Why New York Times’ Columnist Joe Nocera Thinks It’s OK to Infringe on Your RKBA, And What You Can Do About It

"New York Times columnist Joe Nocera jumped on Guns & Ammo-gate lickety-split. Duh. Joe is the Gray Lady’s leading proponent of civilian disarmament, through his own personal context-free zone (Gun Report) and regular editorials. Joe starts this morning’s anti-gun piece When a Gun Advocate Dissents with a simple statement: 'It’s not as if Dick Metcalf was some kind of gun control fanatic.' You see what he did there? With one sentence Nocera paints gun rights advocates as intolerant fanatics. The rest of the polemic follows entirely predictable lines, especially this bit . . ." ...

"Those who push the cause of citizen disarmament work hard to demonize guns. They try to make the public display of arms a shameful thing, something that 'decent' people simply don’t condone. And they’ve had a considerable amount of success. As recently as the 1950s people carried rifles and shotguns in New York City without so much as a sideways glance. In liberal fascists’ version of reality, the public display of firearms is perfectly acceptable, even laudable, as long as the person with the weapon is wearing a uniform, indicating they’re an agent of the state. But trade the uniform for ordinary clothing and the that open display becomes cause for alarm because…shut up . . ." ...

... "But what the Solid Concepts achievement tells us is this: For those with the capability to conduct high quality construction using expensive manufacturing devices, creating these guns is now a reality. You know who has expensive manufacturing devices and high quality construction? Gun companies. Getting freaked out by this would be like stumbling into a room at the Glock factory that's mass producing weapons and then fearing that, soon, every kid on every block would be operating gun factories in their basements. This does not scale down." ...

"Many of the gun prohibitionists who fear the death of 'gun control' via technology like 3-D printing, which will allow any aspiring armed citizen to bypass laws restricting his purchase of guns by instead simply producing them himself in his own home, have clung to one thin reed of hope. So far, the printed guns have been made of plastic, a material not well suited to the forces some gun parts must contend with (although that obstacle looks less and less insurmountable every day). Actually, the fact that printed guns have been made entirely (or almost so) of plastic suits their agenda in a second way." ...

"With last month's announcement the Doe Run Company will be closing its lead smelting operation in Herculaneum, Missouri in December, America will lose its last primary lead smelter (there are still some domestic secondary smelting operations, that recycle used lead, but refining lead-bearing ore into lead bullion will be a thing of the past in the U.S.). Doe Run is closing the operation because compliance with new EPA regulations would require a $100,000,000 investment--more than the company is willing to risk."

"What is it with gun control advocates? Do they not understand the entire point of the United States Constitution? Hello? It’s a document whose sole purpose is to limit the power of the federal government—so that the government doesn’t become a tyranny. Tyranny. As in a system that disarms citizens (duh) so that it can deprive them of their natural, civil and human rights. Like . . . Nazi Germany. So while while those of us who value our life and liberty mark the 75th anniversary of an incident that teaches us what happens to a disarmed populace the Boston Globe 'celebrates' the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination with a call for universal background checks. "There’s many reasons why I don’t like the people behind the gun control movement, even on a personal level. But one of the biggest reasons is that they don’t accept any criticism or opposition to their position. Their beliefs are the right and true ones, and any argument to the contrary is regarded as a personal betrayal and instantly banished. In order to try and understand the other side and see if they ever make a good point (hint: still waiting), I’m a member of many gun control advocacy forums — just lurking in the background, watching. One ... failed to get off the ground. ... Their rules mimic the majority of other gun control advocacy groups’ forums, and give a good insight into the way the other side thinks . . ." ...
