"Canada's billion-dollar boondoggle – the national gun registration scheme – has proven itself an abysmal failure, as that country's violent crime rates are double those reported in the United States, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) noted today."

"'We looked at violent crime rates per 100,000 population in both countries, using the most recent available data,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, 'and we were not surprised at what we found. Since Canada started this ridiculous and costly program, violent crime has gone up dramatically, at the same time that crime in the United States has declined. Yet, there are people in the states who think Canada's gun legislation should be the model for America.'" ...

"A year-old group called Patriots to Restore Checks and Balances on Tuesday urged Congress to hold 'open, substantive oversight hearings' examining the president's authorization of the National Security Agency to 'violate domestic surveillance requirements outlined in the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act.'"

"Former U.S. Rep. Bob Barr, the Republican chairman of Patriots to Restore Checks and Balances, was joined by fellow conservatives Grover Norquist ... David Keene ... Paul Weyrich ... and Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, in urging lawmakers to use the NSA hearings to restore 'much needed constitutional checks and balances to intelligence law.'"

"I have read the responses from Bill Mead's Jan. 2 letter to the editor, 'In hunting, substitute a camera for a rifle.'"

"One key lesson children learn from hunting seems to be missing."

"When children hunt, they get to be involved in all aspects of the hunt -- including the kill."

"It is my impression, over the years, that it teaches children how to understand death. At the point of the kill, the child now fully understands what it is to take a life."

"This is not a video game where they all come back to life and start a new game. They have killed an animal, and now have to bring it to terms and start a new chapter in their lives." ...

... "Aside from gay marriage and child porn, the national ACLU policy, set by the board of directors, is one of neutrality on the issue of gun control. The ACLU believes 'the Second Amendment does not confer an unlimited right upon individuals to own guns or other weapons, nor does it prohibit reasonable regulation of gun ownership, such as licensing and registration.'"

"The Second Amendment states 'the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.' The board of directors is quick to interpret this amendment as they want, just as they interpret the words 'equal protection of the laws' as an obvious defense of gay marriage." ...

"Boston City Councilor Rob Consalvo recently announced a plan to install GPS tracking devices on all new handguns in response to the city's increasing murder rate. Unfortunately, Councilor Consalvo has failed to make the connection between the high concentration of MS-13 gang members and the increasing murder rate. Councilor Consalvo also fails to explain how a tracking device will detect, prevent, or solve any crime. Does Councilor Consalvo really believe that a murderer, using a handgun with a GPS tracking device, will keep the handgun in his possession after committing a crime? If the gun was stolen from a law-abiding citizen, would that citizen be held responsible for the crime? Doesn't the tracking device create a gun registry system?" ...

"A typical shot for him will be 250 to 300 yards. His personal best was dropping a coyote at a mind-boggling 642 yards. That doesn’t lack a whole lot being half a mile."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. — Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed., reissued 1967.
