Authorities in Washington state finally cracked a 51-year-old murder of a woman only to discover the suspect, a former sheriff's deputy, died three days before they were granted an arrest warrant.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office revealed in a Facebook post this Monday that detectives were planning to arrest 85-year-old Duke Pierson in Covington County, Alabama in connection to the murder of Dorothy Fielding in 1967.

If passed, national reciprocity would allow citizens with a concealed carry permit to travel to other states and have their concealed carry privilege honored by authorities in that state, much like motorists with drivers licenses can operate their motor vehicles when they cross state lines.

I was pleased to cosponsor H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2019, Rogers said in an email to constituents. This common-sense legislation would allow those who meet the qualifications to carry or have in their possession a concealed handgun in another state that allows individuals to carry concealed firearms. Our Second Amendment rights shouldnt have to stop at the state line.

Authorities said the three people were initially involved in an argument on Sightler Drive before the disagreement became physical. Two of the people involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Officials said at least one of those two people have been released from the hospital. The condition of the second person was not released.

Investigators said the shooting appears to be a result of self-defense and no charges have currently been filed. Investigators also added this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.

While the Jan. 24 editorial The court trains it sights on guns correctly claimed that in its two landmark Second Amendment opinions, District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago, the Supreme Court enshrine[d] an individual constitutional right to the possession of a firearm at home for self-defense, it ignored that the justices found the right to bear arms for self-defense was not limited to the home. Indeed, Justice Clarence Thomas found it extremely improbable that the Framers understood the Second Amendment to protect little more than carrying a gun from the bedroom to the kitchen.

That Scalia who wrote the high court's landmark 2008 decision upholding gun rights could not define the reach of that right was telling. Now, three years after his death, the court appears ready to put some teeth into an amendment that some justices say gets no respect.

The case, on tap to be heard this fall, challenges obscure New York City rules that prevent gun owners from transporting their weapons outside the city, whether to second homes or shooting ranges. There's nothing else like it among state and local gun restrictions.

Media bias is something we as Second Amendment supporters often complain about and have to deal with. However, much of this bias is in the national news networks. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC are all bombarding us with hostility. The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and other newspapers also join in.

Republican Gov. Kristi Noem announced on social media that she will sign a bill allowing South Dakotans to carry concealed guns without a permit into law Thursday.

Noem's announcement on Wednesday, Jan. 30, came less than 24 hours after the House passed Senate Bill 47 by a 47-23 vote on Tuesday. It passed the Senate last week by a 23-11 vote. The governor's office later announced via news release that Noem will host SB 47's signing ceremony the first bill-signing ceremony of the 2019 legislative session and of Noem's tenure as governor at 12 p.m. Central Time Thursday.

Gov. Kristi Noem says she will sign into law a measure allowing people to carry concealed pistols without a permit in South Dakota.

The Republican governor tweeted Wednesday that the legislation would further protect the "Second Amendment rights of law-abiding South Dakotans." Noem plans to sign the bill on Thursday.

The move is a win for conservatives who have long supported the plan, which languished under former Republican Gov. Dennis Daugaard.

Yakima County Sheriff Bob Udell has joined the ranks of law enforcement officers who say they will not enforce the new Washington gun control initiative that places stiff requirements on the sale and purchase of semiautomatic rifles.

I just do not believe that it falls within the Constitution not the state or federal constitutions, Udell said Wednesday. I dont like it. Its not aimed at whos committing crimes.

Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner is joining a growing list of sheriffs across the state saying they will not enforce Initiative 1639.

Upon being sworn in as the Adams County sheriff, I have sworn to uphold the United States Constitution as well as the Washington State constitution to the best of my ability, Wagner said Wednesday. I have a duty to serve those in my community and protect their rights under the Constitution. As of now, I-1639 appears to violate the Second Amendment of (the) Constitution of the United States.

The fight over a Washington gun law passed by voters last November has caught the eye of several county sheriffs saying they dont plan to enforce the law calling it unconstitutional.

Initiative 1639 passed with 60 percent of Washington voters saying yes. The initiative bars the sale of semi-automatic rifles to people under 21 and it bars the sale to people who do not live in Washington. The law also requires buyers to pass an enhanced background check and prove theyve taken a firearms training course.

Tomorrow, January 31 is the deadline to provide comments on the proposed ammunition regulations submitted by the California Department of Justice (DOJ). The proposed regulations are a direct result of the enactment of both Proposition 63 and Senate Bill No. 1235 in 2016. The proposed regulations were released on December 14, 2018 and are the first in what is expected to be a series of regulatory proposals regarding the mandatory background check process when purchasing ammunition, scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2019.

Finally, Sen. Thune assets that the right to concealed carry is secured by the Second Amendment and is therefore a U.S. Constitutional right.

That is an assertion that has no foundation in any ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court or lower federal court to my knowledge. Indeed, the U.S. Supreme Court has not recognized our 2nd Amendment right as extending any farther than my right to own a hand gun in the privacy of my home for the purpose of personal protection. Certainly, this current conservative Supreme Court could expand the right to own and bear arms beyond that noted but, to date, it has not.
