The biggest shopping day of the year is also one of the biggest day for gun stores.
Gun shops are offering Black Friday deals to boost slumping sales. This morning inside discount firearms and ammo, dozens lined up for the black Friday deals.
"By the time we open the door it was probably close to 60 to 70 people." general manager, Anthony Scott, says the store opened at around 9 and by 10 o clock their Black Friday gun deals were all sold out. |

Alamogordo-based Thrive in Southern New Mexico dropped the United Way name and affiliation earlier this year after its local firearms raffle was thrust into the national debate over access to guns.
Thrive still describes itself as the leading fundraising organization for local nonprofits in a rural, two-county area. Executive Director Stephanie Hale said the reorganization is keeping more funds in the local community that previously went to the United Way, and that the firearms raffle this year should pay for her group’s annual operating expenses. |

The NRA can’t say I never did anything for them. Back in 2015, I offered the perfect comeback for whenever anyone questions why a private citizen might need a military-style assault rifle. (“Demagogues doubling down,” Dec. 27, 2015). “Reason not the need!” Shakespeare’s King Lear thunders when his daughters question why a retired king — dependent upon their hospitality — would need a retinue of 100 knights and squires. |

According to respected criminologist Frederic Lemieux of George Washington University, from 1983 to 2013, statistics show that while the United States had the highest number of guns per inhabitants (88.8 per 100) and 78 mass murders, Finland came in third with 45.3 guns per 100 inhabitants and two mass murders. So, how do we respect our current interpretation of the Second Amendment while also living peacefully? Maybe the Finns could show us the way. |

A nationwide trend that has seen gun sales drop this year, apparently is not impacting weapons used by people who want a gun to defend themselves.
In Flower Mound, Crossfire Defense Academy and Range held its grand opening on Black Friday. Owner David Vaught says in light of recent mass shootings, the market for self defense-type weapons is strong.
"For the last couple of years, in the shooting industry, the self-defense market has been growing," said Vaught. |

So what is “unlawful activity” under the statute? Would it include for example in a carjacking case not having current tags, an insurance card or even a valid driver’s license? If you are at home, would “unlawful activity” include perhaps code violations that are “unlawful” such as perhaps having your grass be too tall in Nashville or parking on the grass rather than in a driveway? The Court acknowledged but found it unnecessary to determine in this case whether there has to be a relationship between the unlawful activity and the self-defense claim: |

Today, 45 states allow open-carry under various regulations. Many states allow essentially unfettered concealed-carry. There is no link to increased violence by legally carrying people in these jurisdictions.
To postulate that legal firearm-carrying people are a threat is not borne out by the facts and is insulting. The criminally oriented among us are already carrying firearms, and ignore current law. |

Way back in history, one of Smith & Wesson’s classic revolver designs was the 38 Special M&P (Military & Police), a bare-bones, no-nonsense version of the company’s Model 10 that was intended for military and police use in the early 20th century.
The model eventually was cast aside but nearly 100 years later, Smith & Wesson returned the model name to its lineup in the form of a short-recoil, polymer framed, striker fired pistol with a stainless steel chassis that is quickly becoming the company’s mainstay with regard to semi auto pistols. |

You’d think that most of the cyber Monday deals would be on tech like phones, GPS, or God help us all, Fidget Spinners. There are plenty of all the above from a great deal of websites, but there’s also some great deals for those whose idea of a good time is mucking out at 4am, rifle slinged on their back and the majesty of nature before them. There are also some fantastic deals for those that want to gift themselves some security and peace of mind this holiday season. Here, we take a look at the top Cyber Monday deals for guns, ammo and gun accessories. |

Shooting privileges should be a state function as it is for cars. But gun carry restrictions seem best handled by combining local and zoning restrictions to cover residential, business, school, farming and open country. Rural areas would default to conceal and carry with limited restrictions. Urban areas would limit conceal and carry by default. Restrictions would be defined at the municipality level.
By merging gun control with the existing vehicle registration system, Missouri would be able to feed data to all 50 states forming a single car/gun database. The yearly process would include the registration of all personal property, including purchase, sale, and theft or confiscation. |

These are automatic rifles that fire dozens of rounds before requiring reloading. How long will the NRA shirk its responsibility to support legislation that sets reasonable limits on (A) who can legally own firearms and (B) which firearms pose too great a risk of harming or killing Americans and, therefore, must be controlled or banned for the safety of all? What could possibly motivate that influential organization to continue with its present philosophy and lobbying to Congress? Surely people don’t have to be told the answer to that question! It is money.
I have personally chosen not to join the NRA because of their rigid stance that perpetuates this needless killing. |

Last month, Stephen Paddock committed the largest single massacre, but not the last mass killing in the United States’ recent history. Using a repeater rifle he fired many rounds of ammunition into a crowd of concert-goers for approximately 10 minutes. The death toll was 59 people, including his own suicide, and he injured 527.
As usual, U.S. citizens are at a loss to explain the motives of murderers or to know how to defend themselves from such recurring massacres.
It would be clear to Americans that selling guns to children would be an unethical practice. Rational people agree children would not be able to judge how deadly guns can be. They do not have sufficient maturity to use guns safely. |

As to self-defense, if he did any research at all, then he knows that people frequently defend themselves and their families with firearms. Can they prevent all such attacks? No, but preventing some is a life saver. Not fallacy, Mr. Stills, reality.
I am disappointed that the Reporter would print such a piece of trash. But, then, I guess we get what we pay for. |

The annual two week season for hunting sika and white-tailed deer with firearms in Maryland begins Saturday and runs until the second weekend in December.
The number of deer hunters are allowed to kill is limited by state rules, which are generally tighter in the far Western part Maryland.
“The two-week firearms season is our most popular hunting opportunity in the state,” Paul Peditto, an official with the Department of Natural Resources said in a statement. |
