"In a few weeks, I am going to attend a Great Conversations program ... The assignment I received today is to lead a discussion about 'The Next American Constitution.' I need your help." ...

"The Second Amendment. I know we live in gun country (at the start of hunting season) and I am not, I repeat, not a gun critic. But given the almost incredible development in weapons technology since 1787, it might be useful to debate and clarify our national attitude toward gun access. ... At some point, technological developments represent a difference no longer of degree but of kind. It might be interesting to decide how the country really feels about guns as the 21st century begins. And where are our militias?" ...

"Recently JPFO received a letter from a gun-owning college professor ... He has been showing our award-winning DVD, _Innocents Betrayed_ ( http://www.innocentsbetrayed.com ) to his students each semester. More than one student has dramatically changed their view on firearm ownership as a result."

"We'd like to encourage all our supporters -- in fact, ANY supporter of firearms ownership -- to follow Dr. Edgens' example and use this film to educate gun-haters, gun-owners, and everyone in between about the deadly downside of 'gun control'."

"A few days later, we received an email from another teacher ... praising us for posting the preamble to the Bill of Rights ( http://www.jpfo.org/billrights.htm ) on our website ..." ...

"Henry Repeating Arms is manufacturing a new and improved version of the famous U.S. Air Force AR-7, now known as the Henry U.S. Survival rifle. This compact and lightweight sportsman’s rifle is ideal for all outdoorsmen, including campers, backpackers, hunters, fishermen, boat owners and target shooters. And it can still serve its original purpose as a survival rifle for pilots."

"The Henry U.S. Survival rifle is ultra-lightweight, weighing in at a scant 2.5 pounds. The unique design allows the rifle to break down easily into three pieces in seconds. This enables the barrel, action and two 8-round magazines to fit comfortably into the tough ABS synthetic waterproof stock. No tools are needed ..." ...

... "The Glock 17 has become very popular because of its simple controls, high durability, and moderate price. It is also reported to be highly reliable in extreme environments like desert, jungle, and arctic regions."

"The Glock 17 enjoys widespread use in law enforcement, but is also a very popular military, sports, and self-defense pistol. More than 50 countries use it for law enforcement or military service."

"The only extras needed for the Glock 17 are spare magazines, holsters to fit your needs and a good set of after market sites. The standard Glocks all come with a polymer front and rear site, which I have never felt as being correct for such a quality handgun." ...

Springfield Armory M6 Scout

"One gun has intrigued me for about as long as I knew of its existence: the Springfield M6 Scout. And the best chamberings for this lovely little combo gun, at least as far as I was concerned, are .22 Long Rifle over the .410 bore shotgun barrel. ... I prefer the .22lr chambering for the simple fact that it’s a very efficient, inexpensive caliber that will more than suffice for small game hunting and foraging duties...."

"But as nice as the M6 is, and despite the fact that it was designed from the ground up as a survival arm for U.S. pilots, there were a few modifications to be made that would allow it to be even more versatile and better suited to survival. Those modifications are the subject of this article." ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

A deli clerk is credited with averting a robbery in the City of Newburgh.

City Police said on Friday morning, October 5 at about 6:15 a.m., a man walked into the Star Grocery at 111 William Street, walked behind the counter and pointed a shotgun at the clerk.

The clerk grabbed the weapon, struggled with the would-be robber and pulled the shotgun away from him.

The suspect fled with another employee chasing after him. The robber got away and the employees called the police.

Police said that despite the heroism of the employees, they do not recommend that store clerks wrestle shotguns away from anyone committing a robbery. “This could have very easily been another homicide had the gun been loaded and gone off,” said Lt. Charles Broe, Sr.

"In a spate of common sense, the MTSU’s Student Government Association rejected the notion that guns on campus would keep students safer." ...

"The resolution asked the university’s administration to lobby Tennessee’s General Assembly or Board of Regents to repeal laws and policies that make carrying guns on MTSU’s campus illegal."

"The student leaders rightfully determined armed students would be no guarantee that, should a situation like Virginia Tech occur, students or faculty could stop such a massacre."

"Also, when police respond to such a disturbance on campus, how can they determine where the real threat is, if everyone is carrying a gun?" ...

"An anchor has been attached to a proposal in the U.S. Senate that will slow down progress on the plan that could be used to permanently remove a person's right to own a gun in the United States, according to an organization opposing the measure."

"Eric Pratt, a spokesman for Gun Owners of America, told WND that Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., has attached a 'hold' to the plan, H.R. 2640, dubbed the 'Veterans Disarmament Act,' which means that while the bill remains alive, its advance will be delayed considerably."

"Pratt's group earlier launched a campaign encouraging citizens to call their U.S. senators and ask them to oppose the bill that could be described as 'disarmament by diagnosis.'" ...

"The nation’s first new firearms law in more than a decade, born of the shooting deaths at Virginia Tech, is being blocked in the Senate by a single lawmaker who says it costs too much."

"The bill, which has passed the House on a voice vote, has bipartisan backing and the National Rifle Association’s support. It is designed to improve the federal system for checking gun buyers’ mental health history in order to block purchases by those diagnosed as mentally ill."

"The lawmaker who put the hold on the bill, Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., contends that the bill would create 'a pathway by which individuals can lose their Second Amendment rights but no pathway through which they can gain them back if they’re stable.'" ...

Officer James Kellett knows it's his job to serve and protect -- even when it comes to nature's stinky black and white creatures.
When a skunk with its head stuck in a salad dressing jar wandered into the Carrollton Township police station's parking lot, he grabbed a pellet gun and shot at the jar from about 40 feet away.
The shots cracked and shattered the jar, leaving a glass collar around the skunk's neck. With its head free, the skunk ran off.
'I didn't want to use deadly force, and it is a residential area,' Kellett told The Saginaw News. 'The way he was when he took off, he was able to eat, breathe and spray -- and do anything else skunks like to do.'"Officer James Kellett knows it's job to serve and protect -- even when it comes to nature's stinky black and white creatures."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero (42B.C)
