"Every day I get up and put on a gun. It’s part of my daily routine. No different from making coffee or feeding the dogs before I leave for work."

"There is so much misinformation about who that makes me. I’m a 'gun nut.' I’m one of 'those right-wing Second Amendment people.' I’m the scourge of the earth to some."

"Funny how that works."

"They don’t even know me but they are worried that I’m what’s wrong with this country, this state and this city I call home. I walk among them and they don’t even know it. I’m the guy in the jeans and Under Armour shirt, the guy in the $200 sport coat and $125 shoes, ... and some days I’m the guy with dirty hands from working in the yard, but most of all I’m the guy they never see." ...

"New Hampshire is a great place for firearms owners. No permits are required to carry openly, and residents can sell their guns to one another without any government paperwork. Acquiring a concealed carry license is as simple as filling out a one-page form and paying a $10 fee. Or so I thought…"

"When I applied for a Pistol Permit in New Hampshire this July, I was shocked to learn that I could be denied my rights simply for exercising them. Can you lose your second amendment for using the first?"

"The State argues that I am not 'suitable' for a license because I commit civil disobedience. ..." ...

"After encountering the nbc.com story Florida Man Charged With Decapitating Mom With Ax, I posted a link on TTAG’s Facebook page and called for an axe ban. Commentator Cecil B Deemehnted took me to task for the suggestion. 'Come on now. We don’t need to ban axes, and no one is saying we should. We just think there should be some common sense laws for axe safety. You should have to register your axe, and only be allowed to buy it after a background check…even if it’s from a private individual. The axe blade should not be wide enough that it could take off a head in one chop, and the handle length must be an overall length of at least 36″. Anything shorter will require a tax stamp and ATF/Local law enforcement approval of course . . ." ...

"It has come to my attention that there are certain segments of the gun owning community that feel conceding on the issue of background checks is a politically and pragmatically wise course of action. The idea is that since gunowners were outspent in Washington state in the fight over passage of I-594 that such losses are inevitable in other states, therefore if we support some form of universal background check we can reduce the damage done by an I-594-like law. The most prominent proponent of such an idea is Alan Gottlieb of SAF and CCRKBA fame, but he is not alone."

"Yet another taxpayer-funded professor is assaulting the Bill of Rights. In an op-ed in his local Portland newspaper, professor Tom Hastings of Portland State University actually called for the 'repeal' of the Second Amendment."

"... I want to address what many in media are overlooking with regard to these so-called academics."

"I spent a lot of time in academia ... I know guys like Hastings from a student perspective and from a colleague perspective. Some may think that it is a ridiculous statement by a college professor who has never set foot in the real world outside of his ivory tower. I contend that there is something far more insidious lurking at the surface of Hastings’ statements. ..." ...

"A piece in Newsmax noted that anti-gun war chests are 'getting fatter, thanks to the backing of wealthy donors such as former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.' "In his famous 1929 painting The Treachery of Images, Belgian Surrealist painter Rene Magritte depicted a very realistic pipe, but added the paradoxical caption, 'This is not a pipe.' Magritte’s point was very simple: a picture of a pipe is not a pipe. If you don’t agree with Magritte, just imagine an army equipped with pictures of rifles, machine guns, cannons, mortars and tanks."

"It seems, however, that most of the people who misunderstood my article 'Abolish the Second Amendment. We Don’t Need It,' are fully convinced that the Second Amendment is a gun, because they accused me of being anti-gun, when I am just anti-Second Amendment. One of them wrote, 'How dare you want to abolish our dearest amendment?'[1]" ...

"Engvall has released a statement apologizing for those previous remarks."

"I don’t know much about hunting ducks, but I do know a thing or two about hunting in general. And the first big lesson of hunting is that pulling the trigger is the easy part. Getting your game from the field to the table is where the real work starts. Having done a little bird hunting in my time, I know that a suitable vest is all you need to hold a daily bag limit of doves or quail in the field. Ducks though, they’re a bigger animal. For a duck, you need a strap. Specifically, a duck strap . . ." ...

"When I saw the first press release for the SIG SAUER P320, I was immediately intrigued. I had on several prior occasions handled the SIG P250 and liked how it felt in my hand. However, I couldn’t get past the DAO trigger. The modularity, while an interesting selling point, also seemed a bit gimmicky to me. For those of you who don’t know, the P320 is basically a P250, with a slightly different slide look. And the P320 is striker-fired fired. In fact, P250 magazines and frames are interchangeable with the P320. There are supposedly some barrels that can be swapped between the two, but the fire control unit and the slide are completely different. ..." ...

"I consider myself to be a fairly pragmatic individual when it comes to firearms. Every gun I own serves a purpose. Whether it is a shotgun for hunting or a pistol for concealed carry, I make sure that each guns fills a designated role. I also try to avoid buying anything that is overly flashy or covered in superfluous accessories. To put it simply, I like my guns to do their job right and look average while doing it. The one area where I was failing in this was deer hunting. I didn’t get serious about deer hunting until I was in college, and for the first few years I had been using my 1942 Mosin Nagant 91/30. While not entirely impractical, it did fail on several accounts . . ." ...

"Thermal optics are amazing. Using a part of the light spectrum that we can’t see, they can turn a pitch black night into virtual daytime, showing us a completely new level of detail. The downside: they cost an astronomical amount of money if you want to use them on your gun. The cheapest option available right now clocks in at $3,500, not a small sum for those who might just want to use that tech once or twice a year for hunting. Thankfully there have been a number of companies bringing consumer-grade thermal optics devices to the market. One of the more interesting is the $250 Seek Thermal camera, designed for smart phones . . ." ...

"'If you own a gun and it gets stolen, chances are you won’t get it back. That’s the not entirely surprising conclusion from a stolen gun study in The Land of Lincoln,' began Stolen Guns Data Reveals Background Checks=Security Theater. Reading such articles, I realize that I usually take far too much for granted, such as the fact that very few Americans understand how the police operate, particularly, how they recover–or for the most part do not recover–stolen property. This is a significant issue in the gun control debate as anti-liberty advocates have latched onto various sorts of enhanced background check schemes, their 'high-capacity magazine,' and 'assault weapon' bans having been handily defeated virtually everywhere . . ." ...

"The worst type of political scandal doesn’t involve the passing of money but the manipulation of public information. The reason for this is plain. Money cannot buy everything in the political world. Many very wealthy or well-connected candidates have failed. Many well-funded legislative efforts have come to nothing. But control over the sources of public information – above all, the schools and the press – brings control over public opinion, which makes any political achievement possible.
