"SALT LAKE CITY Utah's Wildlife Board wants to lift or change age restrictions for youth hunting."

"The board approved a proposal this week eliminates the age restriction for hunting small game and reduces the minimum age restrictions for hunting big game from age 14 to age 12."

"The decision follows a survey of less-restrictive hunting laws in surrounding states. The survey showed lowering the legal age for hunting did not increase accidents or fatalities among hunters."

"The changes must be approved by the Legislature."

"Jones learned about a month before the village did that he was the 2005 recipient of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence's Law Enforcement Recognition Award for his efforts to reduce gun violence in Illinois and across the country, but he kept mum." ...

"Jones was recognized by the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence for being a strong advocate for gun control. In 2004, he led the effort among Illinois police chiefs in working for renewal of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban. In 2005, Jones fought to preserve the state's database of gun purchase records."

"'I am not anti-gun,' Jones said. 'I am pro-common sense.'"

"Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty says he doesn't think gangsta rappers like 50 Cent can be blamed for the deadly gunplay on the streets of Toronto this year."

"McGuinty says he "wouldn't want to put too much stock" in 50 Cent's influence and that of other rappers even if they do hold some sway with young people. He says the causes of Toronto's gun violence are much more complex than anything one rapper can influence."

"Did you even for a moment consider "American Christians" as a primary danger to Jews? JPFO would never even imagine it."

"Leave it to Abe Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), to lash out against evangelical Christians in America. That's right - Foxman is raising money from his loyal supporters on the pretext that such Christians pose a serious threat to American Jews."

"Unsurprisingly, Foxman and the ADL are strongly anti-rights, and support the most prohibitive of 'gun control' regimes. The ADL routinely aligns itself with the heavily statist, socialist, big government forces on the political Left. ..."

"...if you have the right to be where you are, and you are attacked, it is reasonable to believe that the person attacking you means you harm, and you have the right to protect yourself. If these two conditions are met, you can defend yourself with force, and if you kill the predator, his family cannot continue the assault by suing you for wrongful death. Florida law has become common sense: all resulting consequences reside with the attacker."

"Seems pretty common sense, to me. Robert A. Heinlein once wrote, 'An armed society is a polite society.' One is always free to choose between Heinlein’s reality or Brady’s illusion."

"Dominick Sergio Maldonado, accused of shooting six people and taking hostages in the Tacoma Mall on Sunday, slipped through the cracks in gun laws to get the two weapons he used in his rampage."

"His attorney said Wednesday that Maldonado, 20, told him he got the weapons through a newspaper ad and a trade with a neighbor. Laws requiring background checks don't cover such private transactions. That's a loophole that gun-control advocates say ought to be closed, but supporters of gun rights say a better solution is keeping people such as Maldonado, who has a long criminal record, under close supervision."

UK: Getting tough on crime

"As always, the Prime Minister found precisely the right words to reflect the sense of anger felt by the whole country towards those armed robbers who shot dead the mother-of-three last Friday as she answered a 999 call in Bradford. However, Mr Blair's words will bring far greater comfort to all those who knew WPC Beshenivsky, and the public at large, if he actually delivers on his latest promise to 'get tough' on gun crime."

"For, given how firearm offences have more than doubled since Labour came to power with its much-vaunted crime-cutting agenda, this is an issue which has been allowed to become so serious that it will require far more than well-meaning Prime Ministerial platitudes to tackle effectively."

"A senior at Cambridge High School who had a toy gun in the school parking lot is fighting his 10-day suspension from school and yearlong suspension from activities with a federal lawsuit."

"The student, identified as A.C., and his parents, Mark and Julie Carlson, say in court documents that the gun was 'clearly a toy gun, not a look-a-like weapon' and that the discipline called for in the student handbook was for the gun to be taken away."

"The punishment handed down was 'arbitrary and capricious' and was an 'abuse of discretion,' the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Rock Island, states."

"A loaded magazine with .223-caliber bullets is found hidden in a school, and the local police chief's response is to opt not to pursue charges against any of the juveniles."

"This is why we have issues in this country surrounding firearms. We do not apply the punishment when there is wrongdoing. If a student or teacher gets shot at school, there is an outcry to ban firearms, ban ammunition, take away the Second Amendment right to bear arms, but what do we do to deter such tragic activity?"

"Accepting the mythology that guns cause murder, areas with high violence rates ban guns. But violence stems from basic social factors, not the mere availability of one among the innumerable deadly instruments in the world. In a study published last December, the National Academy of Sciences, having reviewed 43 government publications, 253 journal articles, 99 books, and its own research, could not identify even one example of gun control that reduced murder or violent crime." ...

"Anti-gun advocacy is built on decades of erroneous claims that the United States, with the world's highest gun ownership rate (true), has the highest murder rate (false). ..."

"This shocking murder that really should not be that shocking in today’s Toronto produced the usual rounds of promised summits and anti-gun rallies. While these rallies undoubtedly make the organizers and participants feel like they are doing something, neither the rallies nor the summits will do anything to prevent the deaths of those young, mainly black males who, if they live to see Christmas will be celebrating their last."

"The harsh reality is that there is simply no political will on the part of any level of government to take steps to combat the violent crime on our streets."

"This latest cop killing - the first British female officer to be killed in the line of duty in four years - renewed calls for police to be better protected including allowing them to carry sidearms. This is a controversial issue in Britain, especially in London. This latest cop-killing highlights the rampant use of firearms by criminals in spite of some of the world's toughest gun control laws. Britain always prided itself in not needing armed law enforcement officers to patrol the streets and maintain the peace."

"My experiences inspired me to produce the series we're airing TONIGHT ON NEWS CHANNEL 3 AT 5, 6 & 10. We call it "Get Your Gun" because we wanted to reach those of you who are considering for the first time -- like me -- to arm yourself. Through our production of this series, I have developed an enormous respect for firearms, the experts who use them and our Second Amendment right as Americans to bear them. I am convinced that if more of us had a healthy respect for guns; if more of us as citizens knew HOW to use them, WHEN to use them, WHERE to secure them; and if more law-abiding citizens properly CARRIED the appropriate handgun, crime would not be as much of a problem. ..."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Thanks to the government’s past record, it is unfortunately very predictable that, in spite of the severe penalties mandated, tens of thousands of people will not comply at all (with Bill C-68). A new class of criminal will be created among harmless citizens whose previous lawbreaking may have resulted in nothing more than parking tickets. — Lee Morrison, Canadian Mounted Police
