"We don’t want dangerous dogs that are a living threat to children regulated." ...

"We want these four-legged devils banned from our city, period."

"By nature, Pit Bulls, Dobermans, Rottweilers and Chows are aggressive animals. If 'responsible' owners can’t keep a grip on these beasts, why should an innocent child, or an elderly person, or a handicapped person, or even someone else’s properly domesticated pet, fall victim to the teeth and viciousness of these blood salivating mongrels?"

"Ban them." ...

"WE BAN CERTAIN TYPES OF GUNS—AUTOMATIC WEAPONS—FROM THE PUBLIC. GET CAUGHT WITH ONE, YOU GET ARRESTED BECAUSE OF THE DANGEROUS MASS DESTRUCTION OF SUCH A WEAPON."

"If you’re a collector, and say you have the right to collect such weapons, we say no you don’t."

"Collect pictures of automatic weapons. It’s much safer and far less noisy."

"Same with these dangerous dogs."

"Guns don't kill people, people kill people."

"That's what those who oppose gun control legislation say, and I'm beginning to think we ought to take them seriously." ...

"...There are lots of Hmong people around and they've been here for decades now. I don't recall any previous incident of a Hmong person shooting someone who ordered him off private land. We don't know exactly what happened in Sawyer County, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the Hmong culture as a whole." ...

"Nor is the rifle relevant. The Internet sites - many of them posted years ago - frequently mention using the SKS for deer hunting (they say it's acceptable at close range but not good for longer range hunting). There's no reason to believe Vang bought the gun in order to cause mayhem."

"But there is one factor that is relevant, I think. It's that, in St. Paul, Vang previously caused a gun disturbance. Police say he brandished a handgun during a family dispute three years ago and that he was involved in other family disturbance calls. No charges were filed in connection with the incidents."

"Halbrook has some interesting arguments that show up here for the first time in the case as far as I can tell. It's a much better brief than the arguments in his complaint. This is not unexpected, according to my theory of the case, as he was expecting to lose on standing issues at the District Court. Once the District Court reached the merits of the 2nd Amendment unfavorably, however, he must argue more in earnest in hopes of convincing the appeals court to undo some of the damage."

"Also consistent with this theory, Halbrook's arguments on the standing issue remain weak. I suspect his optimal outcome at this point would be for the District Court to rule that the whole case should have been dismissed for lack of standing, thus overturning the 2nd Amendment portions of the ruling, or else to moderate that ruling. Halbrook basically argues that the plaintiffs are forced to choose between vulnerability to criminals and violating the law; the problem is that they ignored the third option (to attempt to register their firearms and pursue that process)."

"It's not inconceivable that the court would agree with his arguments and grant standing, but I suspect the appeals court will prefer to defer to the legislative process in this case. Quite simply, it lets them duck the issue."

POLICE entering courts will be screened for weapons to keep unnecessary guns out of courtrooms.

Several gangland and police corruption cases are due in court soon.

Officers with guns and equipment such as batons and capsicum spray will be checked and asked to explain the need for them in court. If there is no need, the weapons will be lodged either with the protective security officers or at the County Court.

The new measures include the Supreme, County, Magistrates' and Children's Courts.

Sources said that while the upgrade was timely and professional, it would also stop anyone trying to pose as a police officer to smuggle a gun inside.
