"A cop comes across a crime in progress and sees someone with a gun. The cop immediately assumes the guy with the gun is a Bad Guy. He yells at the 'perp' to drop the weapon and when the 'perp' turns towards him (possibly to show his badge, or tell him 'I’m on the job'!) he has to assume he's about to take fire and shoots. Then, tragically, he finds out that the 'perp' in this situation was an off-duty law enforcement officer. This is the sort of story the antis really don't like to talk about ...
