists to carefully examine this poll to find data we can use to help our cause. In spite of its flaws, this poll demonstrates a serious failure on the part of rights groups and supporters in efforts to educate our less activist brethren. ..." ...

"Once again, the editorial staff of this paper has amazed me with their ability to re-define laws and decide what rights citizens should have. In your 'Carry permits offer no public safety' article you refer to Leonard Embody's carry 'privileges' being checked ..."

"The Second Amendment plainly states that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed ... As for David R. Smith ('Americans have no right to carry guns in public,' Jan. 7), I'm sorry, sir, but just because the Supreme Court hasn't ruled on it does not nullify that right; the Second Amendment identifies it and instructs our government not to infringe on it. Carrying a firearm is a right, not a privilege." ...

"... George Bush conceived the Patriot Act, a questionably legal bill, and now his successor, who keeps it in place, threatens Freedom by targeting guns."

"C.I.F.T.A., a U.N. treaty, which purports to limit arms-trafficking, is his vector. Bill Clinton signed CIFTA in 1997, but the Republican-controlled Senate wouldn’t ratify, and the “evil” George Bush stone-walled for eight years. Today, with leftists in power, there is no stone-walling. In October, the United States reversed course, declaring that it was amenable to the treaty, and proceeded to back a time-table for signing ..." ...

"Gun ads? In a grocery store? What if the children see those ads?"

"As shocking as it might be to some people, there was a time not so long ago when guns were not only advertised in dedicated "gun" magazines, they were routinely advertised in popular publications of all kinds."

"Guns used to be a normal and acceptable part of American life. Guns were accepted as necessary tools and respectable recreational equipment ... even for children." ...

A grand jury finds a central New York woman was justified in fatally shooting a man who ransacked her home in October.

Deanna Candee of Schroeppel (SCROO'-puhl) in Oswego County was cleared of wrongdoing in the death of Timothy Hartigan, whom she found inside her home after returning from a shopping trip.

Deputies said Hartigan had ransacked her home and attacked Candee. Her son pulled Hartigan off of her and she grabbed her revolver and shot the intruder.

Hartigan's relatives said he had a history of mental illness.

The Oswego County district attorney's office said it would have no further details of the grand jury findings.

"Gun-rights supporters protested bills Monday making it a felony to bring weapons into New Hampshire's Statehouse and other government buildings, saying it would infringe on their constitutional rights and make the Statehouse an unwelcome place."

"'This is the people's home, the people's chamber,' state Rep. David Hess, R-Hooksett, said during a legislative committee hearing on the bills attended by over 100 people at the Statehouse. "The best opportunity to defeat ObamaCare may come from, ironically, Massachusetts."

"In the race to succeed the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, Republican State Senator Scott Brown could become the key vote to stop nationalized health care."

"With Senate Democrats controlling 60 votes, Republicans were unable to muster the 41 votes needed to block the anti-gun health care bill when it passed the Senate on Christmas Eve. But the bill must still be voted on by both the House and Senate, and the Senate is scheduled to reconvene on January 19 — the same day as the special election in Massachusetts." ...

"Somewhere in the distant past, apparently back in the 1970s, Snohomish County adopted a ban on firearms in county parks; a ban that remains on the books today, but thanks to the passage of a state preemption law in 1985, it is a regulation without teeth."

"Indeed, because of language in RCW 9.41.290, the state preemption act, this parks ban is null and void. The Everett Herald noted that Attorney General Rob McKenna has weighed in on this, due to the parks gun ban in Seattle – which is being challenged in court by the Second Amendment Foundation and National Rifle Association – and said that such parks bans are prohibited by the statute." ...

"Flawed Technology Remains Encumbered by Patents"

"Firearms microstamping, signed into by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-Calif.) in October 2007 and slated to take effect this New Year's Day (2010), is not in effect since the technology remains encumbered by patents. Microstamping -- the process by which firearms manufacturers would have to micro laser-engrave a gun's make, model and serial number on two distinct parts of each gun, including the firing pin, so that in theory the information would be imprinted on the cartridge casing when the pistol is fired -- must be certified as patent-free by the California Department of Justice before the law can go into effect." ...

"We had the votes to get it passed, but not enough ... to get past the veto,' council member Jeff Cox said today."

He is arrested, and Commissar Lautenberg–a villain straight from Soviet central casting–calls for sending him to the gulag. Despite the deliberate 'terrorism' hysteria ... this is a victimless crime. "Have you ever seen a bureaucracy beg more tirelessly for abolition than the [TSA]? For a month now, its spectacular ineptitude has hogged headlines, from the agency's posting of its classified nonsense on the internet to its welcoming the Underwear Bomber aboard his plane."

"You might think the latter especially would result in something a bit less tepid than the usual calls for reform. After all, the TSA is supposedly in charge of 'protect[ing] the Nation's transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce.' Taxpayers footing its $7-billion annual bill construe that very narrowly: they expect screeners to find boneheads such as Umar Farouk Abdullmutallab and hustle him off to jail rather than down the jetway ..." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. — Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed., reissued 1967.
