Gun Bans Don't Work, and Marion Barry is Living Proof, Says CCRKBA

"The armed robbery Monday of Washington, D.C. Councilman and former Mayor Marion Barry should not have happened to him, nor should any citizen in the District face such a crime, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today."

"'Unfortunately,' said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, 'Barry and his anti-gun colleagues on the city council have steadfastly opposed repeal of the gun ban in the District. It is mind boggling that in the capital of the Free World, where the original Constitution of the United States resides, that the citizens of that city may not exercise their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.'" ...

"In the wake of two NYPD shooting deaths, New York City's Republican Mayor Bloomberg has vowed to crack down on illegal firearm sales across the country. 'We will take our message to Albany, to Washington and to every capitol of every state that permits guns to flow freely across its borders,' said Bloomberg."

"... Mayor Bloomberg, in typical anti-gun fashion, refuses to acknowledge that New York City's draconian handgun laws attracts criminals to his city as most law-abiding citizens in NYC are unarmed." ...

"I have no problem being monitored. It's because I'm not a terrorist and I'm not involved in terrorist activities. If monitoring would reassure my government of this fact — monitor away, please."

"I'm also a responsible gun owner, and the government is welcome to know about my legally owned firearms. I take my Second Amendment rights seriously, as all sportsmen and collectors should. Why should honest people be concerned about the government knowing how many guns they have?"

"I suggest a new paradigm...or really an old paradigm...be brought back into our society. Let’s make the punishment fit the crime, and do away with plea bargaining for any crime involving a firearm, and anyone involved in the commission of that crime. That’s right, the 'wheel man' becomes guilty of the same crime as the wielder of the gun. The co-conspirator becomes as guilty as the perpetrator of the crime. ..." ..

Thanks to all the pathetic socialist Bush bashers in the Senate and Congress, and the extreme-left biased mainstream media, Washington already has a complete record of all my guns."

"It ain’t necessarily an easy gig, writing western history. There’s just so much cultural freight behind the genre, so much expectation. Unless you’re Bernard de Voto, how do you make an appeal to the general market without losing the respect of your peers? Unless you’re Wallace Stegner, how do you indulge the professorial without seeing your subject turn bland as Ovaltine? Charles G. Worman’s new coffee table book Gunsmoke and Saddle Leather: Firearms in the Nineteenth-Century American West (University of New Mexico Press, $55) goes a long way toward striking that difficult balance between authenticity and amusement, elbowing its way onto the short list of entertaining texts that nevertheless manage to make some contribution to their disciplines." ...
