Love or what is perceived as love, can be complicated and at times a hot mess of drama leading to violence.

A 30-year-old California man learned the hard way that harassing an ex-girlfriend, threatening bodily harm to her boyfriend, and wielding a knife has dire consequences. Fortunately, for the perpetrator, the incident did not cost him his life.

A central New York church made headlines over the weekend by posting a sign out front that warns would-be mass shooters, “We say it again, we are not a gun free zone.”

This came one week after the attack in Sutherland Springs, Texas that left 26 church goers, including small children, dead at the hands of a killer who had been drummed out of the Air Force with a domestic violence assault conviction on his record. He was a person who, by law, should not have been allowed to purchase firearms. The Pentagon has launched an investigation into the matter.

When you read about terrorists killing thousands of innocent people you may wonder how the wrongdoers could sleep at night, knowing what they had done. Yet those who survived what usually were suicide missions, had been so radicalized by their leaders that they were proud of the killings done in the name of their faith. Their actions remind me of the Japanese Kamikaze pilots who flew airplanes into allied ships during World War II and were willing to die for their cause.

A Jeffersontown High School student is facing criminal charges after police said he hid stolen guns in his bedroom. The commander of the Louisville Metro Police Department’s 7th Division said the 17-year-old admitted to detectives he had stolen the weapons from cars. “Just because a juvenile is a student or under the age of 18, doesn’t mean they cannot be a criminal, or that they cannot be dangerous,” Maj. Kim Burbrink said. “He was looking for vehicles that were unlocked or that he could enter easily. He was taking the weapons from unlocked vehicles in the area.”

When he ran for president last year, Donald Trump said we didn't need any new laws restricting guns. Instead, we should simply enforce laws already on the books. "We need to fix the system we have and make it work as intended," Trump's campaign website said. "What we don't need to do is expand a broken system."

Texas Sen. John Cornyn said Sunday he'll introduce legislation to stop to "fix this broken background check system" after he attended the first Sunday service after the Texas church shooting. Police said the gunman, Davin Kelley, entered the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs last week and opened fire on parishioners. The shooter killed 26 people. Cornyn attended a closed-door service and spoke to reporters during. His comments eventually turned to the gunman, Kelley, and the lapses that allowed him to buy several guns over the next few years, including some that were outlined in the New York Times yesterday morning regarding Kelley's time in the Air Force.

At 6:54 a.m. on Wednesday, the regular firearm season for white-tailed deer opens in Monroe, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties, and the rest of the eastern portion of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Exactly six minutes later, the season opens in Lenawee, Hillsdale, and Jackson counties, and the center of the state. In the western edge of Michigan, excluding a chunk of the Upper Peninsula, the season opens after six more minutes tick off the clock. In the extreme western end of the U.P., the deer firearm season will open 18 minutes after those hunters in Monroe County have fired the first rounds.

It's Time for Concealed Carry Reciprocity

What if I told you that the Federal Government is not doing enough to impose laws on individual states? Probably you would give me the well-rehearsed and sound arguments for limiting Federal power, and further reductions in the size of the State. However, there is one – and perhaps only one – area in which Federal action is much needed: Concealed Carry reciprocity. At the moment, there is an absurd patchwork of state-level laws covering the right to carry a concealed weapon, and responsible gun owners often accidentally commit crimes by traveling across state lines with their concealed weapon.

After missing his flight to Georgia for a hunting trip last month, retired Kent County judge Steven Servaas demanded he be reimbursed for his loss.

But this was no ordinary refund request.

Servaas wrote Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Administrator David Pekoske, asking the federal agency cut him a $1,000 check.

Servaas' gripe? That a TSA agent at Gerald R. Ford International Airport rejected the case containing a hunting rifle he planned to check with the rest of his baggage.

Williams Gun Sight is set to grow even larger just months after its first expansion in more than 50 years on its 10-acre Genesee County campus.

The 90-year-old business embarked on a $1.5 million project in October to add 9,000 square feet to its existing manufacturing facility and 1,000 square feet for offices along Lapeer Road in Davison Township.

Brian Wright, marketing manager for Williams Gun Sight, said the expansion will accompany the 3,500 square feet of manufacturing space that's been operating for more than 50 years.

"It's something we've always had in the back of our head," Wright said. "We always thought we needed more room for our sight manufacturing."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The gun-control movement is driven by raw emotion. Facts are irrelevant. Logic is spurned. Utter nonsense is solemnly intoned. It's little wonder that our most emotive president has made gun control his signature domestic issue. — Don Feder
