Within hours of the tragic shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon on October 15th, the familiar political script was dusted off. Gun control organizations were immediately mobilized to demand fresh restrictions on firearm access, expanded waiting periods, and outright bans. Yet no policy proposed by gun control advocates would have changed the outcome, save for the one that left every student and teacher on campus defenseless.
The perpetrator ... bypassed Oregon’s battery of strict gun control measures, including universal background checks, red-flag laws, and safe-storage mandates, before shooting through the school’s locked glass doors. |

No charges will be filed against the man initially taken into custody following a stabbing Thursday at an Albert Lea hotel.
Freeborn County Attorney David Walker said authorities concluded based on evidence, including statements of witnesses, that Wyatt Harley Dahle acted in self-defense during an altercation with Roberto Cecilio Aleman, 31, at Albert Lea Inn and Suites.
Charges of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault have instead been filed against Aleman, of Albert Lea. Aleman remains hospitalized in Rochester, where he was taken for life-threatening injuries. His condition as of Monday was unknown. |

Four armed robbers followed a man back to his home in Buford, Georgia, after he’d spent a night out in Atlanta. They planned to rob him. Instead, one of them ended up dead, killed with his own gun.
According to testimony from Gwinnett County Police Corporal J.K. Bell at a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, four people trailed an apparent stranger back to Buford on Sept. 5 to rob him. Bell testified the intended victim wrestled a silver revolver away from one of the robbers, Marvin Wiley, 23, of Atlanta, and killed Wiley with it. He also shot a second robber. |

Around 5:20 a.m. in the 400 block of Bell Road, police say a 31-year-old man admitted to shooting Davila after encountering him earlier inside a Hookah Lounge, where Davila reportedly asked to buy cocaine. The 31-year-old told detectives he does not use drugs and left the lounge.
Police say the 31-year-old claimed Davila tried to rob him in the parking lot with a gun after the initial interaction. The 31-year-old then shot him, drove away because he was worried about his safety and was stopped by officers a few minutes later down the road. He told police he was heading back to the scene to meet with them when stopped. |

Sunday morning’s shooting at the 5th St. Taco Bell is being investigated as a self-defense incident, Charlottesville Chief of Police Michael Kochis said Tuesday.
The shooter remained on the scene and cooperated with police after the incident, which occurred around 9 a.m.
“Two individuals who knew each other had some of type a dispute,” Kochis said. “They engaged with each other at the Taco Bell. One person pulled out a weapon. Another person pulled out their own weapon, which was a firearm, and shot the person in the shoulder. Thankfully it was non-life-threatening injuries. We’re working with the commonwealth attorney now to determine appropriate charges. But on its face, preliminarily, it does look like self-defense.” |

As Andre Wolfe, an instructor at the San Marcos franchise, which opened earlier this year, pointed out, a person might rely on a firearm for protection and have an opponent disarm them or the gun malfunction.
“Now what?”
By combining firearms training with martial arts, participants can better protect themselves and their loved ones in a wider range of situations, franchise co-owner and general manager Sonya Hatch explained.
The firearms training — which includes no actual firearms, but instead uses laser simulators and air guns — focuses not only on marksmanship but also on how to move in different spaces to maximize personal safety. |

The Supreme Court will soon hear arguments in December in Viramontes v. Cook County, a challenge to state and local bans on AR-15 semiautomatic rifles. The challengers say the rifles are “in common use” for lawful purposes such as self-defense. The state governments defending their gun-bans say they are weapons better suited to war than to civilian life.
Neither side recognizes that the Second Amendment’s reference to the “militia” counts in favor of protecting AR-15s either way. |

Richardson, however, said the details provided in the Hemani case raises questions about whether that situation was similar to Scofield’s.
“The court is not looking at a generic description. They’re actually saying he smokes marijuana. He smokes it a couple times a week,” the judge said. “They’re sort of looking at the specific conduct of Hemani, which seems to suggest we have to look at the specific conduct here. The specific conduct here is he’s in a parking lot and he’s firing his gun. It doesn’t hit anybody, thankfully, but that doesn’t feel like a sort of happy-go-lucky story."
“When we start looking at his particular conduct, I don’t know, seems like you got a difficult story," the judge added. |

She added that it worries her as a pediatrician that gun violence is the leading cause of death in the U.S. She believes universal background checks will chip away at the problem.
"The vast majority of South Carolinians agree that we should have universal background checks, background checks that just take a few minutes at the point of sale and can help chip away at the problem of guns falling into the wrong hands," Andrews said.
Andrews added that she has worked on programs to educate families on safe gun storage in the home. |

Boulder City police detectives arrested John Powell Morgan III on Saturday on a charge of open murder with a deadly weapon. The charge stems from the May 31, 2021, shooting death of 40-year-old Scott Dingman. Morgan avoided charges after the shooting by telling investigators he acted in self-defense.
Detectives took Morgan into custody at a car dealership in Henderson, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. KTNV Channel 13 Las Vegas reported that a warrant was issued for his arrest and that he is being held without bail. Both reports were compiled by Soap Opera Spy. KTNV also reported that Morgan was expected to make his initial appearance in Boulder City Justice Court at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 26. |

Gun control advocates have a bad habit of attempting to rewrite history. Few of their revisionist efforts, however, have been as brazen as their campaign to strong-arm the Biden administration into scrubbing the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of accurate but inconvenient data on defensive gun uses. Now, as the Trump administration restores the agency’s longstanding acknowledgement of basic defensive gun use data, gun control advocates have audaciously declared it a “politically motivated” move to “inflate” defensive gun use numbers.
It’s hilariously bad faith framing, even for them. |

The first brief supporting Connecticut’s ban on modern semiautomatic firearms was filed at the Supreme Court Monday, arguing that part of the Second Amendment was “extinct.”
In briefs filed Wednesday, Connecticut and Cook County cited prohibitions on obscure weapons like launcegays and slungshots while arguing the justices should allow their bans on so-called “assault weapons” to remain legal. Attorney David Alan Robinson, a specialist in employment law who lives in Connecticut, instead argued in the brief that the abolition of the draft ended the militia and made that part of the Second Amendment “extinct.” |

While a federal trial court initially dismissed the challenge, the 5th Circuit reversed it and made clear, applying New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen’s two-step analysis, that “switchblade knives qualify as ‘Arms’ and are covered by the ‘plain text’ of the Second Amendment.” It also made clear that the government, in defending the act, failed to meet its burden of showing that its restrictions comport “with well-established principles of the Second Amendment and its regulatory tradition.” |

In an article published by the Second Amendment Foundation, Lisa Chittaro calls for a “Second Amendment immunity defense” built on the Stand Your Ground model, only broader.
“We need a Second Amendment immunity defense for anything involving the lawful possession of a firearm,” Chittaro said, according to SAF. “It should mirror Stand Your Ground statutes, but it needs to be broader. It should allow defense attorneys to ask the court to find immunity under the protections of the Second Amendment quickly and efficiently and if they don’t, it should provide a quick route to the appellate level without having to go through the entire court process, which can take years.” |

As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, the Department of War is recognizing the gunsmiths who helped secure the nation’s independence. These craftsmen did more than repair broken muskets. They manufactured firearms from raw materials, developed new weapons, and kept American forces armed throughout the Revolutionary War.
In a historical feature published May 29, 2026, the Department of War acknowledged the essential contributions of private gunsmiths who supplied the Continental Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and colonial militias with firearms. |

Delaware sued Glock Thursday claiming the company failed to take measures to prevent criminals from illegally adding a component that enable the company’s guns to fire in fully-automatic, but conceded the company didn’t make illegal switches.
Several states have targeted the company’s popular semiautomatic pistols, either trying to prohibit future sales of the handgun or suing the company, claiming that it is too easy to convert the ubiquitous guns into fully-automatic firearms. |
