John Longnecker: The Empty Holster Protest: What America Didn't See Is What's Newsworthy

"Peter Hamm, spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, contended in a Fox News report that self-defense advocates have no business on college campuses."

Hamm should know by now that his organization cannot prevent violence. The anti-violence movement is a boondoggle.

"This was the week for the Empty Handgun Holster Protest, where college students wore their holsters to demonstrate several highlights about armed self-defense as the optimal answer to school shootings."

"The Empty Holster protest shows ... that person has a civil right to be armed wherever he/she goes, and no one else really has anything to say about it, least of all organizations seeking to dismantle a civil right." ...

"So the most recent arrest wasn't enough for Snuffy Pfleger, who was at it again in front of a local gun shop."

"Protesters were back at a south suburban gun store on Saturday to rally for gun control while the march's organizers defiantly refused to pay Riverdale police for a permit.

"Organizers said the fee was excessive." ...
"So they refuse to pay fees, while Snuffy claims he and his misanthropic, fascist band of freaks are there to 'peaceably' assemble." ...

"What I said to Mayor White goes double for you:"

"I wonder what these constituents would say if they were provided the truth about the racist origins and continued discriminatory application of the gun control measures you promulgate? Have you told them about the Slave Codes, that would allow a black man to be whipped (or worse) for possession of any kind of weapon? Or the post-Civil War Black Codes, designed to keep the newly emancipated from obtaining the means of defense during the heyday of Klan terror?" ...

"The NRA-ILA Grass Roots Division has issued a statement concerning the ATF's attack on the firearms industry. I was pleased to see the following:"

"Others in the pro-gun grassroots community have reported on this issue, including Ryan Horsley of Red's Trading Post, and numerous other bloggers. Working together, it is our hope that we can continue our mutual efforts to reform BATFE once and for all to reduce and eliminate unjust harassment of legitimate gun dealers."

"So I want to further encourage all of you that you are making a difference, my blog started out just to give some insight into what a firearms dealer endures in this process, hopefully I pray that changes will be made and other dealers will not have to go through this."

"It turns out that Washington might soon be giving an arm of the United Nations jurisdiction over the import, export, and oceanic transport of GUNS and AMMUNITION." ...

"The Senate Foreign Relations committee will soon be debating the ratification of ... LOST (Law of the Sea Treaty). ..." ...

"But, even more frightening, Article 88 of the treaty stipulates that the high seas are 'reserved' for peaceful purposes. ..."

"What does this mean? It clearly doesn't mean that the U.S. or any other country is going to shut down its navy. But, on the other hand, it would be foolish to assume that the UN will not eventually try to use this provision to prohibit the oceanic transport of all firearms and ammunition -- except, of course, for guns and ammo bound for murderous dictators." ...

"Amazing that the first movies parents took their tots to in the 30s and 40s were the early Disney features. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Dumbo all exploited childhood traumas. Parents disappear or die; stepmothers plot the murder of their charges; a boy skips school and turns into a donkey. Kids were so frightened by these films that they wet themselves in terror. Bambi, directed by David Hand, has a primal shock that still haunts oldsters who saw it 40, 50, 65 years ago."

"The Indiana Court of Appeals today issued a ruling that will allow the city of Gary's frivolous lawsuit against 16 firearm manufacturers, including Smith & Wesson, Colt, Browning, Sturm, Ruger & Co. and Beretta, to proceed despite a federal law that prohibits such suits."

"Today's decision is extremely disappointing because the court failed to properly apply a federal law as Congress intended. 'Gary's frivolous lawsuit is the poster child for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act,' said Lawrence G. Keane, senior vice president and general counsel of the [NSSF] ... "Guns save lives every day. People who own guns can use them to protect themselves and their loved ones from harm. ... People that carry a gun feel more comfortable and secure."

"A common belief among anti-gun circles is that guns are simply too dangerous to have in our society. "... the method of enforcing the law exemplified by this search is one which not only violates legal rights of defendant but is certain to involve the police in grave troubles if continued. . . . Many home-owners in this crime-beset city [Washington D.C.] doubtless are armed. When a woman sees a strange man, in plain clothes, prying up her bedroom window and climbing in, her natural impulse would be to shoot. . . . But an officer seeing a gun being drawn on him might shoot first. . . . I have no reluctance in condemning as unconstitutional a method of law enforcement so reckless and so fraught with danger and discredit to the law enforcement agencies themselves..."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Fine Gael is claiming that the Gardai are not being properly equipped to tackle rising gun crime in Ireland.

Party spokesman Denis Naughten says official figures show that the number of officers authorised to carry firearms has actually fallen by more than 10% in the past five years.

He also says the Gardai do not have access to a dedicated firearms training range and have to use unsuitable army facilities.

Mr Naughten says this results from a legacy of persistent under-resourcing that has left Gardai ill-equipped to deal with gun crime and gangland criminals.
