Sootch00 makes a pretty good argument for the top five essentials you need for a fighting rifle.

--1,000 rounds of ammunition (bare minimum, more is always better).
--A least 6 quality spare magazines (plus one in the gun).
--A quality sling. [A simple two-point G.I. web sling, rigged and used properly, is an accuracy enhancer. -ed.]
--Optics. The military has good almost completely to optics because they dramatically increase your hit probability.
--back-up irons sights (BUIS).

Walker, who called the signs "provocative," was notified Tuesday of the reinstallation, and he said he plans to file a complaint with the Office of the Texas Attorney General. Walker said the zoo's argument is flimsy because there is no curriculum, accreditation, or the ability to obtain a degree at the zoo.

"This is clearly an act of desperation. They are hanging their hat on being an educational institution," Walker said.

The dark web may be known as an online marketplace for the purchase and distribution of illicit drugs, but it is also home to something far more sinister.

With a digital wallet of bitcoin and a quick search of the dark web, someone could easily attempt to have an authentic AK-47 shipped directly to their door.

A recent analysis of the darknet from Vocativ discovered 281 listings of guns and ammunition across the dark web.

Even more concerning was the type of weapons readily available which included 16 submachine and machine guns, 12 sniper rifles and 40 assault rifles.

"Black Friday" shopping isn't just limited to retail stores and malls any more.

It's now a big day for gun sales nationwide.

Stores like Spring Hill Rod and Gun in Charleston are offering items on sale Friday.

The owner said it's become a popular shopping day in just the past few years for hunters and collectors alike.

Scams and Undercover Cops Are Denting the Dark Web Gun Trade

With just a couple of clicks and a fistful of bitcoins, it's trivial to buy an AK-47 or a pistol on the dark web. At least, that's the idea presented when casually scrolling through the digital shelves of online markets.

But the reality is that sourcing a weapon from the dark web can actually be fairly difficult—so much so that several markets have stopped stocking weapons altogether.

One impetus for that is the heavy presence of scammers, who create fake accounts to dupe gullible gun hunters out of their money.

CA: Should these agents even have guns?

The Steinle family is suing the Bureau of Land Management, among others. Supervisor David Campos has introduced a measure that would make it a misdemeanor to leave an unlocked gun in a car. I want to learn more about the pros and cons of how the law would work. Meanwhile I sure endorse the sentiment.

I want to add one more thought. Let’s say that maybe five years ago it wasn’t a totally bonehead move for cops to leave unlocked guns in cars. It is now. Read a newspaper, people. In San Francisco, car boosting is up 47 percent. Anyone in law enforcement foolish enough to leave a gun in a car probably doesn’t have enough common sense to carry a loaded weapon.

It makes no sense that people with known affiliation to terror organizations can be barred from flying on a commercial airliner but can walk into any gun store in the United States and purchase weapons.

The Government Accountability Office found between February 2004 and December 2014, people on the consolidated terrorist watch list attempted to purchase firearms or explosives 2,233 times and successfully cleared a background check 91 percent of the time, according to The Washington Post.

Just sitting here wondering what the gun-happy, scared-of-their-own-government people might do if their government tells them that laws have to be passed to try and prevent guns from getting in the hands of a terrorist. Every time the government mentions passing laws making it harder for the mentally ill to get a gun, the NRA and the gun manufactures spend millions of dollars playing on the fearful convincing them into believing their government is coming after everybody’s guns. Some of the same laws to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill would have to be passed to keep guns out of the hands of a terrorist — be they domestic or foreign.

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals flashing before consumers’ eyes, anyone who is around firearms should consider taking advantage of a special deal that Public Health – Seattle and King County has struck with some gun retailers through the end of December.

Shoppers can receive 10 to 15 percent off gun-storage devices and lockboxes by mentioning “Public Health” or “LOK-IT-UP” at participating retailers.

This is a pragmatic approach to helping solve a public health and safety crisis.

It would be easy to mistake the men as some sort of army assault team – their uniforms and equipment look almost identical.

But these men are not in the military, and nor are they armed with real guns; they are in fact using toy BB guns – albeit almost indistinguishable from their real counterparts – which fire plastic pellets.

The sport the men are playing is airsoft and it’s one that is gathering a growing fanbase in Portsmouth, with hundreds of people taking part each weekend.

Gun control activists say Cornyn's language allows for patients’ gun rights to be restored immediately upon their release from involuntary treatment. In addition, they say it narrows the definition of who is actually prohibited from buying a gun.

Cornyn's measure expands upon a grant program that gives incentives to states that share mental health records with the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, known as NICS. The goal is to prevent anyone who has been adjudicated by a court as mentally ill from buying a gun.

On its website, the NRA says Cornyn’s bill would “protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens from continued bureaucratic abuse by the Obama Administration.”

CA: Trump would protect guns before people

“The Constitution of the United States is clear,” Trump said in a statement to the Post. “The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Period. … Through the process of national gun registering, lawful gun owners will have their privacy invaded and will place information in the hands of government officials that could be easily abused.”

So the Second Amendment trumps safety and security concerns when it comes to registering guns but singling out certain Americans and refugees because of their religion for tracking and spying on houses of worship doesn’t raise any First Amendment issues? Does he believe a religious-based registry could never lend itself to any kind of abuse?

Hearing that a homeless man is in possession of machine guns isn't something that sounds typical for police to encounter.

A man in California was discovered with a cache of machine guns by police while they were inspecting a homeless camp he was a part of. Los Angeles County authorities arrested the man on multiple weapons violations over the weekend when they uncovered the guns. He had five firearms, with two of them being “operable World War II-era” machine guns, Fox News reports.

University students in Kansas are starting to talk about a day in the not-too-distant future when anyone over 21 who legally owns a gun will be allowed to carry it onto campuses.

Many who grew up in the largely rural state are comfortable with the idea, while others say allowing a bunch of people to roam freely among the student body with guns will be an absolute disaster. A third group doesn’t necessarily oppose concealed carry but is concerned about the lack of a training requirement, The Wichita Eagle reported.

Brian says they are expecting more reports as more people begin carrying guns openly.

"We're training dispatch, we're training officers, on how to deal and assess the situation. Whether it's over the telephone or right there face to face," Brian said.

Brian says now when dispatchers take calls, they have a whole new set of questions to ask.

"How is that person acting? Are they acting out of the ordinary or are they acting pretty nonchalant about carrying their weapon," Brian said.

Brian says dispatchers are often the first line of defense. So it’s vital they are equipped to asses each situation as well as possible and keep everyone safe.

The Paris terror attacks have prompted at least three Michigan members of Congress to renew efforts to pass measures they argue would counter terrorism.

Sens. Debbie Stabenow of Lansing and Gary Peters of Bloomfield Township are among the Senate Democrats who asked Republican congressional leaders this week to set votes on legislation to plug a loophole that allows individuals on the government’s terrorist watch list to buy firearms and explosives in the United States.

CMP Mission Expands to Include M1911/M1911-A1 Pistols

While the NDAA for fiscal year 2016 was signed into law on Nov. 25, 2015, the details on selling CMP 1911s need to be worked out between the CMP’s CEO Mark Johnson and the Department of the Army. But one thing is for sure, Section 1087 of the NDAA adds M1911/M1911-A1 pistols to the .30-cal. and .22-cal. rifles the CMP is currently authorized to sell. And yes, you can still buy M1 Garands straight from the CMP, and you can read how it works here.

The NDAA directs the CMP to acquire an FFL, and the GCA requires qualified purchasers to only obtain handguns from FFLs in their state of residence. Again, the details on how this will work have not been established.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the high powers" delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.' A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power." [Cockrum v. State, 24 Tex. 394, at 401-402 (1859)]
