"It seems that as we approach the anniversary of the Sandy Hook School Shooting, the topic of Universal Background Checks is coming back around."

"As well all know, all purchases made from dealers, even at a gun show, require a background check. Some states do allow individuals to buy/sell firearms with other private individuals without a background check."

"Answer the poll questions below to let us know how you, as a gun owner feels about the issue." ...

"After every instance of a publicized shooting, the alarm to repeal the Second Amendment or to change its meaning sounds loudly from gun control advocates."

"The main fallacy here lies in the assertion that the cause of a murderous madman’s shooting spree—such as what recently happened at the Los Angeles International Airport—is a constitutional right to keep and bear arms, and not an unarmed public." ...

"As I said in my review, the Barnes 110 grain offering in 300 AAC Blackout is about as perfect as you can get for hunting. But Barnes isn’t happy with mere perfection, and they’re looking to expand their lineup in 300 BLK by adding a 120 grain flavor in addition to the existing 110. They claim it will have a better profile for improved long-range accuracy, and hopefully we’ll be able to get some here shortly to put that claim to the test. Make the jump for their presser . . ." ...

"When Winchester announced their new Long Beard XR turkey loads a couple of months back, they made a very specific claim about their latest galliform gouging shells. Thanks to their new Shot-Lok pellet packing idea, they claimed that their shot stays rounder coming out of a smoothbore than standard loose-packed loads. But they didn’t stop there. They also claimed that because of Shot-lok, Long Beard 'offers the tightest patterns and longest shot capability of any lead turkey load in history—with twice the pellets in a 10” circle out to 60 yards compared to traditional lead loads.' I’m no ammo reviewer. ... But when it comes to an easily verifiable claim like 'twice the pellets in a 10″ circle,' I’m just the idiot to give it a try." ...

Gun Review: Crosman 1377 ‘American Classic’ Air Gun

"Crosman’s 1377 'American Classic' lives up to its name. This air gun really is a classic and it probably defines the upper limit of how much shooting fun you can have for $140. I shot this one until my hands were raw and covered with lead residue, and most of the few 'issues' I could discover were so tiny they could be cured with a scrap of emery paper and a sliver of plastic shim. The gun itself is only $55; the balance of this frugal but worthwhile investment provides you a cherry-picked and chrony-tested gun from Pyramyd Air, a shoulder stock and enough pellets to last you for years of casual weekend shooting . . ." ...

"An Arlington, TX counter-rally to a Moms Demanding Action event turned into a dishonest Nov. 10, Think Progress article, completely misrepresenting the actions and attitude of the gun rights activists in attendance and what they were there to accomplish."

"It truly is impossible in the US to argue for gun control with facts and statistics. Unless they are cherry-picked or twisted to fool people into believing tighter gun regulations are the answer to any specific gun-related problem Americans may face, the numbers almost always prove the opposite of what gun control proponents are trying to achieve." ...

"Enough already. Not every situation demands that Texas open-carry defenders gather en masse, like an armed mob, to flex their muscles and show the world how tough they are. Sometimes, people need a sense of proportionality, and this is one of those times."

"If a group of moms want to gather at a restaurant and talk about gun sense, that’s not a clarion call for the radical gun-toting extremist fringe to mobilize in a show of force. It’s just a group of women talking over their enchiladas at Blue Mesa in Arlington." ...

"Our nation has now begun to reflect on the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination."

"This comes at a time when the Dec. 14, 2012, mass murder of 20 children and six adult staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., nears its first anniversary."

"Some Troy, Watervliet and Green Island residents might have noticed the Gun Depot that recently opened on lower Hudson Avenue in Green Island. The Gun Depot is hard to miss for residents traveling to and from I-787 on the way to work or school. Out front, The Gun Depot signs say, 'Firing range now open.' You can look inside and see the taxidermy and guns hanging all over the walls."

"Australia, home to some of the world’s most draconian gun control laws. Also home to 'gun crime.' While no amount of evidence [of gun control's failure to control crime] will deter the civilian disarmament industry complex from its unstated statist goals, it’s worth noting that bad guys in The Land Down Under don’t seem to have any trouble acquiring firearms. And training those guns on each other, those they wish to intimidate and, on occasion, innocent passersby. Here’s a list of recent gunpowder-related troubles in Australia’s capitol city [via news.com.au], not including the headline story about 'TWO men [who] were blasted by shotguns ...' or 287 other recorded shootings since ... "When criminals with a long history of burglary are caught in the act, the AP is very careful to call them 'alleged' burglars. When a gun owner is spotted by a hoplophobe and denounced to the local authorities, the 'alleged' adjective is nowhere to be seen."

"Here is the headline:

"The culture war between urban liberals and rural conservatives gets a hard look in today’s Seattle Times, which picked up an Associated Press story about five Colorado counties that want to break away and form their own state, and the Times initially edited out some key paragraphs with lifestyle comments that Seattle elitists, like those in Denver and everywhere, simply refuse to understand."

"These paragraphs, which have been restored in the on-line version of the story while the print version remains as is, refer to legalized marijuana and guns; two issues that Seattle and Denver liberals agree on. They like pot, and they don’t like guns." ...

"The firearms will be kept by their attorney, the report said."

"Meanwhile, the Seattle Times was running an unscientific poll in its on-line edition today that shows supporters of two Gonzaga University students who were put on probation after using a gun to defend their off-campus residence from a convicted felon last month outnumber their critics more than 3-to-1, and there is still time to weigh in." ...

"California tightly restricts gun ownership, banning purchases by ex-felons, domestic abusers, certain mental patients and others, but places virtually no limits on sales of ammunition - which, in the words of the state's police chiefs, is easier to buy than a pack of cigarettes."

"After a state lawmaker lost his concealed weapons permit for lying about a decades-old felony, some legislators are questioning the merits of a law giving elected officials an exemption from having to get a permit."

"Last month, the Ada County sheriff revoked the concealed weapons permit of Rep. Mark Patterson, R-Boise, after discovering that Patterson failed to disclose on permit applications in 2007 and again in 2012 a guilty plea and withheld judgment ... in Florida. He first applied for the permit before he was a lawmaker." ...

"I hope and pray you don't proceed with an ordinance allowing the police to go into law-abiding gun owners’ homes to do safety checks under the Massachusetts State Law. This will fail for two simple reasons."

"Number one: Police need a warrant to enter a person's home and must for any search have probable cause to get the warrant from a judge. Simply being a gun owner is not probable cause for a warrant and any such intrusion into a civilians home would be a Fourth Amendment violation."

"The jump in Newtown, where 20 first-graders and six women were shot and killed on Dec. 14, mirrors a statewide increase in the months following the shooting and as the legislature was debating tougher gun-control legislation."

"Newtown residents applied for 183 permits from January through May of this year, a 110 percent increase from the same period last year. Newtown residents applied for 87 permits during those months in 2012. Connecticut towns award temporary permits. The state then awards the full permit." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The "assault weapon" ban didn't stop the [World Trade Center/Pentagon] terrorists, Brady checks didn't stop them, the high capacity magazine ban didn't. Right to Carry would have. If it had saved only one tower and the people in it, it would have been worth it. GUN CONTROL KILLS. — LTC Stasski, 9/11/01
