An 83-year-old Benson man will not face charges after allegedly shooting his grandson Wednesday evening in what police believe was an act of self-defense.
Benson Police responded to a reported shooting at 5:44 p.m. at 101 East Kennedy Circle. When officers arrived, they found a 27-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the back. The victim was transported to WakeMed for treatment and was listed in stable condition at last report.
...
After reviewing the case with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office, authorities determined that no charges would be filed at this time, citing evidence consistent with self-defense. |

If you can legally carry a concealed firearm in your home state, you should be able to do the same when you travel across state lines. That’s common sense. It’s consistent with the Constitution. And thanks to the Supreme Court, it’s increasingly clear that it should be the law.
America doesn’t tell travelers to give up their First Amendment rights at a state border. It doesn’t say that Ohioans lose free speech in New Jersey, or that Texans lose Fourth Amendment protections when landing at LAX. Yet with the Second Amendment, some states act as if constitutional rights stop at their borders. |

Georgia has some of the most permissive Second Amendment laws in the country. In 2022, it became legal to carry without a permit and in 2017, legislation passed allowing concealed weapons on university campuses.
In fact, Georgia’s gun laws provide some of the broadest rights for gun owners and in 2025, the state ranked 46th out of 50 in the strength of its gun laws, according to Everytown for Gun Safety.
As long as you meet certain requirements, you can own and carry a firearm, openly or concealed, in Georgia if you’re at least 21, and Weapons Carry Licenses are not necessary in most circumstances.

U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody is signing on as a co-sponsor of the Constitutional Concealed Reciprocity Act to allow gun owners to extend concealed carry privileges to other states.
The measure was introduced in Congress this year and would make concealed carry rights in one state “reciprocal” for that gun owner in any other state that also has laws permitting the carrying of concealed firearms.
Moody said in a news release Tuesday that extending concealed carry privileges would be a smart move on the part of the federal government. |

Members of the Colorado Supreme Court seemed open on Tuesday to recognizing a right for employees to use self-defense in the workplace without facing termination.
“It may be shoplifting, but if it’s a self-defense situation and you’re reasonably in danger of serious injury or death, why should the employer make that choice for the employee in advance?” asked Justice Carlos A. Samour Jr. during oral arguments. “It’s not always the safer route to do nothing and to just comply with whatever is happening.”
The court also spent time discussing whether self-defense in the workplace should follow the same contours as for criminal cases. |

State lawmakers should pass "gun reform" local legislation specific to Montgomery, according to Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed.
Reed told attendees of a Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce gathering on Wednesday that he will ask Montgomery's local legislative delegation to introduce "common sense gun reform" local legislation.
Reed has previously been critical of Alabama's constitutional carry law. The law is supported by 2nd Amendment advocates. It allows citizens to possess a firearm without a permit or license. |

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the firearms industry trade association, is sounding the alarm about a large player in the bitcoin realm creating a system that treats lawful firearm purchases as a prohibited activity.
In a news release distributed on October 20, NSSF explained how Congress recently passed the GENIUS Act, a measure designed to bring stability and accountability to the digital asset market by providing a legal framework for U.S. dollar–backed stablecoins. Lawmakers wanted to encourage innovation while protecting consumers and reinforcing America’s leadership in financial technology. |

St. Paul city leaders are expected to introduce an ordinance in a city council meeting Wednesday that would ban assault weapons in the city.
It’s also an ordinance that — even if passed — would not go into effect unless the state repeals a law that prevents local governments from regulating firearms.
The largely symbolic move comes after the August shooting at Annunciation Church and School that killed two children and injured 28 others in Minneapolis. Efforts toward a special legislative session focused on the shooting have stymied, leading St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter and other municipal leaders to push for a pathway to pass their own laws. |

This most recent example appears to build on Brown v. ATF and seeks a judicial declaration that the NFA’s regulation of now-untaxed firearms exceeds Congress’s enumerated powers and violates the Second Amendment. The FPC Action Foundation, along with three individual citizens, Hot Shots Custom, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, and the Texas State Rifle Association, is bringing this case forward, with additional support from the Second Amendment Foundation. |

The Supreme Court said on Monday that it will consider whether people who regularly smoke marijuana can legally own guns, the latest firearm case to come before the court since its 2022 decision expanding gun rights.
President Donald Trump’s administration asked the justices to revive a case against a Texas man charged with a felony because he allegedly had a gun in his home and acknowledged being a regular pot user. The Justice Department appealed after a lower court largely struck down a law that bars people who use any illegal drugs from having guns. |

That has turned out to be ornamental valor, simply hollow declarations of a courage they never possessed and a patriotism that was nonexistent.
Their well-armed Militia cowboy promises were always a coward’s deflection.
We’re now ten months in to a fascist regime led by a morally and mentally untethered authoritarian that, together, have weaponized the Military against the American people in ways we have rarely experienced in the life of this nation… and our supposedly willing Conservative defenders have disappeared. |

The sweet scent of charcoal smoke, tinged with sulphur, drifted through the brisk fall air as a gunshot echoed off the nearby hillside, carrying across the rushing current of the Madison River.
For a brief moment, the patch of private land, transformed into a makeshift gun range for the day, fell silent. Then another shot cracked through the stillness, followed by another and another, as many first-time shooters began to find their rhythm, gaining confidence with each pull of the trigger.
The budding empowerment was exactly what organizers hoped the event would inspire. |

In this autumn of 2025, as America looks just a few calendar flips ahead to its 250th bash, there is a race in Virginia—the very state most responsible for the U.S. Bill of Rights—that should be a referendum on the Second Amendment. The fact that our right to keep and bear arms has not been so central to this race has nothing to do with the contrasting positions of its two candidates, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (R) and Abigail Spanberger (D).
Earle-Sears is a pro-freedom candidate who has been endorsed by the NRA Political Victory Fund. Spanberger is a vociferous gun grabber who has been endorsed by perhaps every gun-control group in the nation.
