The 26-year-old was questioned by police Thursday, but authorities ultimately determined it to be an act of self-defense.

The store is a licensed cannabis dispensary which makes it a target according to the founder of a group representing small businesses.

An outside camera provides a strange postscript to the shooting, as a crowd gathers near the suspect lying dead in the doorway, a passerby in a grey hoodie and black vest takes Carey's gun, puts it in a bag, and walks off into the night.

The shooting may have been justified, but the gun was unregistered and so the clerk has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon. No other charges are pending.

A 21-year-old Cheyenne man who was accused of shooting up a stranger’s Chevy truck from his driveway this spring was found not guilty of assault, after a trial jury acquitted him Wednesday.

Jason Lyle Jr. was driving home the evening of April 29 through a web of dirt roads northeast of Cheyenne when he passed another vehicle – quickly.

The AR-15 was Jared Golden’s weapon of choice for self-defense. He knew how lethal the gun was, and how easy to use, from his days serving as a Marine, and he kept one in his home in Lewiston, Maine. He was confident it would keep him safe.

Then last month, a gunman used a weapon much like that one to kill 18 people and wound more than a dozen not more than a five-minute jog from the Democratic U.S. representative’s home.

Ohio voters overwhelmingly approved Issue 2 on Nov. 7, paving the way for the legalization of recreational marijuana in the state.

The law takes effect 30 days after Election Day, but it still has to go through a planning and rule-making process. Once it does take hold, gun owners should be aware of how the new law affects them before firing up that first joint.

Here are five facts you should know about your rights as a gun owner:

Is a man who uses his firearm to foil a crime a hero or a villain? According to New York City, people like John Rote, who saved a woman in a subway station by firing a warning shot to deter a robber demanding her purse, are vigilantes who deserve to be punished with potentially years in prison.

Matthew Roesch, a 49-year-old homeless man with a criminal record, demanded a woman pay him $1 for letting her through an emergency turnstile for free. When she refused, he threatened to snatch her purse.

“Time after time we have seen the FBI target President Trump, people who believe in the Second Amendment, parents attending school board meeting, and more recently, some of their own brave FBI whistleblowers who have spoken up about the weaponization of our Federal Government. We should not be awarding nefarious behavior by wasting hundreds of millions of dollars for a new headquarters in the DC-area,” Gaetz said in a press release.

“Although my amendment failed, I will continue my fight to defang and defund government agencies that have been weaponized against the American people,” he added, disappointed in his fellow House GOP lawmakers’ contribution to the ever-growing hyper-partisan police state.

It’s been said that there’s no stronger bond than one formed in a foxhole. While I’ve never been to war, I imagine that’s accurate. What is life, if not a series of battles, uphill climbs, sleepless nights, potty training, and preparing for a horrible day that you hope never comes. Since moving to Colorado, Jersey’s interest in firearms and self-defense exploded. She joined her local A Girl and A Gun chapter and found a community of like-minded women, as well as a passion she can enjoy on her own. While she does have her own journey, our path together is strong. From dry fire sessions after our hellions (not that one, Springfield Armory) go to bed, to dates at the range.

Is there anyone or anything that professional ranter, former progressive pillow company executive, and anti-gun activist David Hogg hasn’t blamed for gun crime? The NRA, predictably, has been pretty much at the top of his list (for instance, here, here, and here), but to date, the admittedly far-from-complete list also includes:

The good news is that the U.S. Supreme Court seems poised to reverse a Fifth Circuit decision that said police can’t confiscate guns from domestic abusers. The bad news is that the high court’s 2022 Bruen decision, which guided the lower court’s ruling, remains firmly in place.

Bruen is among the worst-reasoned Supreme Court decisions in recent memory. And even after the justices rule on the case currently before them, Bruen’s precedent will still be difficult for lower courts to apply given the decision’s confused logic.

The congresswoman said she has closed her office out of an abundance of caution. It follows a move by fellow Republican Rep. Arturo Carrillo, director of the George Washington University Civil and Human Rights Law Clinic, helped file the suit on Oliver's behalf, saying the United States is not above international human rights laws.

"We're in an international tribunal that can tell the United States as a nation on the globe bound by international human rights law that it must do more by its people. It must protect their right to live free from gunfire," Carrillo said.

Louisiana is likely to pass a Constituional Carry bill and enact it into law in 2024. The particulars of the bill are unknown. The 56th Governor of Louisiana is John Bel Edwards. Edwards vetoed a constitutional carry bill in June of 2021.

The next governor of Louisiana was elected on October 14, 2023. Louisiana has an unusual primary election, where all candidates are on the ballot. If one candidate obtains more than 50% of the vote in the primary, they are elected governor. On October 14, Jeff Landry (R) won the primary with 51.6% of the vote. Landry is expected to take office on January 8, 2024.

“When our agency read Bruen we knew it was only a matter of time before the analysis was applied to domestic violence,” said Bronwyn Blake, the chief legal officer of the Texas Advocacy Project, a group which provides free legal help to domestic abuse survivors. And sure enough, when Rahimi filed a lawsuit claiming that Section 922(g)(8) was now unconstitutional, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed, overturning the law last February.

O. Henry meets Kafka in the First Circuit, where an evenly divided en banc court affirms an 18-month upward variation in sentencing for a Puerto Rican man who pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a machine gun. Three judges wanted to vacate the guy's sentence under two recent circuit precedents, while another three wanted to vacate those precedents. As a result, both the precedent and the seemingly irreconcilable sentence remain, leaving all six judges only half-satisfied and the defendant uniquely screwed.

A federal appeals court on Thursday ruled that the Biden administration lacked authority to adopt a regulation aimed at reining in privately made firearms called “ghost guns” that are difficult for law enforcement to trace.

A three-judge panel of the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with a group of firearm owners, gun rights groups and manufacturers in declaring the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ 2022 rule “unlawful.”
