"Washington (Reuters) is reporting that a U.S. judge's decision to uphold the recent regulation changes mandated by the BATFE requiring gun dealers in four states bordering Mexico to report the sales of multiple semi-automatic rifles has been appealed by the gun industry. The report says that Judge Rosemary Collyer of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled that the reporting requirements ordered last year were sufficiently narrowly tailored. Collyer writes the reporting demand 'was limited to only certain sales of certain guns in certain states, ATF did not exceed its authority.'" ...

"WE ARE NOW a decade into what the Pentagon is calling the Long War. Terrorism remains a threat. But the threat comes not just from madmen on planes or bombs in cars parked in Times Square; the threat also comes from our very own government." ...

"Now add another Lieberman flourish to liberty's shackling: He has introduced a bill that would allow the U.S. government to take away a person's citizenship if he or she is deemed "hostile" to this country. The Enemy Expatriation Act requires no conviction in a court of law. So who is 'hostile'? Occupiers, including those who threw a smoke bomb at the White House on Tuesday? Ron Paul constitutionalists? Tea Partyers? Second Amendment advocates? And who decides?" ...

"As I suspected, it didn’t take long for gun-rights advocates to jump on Wednesday’s editorial. The editorial suggested that a state legislative proposal seeking to require gun safety training for applicants for permits to carry ... didn't unduly infringe on Second Amendment rights."

"In the pseudonymous comments appended to the editorial ... a reader styling himself 'The Oracle of the Athens Banner-Herald' raised the following, and predictable, argument:"

"'Is there some other constitutionally guaranteed right that requires mandatory, government authorized training before you can exercise it?' Oracle asked."

"'For example, say, the First Amendment? Maybe editorial writers should have to submit to state-mandated training ...'" ...

NC: County should curb, not promote, guns in parks

"Forsyth County commissioners are considering new legislation that would allow concealed-carry permit owners to carry their concealed weapons into county parks. The Winston-Salem City Council did the right thing recently by exempting most city parks from the new state law. Now it's Forsyth County's turn to show a little common sense."

"Under a new state law, permission to carry concealed weapons in parks will be granted, but local governments can still bar the weapons from parks with such features as playgrounds and ball fields. But not all commissioners want to opt out. Commissioner Bill Whiteheart, in particular, advocates allowing the weapons, citing the possibility of deterring crime. ..." ...

... "The other issue is to remove the guns guns. All the Second Amendment people out there will certainly disagree with me, but not having easy access to weapons will at least be start. Yes, there will still be guns out there. This isn’t going to be a quick process. It’s going to take some time to accomplish. IMHO, the entire city of New Orleans should be a gun-free zone. We’re not going to be able to solve the tendency towards violence that’s one of the hallmarks of American culture, but if the guns aren’t there, at least there won’t be any more people watching TV in their homes, or little babies outside playing who will take a bullet either. We have to start somewhere."

"By now, you are no doubt aware that several websites have either gone totally or partially 'dark' today in protest of the pernicious internet legislation that will be coming to a vote next week. Wikipedia and Google are just two of the websites which are protesting in this manner."

"And while you may have not paid much attention to this story, you need to know that the 'muzzle the web' legislation these sites are protesting could also affect your ability to get gun-related information on websites like GOA’s."

"The reason is that S. 968 could, in its final form, allow the Brady Campaign to partially shut down our GOA website and our organization (plus many other pro-gun websites) with a series of factually accurate, but legally frivolous complaints." ...

"The nation’s capital is home to some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country. Washington city leaders intentionally crafted convoluted regulations to make it difficult for citizens to own firearms legally. Now that these obstructionist rules are in the spotlight, the D.C. Council realizes it needs to clean up its act."

"The Washington Times’ Emily Miller has been closely documenting each step ... One of these is the mandatory gun 'safety' course consisting of four hours of classroom instruction and one hour on the shooting range. For this, the city hands prospective gun owners a long list of instructors ... As Miss Miller revealed, this sheet of 47 phone numbers hadn't been updated since September 2009. ..." ...

"The U.S. Supreme Court yesterday turned down a constitutional challenge to a California law banning possession of firearms by persons convicted of certain misdemeanors."

"The justices, without comment, denied a petition for certiorari by Rick Charles Delacy, convicted on four counts of unlawful possession of firearms and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition."

"Delacy had claimed that the ban violates the Second Amendment and/or the Equal Protection Clause. Div. One of the First District Court of Appeal rejected that argument in a 2-1 decision last February, and the California Supreme Court voted 5-1 in June not to review that decision." ...

"Judge Jim Warme ... also said in court documents that a Longview Municipal Court judge erred when ... she found both Warme and his wife guilty of speeding in a school zone."
