Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 1127 into law, banning the sale of guns that can “readily converted by hand or with common household tools” into a machine gun.
Glocks and glock-style guns fall into this category, which is one of the most popular handguns in the nation.
After the governor’s signature, the NRA, Firearms Policy Coalition, and Second Amendment Foundation along with local plaintiffs, including Poway Weapons and Gear, its president and general manager filed a lawsuit challenging the ban in San Diego federal court. |

A Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) watch commander told the FSView that the men are "Second Amendment auditors" who were likely seeking engagement and drawing attention to the lawful carry of firearms.
TPD observed the men and didn't make contact because they were lawfully carrying. Officers contacted the original caller and told them as long as the individuals aren't on campus open carry is legal.
The photo caused alarm as it was circulated in group texts and chats on campus. |

At the time of this writing, Snopes found no evidence that Bondi or the DOJ were creating a registry of gun owners. Though a federal judge did order three gun owner organizations or associations to hand over verified member lists to government bodies, the same judge later vacated that judgment. It was unclear at the time of this writing what a revised judgment in Reese v. Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms & Explosives would entail.
The Oct. 7 judgment did not permit Bondi or the DOJ to create a gun owner registry and would have only released outdated member information from the three groups involved in the lawsuit. |

In a major win for privacy and gun rights advocates, a U.S. District Court has vacated an order that would have forced the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) to hand over its membership list to the federal government.
The reversal came after SAF, its partner organizations, and the Department of Justice filed a joint motion to amend the judgment late last week.
...
With the order vacated and further proceedings scheduled to determine the proper scope of relief, SAF expects additional updates in the near future.

In the lawsuit, filed in the Central District of California, the DOJ alleges LASD approved only two concealed carry weapons permits out of more than 8,000 applications over the course of 15 months, with interviews scheduled as far as two years out for applicants.
In the filing, the DOJ argued that LASD has “has systematically denied thousands of law-abiding Californians their fundamental Second Amendment right to bear arms outside the home — not through outright refusal, but through a deliberate pattern of unconscionable delay that renders this constitutional right meaningless in practice.” |

“Transferred intent works where if you go to shoot at one person, intending to kill them, and hit another person, your intent to kill the first person is transferred to the second person,” said Dan Hagan, defense attorney for Santana-Rodriguez. “And the question with this case is, does your defense of self-defense also transfer?”
The court’s decision allows Santana-Rodriguez to present a self-defense argument, which could influence the outcome of his trial. However, even if the jury accepts this defense, he could still face a conviction for involuntary manslaughter. |

Poway Weapons and Gear and PWG Range, a firearms retailer, shooting range, and training facility in the city of Poway, also sued over the new law. |

The National Rifle Association has filed a lawsuit against California over the state's ban on Glock-style pistols.
The law, one of several signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom last week, targets handguns that can be converted into automatic weapons.
Gun rights organizations claim the ban violates the Second Amendment.
The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action said AB 1127 is "an attempt to further villainize certain categories of firearms and advance California's gun ban agenda." |

“Once we read the judge’s order, we took quick and decisive action to ensure our member data will not be supplied to anyone, much less the government,” said SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut. “Thankfully the Department of Justice agreed with our position and has joined in this motion to amend the judgment. However, it should still be made extremely clear, SAF has never – and will never – provide the government a list of our members, and we won’t be strong-armed into turning over the private data of those who support SAF and the Second Amendment.” |

On the same day that the Justice Department (DOJ) posted a video defending its stance on Second Amendment issues, it filed a legal brief in opposition to an en banc hearing in a Second Amendment case in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
The case, United States v. Peterson, involves George Peterson, a Louisiana man, who was arrested for having an unserialized suppressor. Suppressors in the United States have to be serialized and registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) under the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA). This process requires submitting fingerprints, photographs, undergoing multiple background checks, and paying a $200 tax stamp fee. |

Let’s be clear: the Second Amendment doesn’t say, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed… unless the government says otherwise.” It doesn’t carve out exceptions for background checks, waiting periods, or fees. The right to bear arms is exactly that. It’s a right. Not a privilege, not a maybe, and not a “we’ll see.” ‘Keep’ means you can have them, and ‘bear’ means there’s probably at least one on me right now.
Yet here we are, so conditioned to government overreach that we jump through hoops just to exercise something that was never the government’s to regulate in the first place. |

A newly passed law in California restricts sales of a popular type of handgun that critics have long said is too easy to convert into a machine gun.
The law, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom on Oct. 10, will outlaw retail sales of semiautomatic handguns that can be easily modified using a category of tools commonly known as "Glock switches" – machine gun-conversion devices that interfere with the gun's trigger device to allow shots to continually fire while the trigger is pressed. |

A bipartisan group of lawmakers has introduced a resolution to encourage Ohioans to safely store their guns so children stop dying, as actual firearm regulation legislation sits stagnant in the Republican-dominated legislature.
Year after year, tragedy strikes in cases where unsecured guns turn into accidental shootings.
Just in the last few months, an Akron 10-year-old was accidentally shot in the face while with a friend. A Cleveland 14-year-old was accidentally shot and killed after a gun went off in a car. An Elyria 15-year-old was also accidentally shot. A 1-year-old had to undergo surgery after a teen accidentally shot him.

The next time you see a county employee, they could very well have a pistol on their hip.
And they would not be violating any county policy.
Brevard County commissioners this week amended their employee policy around firearms to reflect an appeals court ruling in McDaniels vs. State of Florida allowing open carry in Florida starting in September.
State Attorney General James Uthmeier issued a guidance to Florida's prosecutors that "open carry is the law of the state" leading to Brevard County deciding Oct. 14 to permit open carry for county employees provided they are also in compliance with other state and federal laws. |
