Bellevue v. Bloomberg: NYPD cops busted for gun running
Submitted by: Bruce W. Krafft

"Anti-gun New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has just been handed an embarrassing little scandal involving eight New York City police officers, several guns with obliterated serial numbers and the go-for-the-jugular criticism of Bellevue gun rights activist Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms."

"Almost immediately after the Reuters news agency reported Tuesday morning that eight New York City police officers had been charged with 'helping run a gun-smuggling ring in a city where Mayor Michael Bloomberg is leading a national campaign against illegal guns,' Gottlieb was taking off his gloves." ...

Are Bloomberg’s cops the ‘only ones’ who can be trusted with guns in NYC?

... "... And as for those who would dismiss this as 'a few bad apples,' admittedly, out of the 35,000+ full-time and 4,500 auxiliary officers on the force, these few recently-documented reports represent a small percentage."

"But then again, just look at what the dishonest citizen disarmament fanatics do to make the case that gun-owning citizens--who jump through all the hoops to carry firearms for self-defense--are a murderous threat because of anecdotal incidents involving an even smaller percentage of the total population of concealed carriers." ...
-------

KABA Note: As David says at the end of his piece: The purpose of this feature has never been to bash cops. The only reason I do this is to amass a credible body of evidence to present when those who would deny our right to keep and bear arms use the argument that only government enforcers are professional and trained enough to do so safely and responsibly. And it's also used to illustrate when those of official status, rank or privilege, both in law enforcement and in some other government position, get special breaks not available to we commoners, particularly (but not exclusively) when they're involved in gun-related incidents.

'Gun control': Historically racist, and racist still

... "As I predicted last month, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence didn't like that one bit, especially given Winkler's reputation as a moderate on gun rights/'gun control' issues. CSGV communications director Ladd Everrit had in the past, after all, claimed that pointing out the racist history of restrictive gun laws was a 'smear,' seen only in the 'darkest corners of the gun rights movement.' Just as expected, Everitt tried to strike back, rising up in righteous indignation at a talk presented by Professor Winkler, chastising him for the 'smear.'" ...

... "The belief that the rights of the people as a whole depend on protecting the rights of the individuals within that whole is the 'number one warning sign' for a mass killer? And it gets worse if this lover of individual freedom had once agreed to put his or her life on the line for the American way of life (guess he really hates the Oath Keepers)? Not a word about the risk factor posed by rules that mandate that the plentiful supply of potential victims is unarmed and defenseless?" ...

"While I was recently giving a class at a Modern Orthodox synagogue in New York City on the topic of halachic approaches to weapons I asked this group of 25 people (most between 50-65 years old) how many of them owned guns. I expected 1 or 2 hands to emerge but was astonished to find that about 50-60% admitted to having a gun at home. Shortly after, I learned that there is an Orthodox organization now training Orthodox Jews to use guns and to bring them to synagogue as a form of 'protection.' If the religious Jewish community in America has joined the consumers of guns then we must also enter into the national gun discourse." ...

"TTAG’s Fearless Leader called me up shortly before I left for Knob Creek. 'I’m going to make your day' he said. He’s said this before. The last time an ArmaLite AR-50 showed up at my FFL. Needless to say, he had my attention. 'I’m sending you a Wilson Combat 1911.' Sweet. I’ve been looking at upgrading from my Springfield A1 and this would give me an opportunity to test out the high end options, I thought. Maybe I could even get WC to strike me a deal on one if I liked it. Before I had a chance to say anything, RF dropped the bomb. 'One more thing — I want you to keep it. Just do a full review.' Yes, boss. Right away . . ." ...

"A few weeks ago I ran a story about Franklin Armory’s new contraption. Thanks to some legal footwork this thing isn’t technically a rifle, isn’t technically a pistol, and isn’t covered under the NFA. It’s legally considered a 'firearm,' and looks like the most awkward thing in the world to fire. Naturally, I had to get my hands on one of these 'stamp-free SBR' firearms and see for myself. Frankly, the journey was more interesting than the destination (if you catch my drift). And now that the gun has left my possession I can tell you all about it." ...
