‘Progressives’ with environmental objections to guns silent on amnesty impacts

... "The reason for the injunction was that an environmental impact study for the effects of allowing guns in national parks had not been completed as required by law ... How much more of an impact will the president’s immigration directives have on the environment than the off-chance a person defending their life may (or may not) need to fire off rounds of ammunition that may (or may not) leave traces within national park boundaries? If the law and judicial precedent for halting executive actions on environmental grounds pending an impact study exist, why not employ the same legal tactics as anti-gunners and environmentalcases do, and use them?" ...

"The report of a woman who negligently killed herself while mishandling a firearm has been illustrative of the way so-called 'progressives' value human life when that life belongs to gun owners. Becca Campbell, 26, and her unidentified boyfriend, 'had bought a gun because of fears of unrest related to the pending grand jury decision on the shooting of Michael Brown,' ..."

"'He told investigators that as they drove ... the victim waved a gun, jokingly saying the couple were ready for Ferguson,' the report, quoting sources briefed by the police, continued. 'He ducked to get out of the way of the gun and accidentally rear-ended another car. He said the accident caused the gun to go off and she was struck by a bullet in the head.'" ...

Ferguson Part V: Why Officer Wilson Was Justified In Shooting An “Unarmed” Man

"Much of America, including CNN’s Attorney Sunny Hostin, can’t seem to grasp how Officer Darren Wilson could have been justified in shooting an ostensibly unarmed man. If Ms. Hostin got through law school without learning the definition of “disparity of force,” well, she wouldn’t be the first to do so."

"DISPARITY OF FORCE is the legal principle which recognizes that even without a per se weapon, a violent attacker may have such a physical advantage over the intended victim that if the assault is allowed to continue, the totality of the circumstances indicate that the victim is likely to be killed or crippled. This authorizes the victim to use an actual deadly weapon in self-defense. ..." ...

... "The Supreme Judicial Court [of Massachusetts] is being asked to decide whether a state law that prohibits private citizens from possessing stun guns infringes on their right to keep and bear arms. In an unusual twist, the court is also being asked to examine whether the Second Amendment right to defend yourself in your own home applies in the case of a homeless person."

"Arguments before the court are scheduled Tuesday." ...

RECALL: Remington 887 Shotgun Accidental Slamfire Issue

"Remington hasn’t done well at all this year. Starting with the recall of all Remington 700 rifles for a dangerous trigger system, followed by the train wreck that was the Remington R51, nothing has really gone right for Big Green in 2014. Now their annus horibilis continues with another recall of an entire line of shotguns. This time they are asking anyone who bought a Remington 887 scattergun in the last year (since December 2013) to send it back to the factory because it turns out that there’s a teeny tiny possibility that the shotgun will immediately discharge as soon as you put a round in the chamber, whether the trigger was pulled or not . . ." ...

"Magpul Industries said Wednesday that it will complete its exit from Colorado by the first quarter of 2015."

"The ammunition-magazine maker, which was based in Erie, talked about leaving the state after Colorado strengthened its gun-control laws in 2013. About 100 employees were notified in October that they would lose their jobs because of the Erie closure."

"Magpul is nearly doubling its square footage in the move. This month, it opened its Austin, Texas, headquarters in a 15,990-square-foot building. Manufacturing and distribution moves to Cheyenne, where a 185,000-square-foot facility opens Jan. 12.'" ...

"I’m a recent SBR convert. For the longest time, I wasn’t on board with the whole idea. Sure, I thought the NFA was stupid, but I really thought I’d get a can before I got a lower receiver serialized. But now? I think a honest to goodness SBR would be a really nice thing to have in the safe. And if my perfect AR platform SBR exists, it’ll be chambered in .300 BLK. And piston driven. Enter the MK109 from Primary Weapons Systems . . ." ...

"Wednesday’s announcement by Magpul Industries that it would be gone completely from Colorado by early 2015 — the kind of announcement for which Wyoming and Texas were thankful yesterday while Colorado will be left with a gaping hole in its economy — was more than just a symbolic victory over gun prohibitionists."

"Anti-gunners are the ones who prefer symbolism over substance, so they may not care that some 100 jobs will be lost, or that — by some estimates — the state may lose about $80 million to its economy. Some may even rejoice." ...

"Bad news for Michael Bloomberg: It turns out that Americans really like guns. While most of the focus for Black Friday is on the half-priced TVs, and Victoria Secret sales, a sizeable portion of Americans decided to head to their local gun store and pick up a new firearm. After all, nothing says 'Merry Christmas' quite like an AK47 with a red and green bow on it. (Hint, hint, wink, wink.)" ...

"'Whenever tragedies occur like the one that engulfed Jeanine LePage and her family in Tabernacle, we ask ourselves how this could have been prevented.' So says Carole Stiller, President of the NJ Million Mom March, at the dailyrecord.com. 'While there are many unanswered questions about what led to this tragedy, we cannot forget this simple truth: Too many shootings occur because proper weight has not been given to the risks that come with gun ownership.' In other words . . ."

asingly in recent years ... the NRA has suggested sotto voce that contemporary Americans need to preserve and exercise 'the right of the people to keep and bear Arms' in order to defend themselves against domestic political criminals—who, in the nature of things, can victimize everyone in America, State by State or throughout the Nation as a whole. But the notion that even well-armed individuals—lacking the organization, training, discipline, and especially the legal authority of some collective, constitutionally recognized institution such as the Militia—could stand up in isolation or in small ad hoc groups for very long against the para-military police-state apparatus of a full-blown tyranny is childish. ..." ...

Why Can’t America Control Its Violence Epidemic?

... "Although I’m best known as a former model, I’m writing about this issue as a Canadian living in the United States, and as a mother witnessing the influence of the Internet on gun culture. The fact that it’s 2014 and parents still have to worry about the kind of violence that we saw in Florida is ridiculous (the Canadian parliament shooting earlier this year, though terrible, wasn’t a school shooting). Perhaps because I wasn’t raised in America, I have a hard time understanding why more isn’t being done to prevent these acts. It’s sickening to even think about having to talk about these things in front of my child. I don’t want her to know about them, but if she continues to live in the United States, I know she’ll have no choice." ...

"A bill that would expand 'stand your ground'-like provisions in Ohio law is currently in committee in the Ohio Senate."

"House Bill 203 passed the Ohio House last year by a vote of 62-27, and is currently under consideration in the Civil Justice Committee of the Senate."

"The bill may be on its way out of committee in the coming weeks."

"As passed by the House, the bill states 'a person has no duty to retreat before using force in self-defense, defense of another, or defense of that person's residence, if that person is in a place that the person lawfully has a right to be.'" ...

"A federal judge has rejected a request by the California attorney general to further delay his order overturning the 10-day waiting period for gun owners who want to buy more firearms."

"U.S. District Judge Anthony Ishii of Fresno ruled last week that he already gave six months from his August decision before the state must implement his order. The judge found no evidence that the cooling-off period to buy more firearms prevents violence by people who already own guns." ...

"On November 26, California Attorney General Kamala Harris's office said that it will ask that the judgment against California's 'good cause' requirement for concealed carry permits be referred to an 'en banc' [full] panel of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals."

"The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Attorney General's move buys time to 'let sheriffs continue requiring [good cause]' before issuing concealed carry permits, and also pushes the matter in a way that will force a decision on whether concealed carry is a right or simply a privilege. "Anne Hart’s latest column, 'Time to take a stand against gun violence,' is just a rehashing of the very same piece she wrote a year ago ('Mom’s demand action').

"She is still shilling for Michael Bloomberg and still spreading the same tired anti-gun lies. She brings up the need for 'universal background checks,' banning gun shows and banning large capacity semi-autos, even though virtually none of these shootings she wishes to prevent involved any such weapons or could have been prevented by any of her 'solutions.'" ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.... We've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of government himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. — Ronald Reagan
