After months of inaction, the House Judiciary Committee is set to act on national concealed carry reciprocity legislation Wednesday, a move that gun rights activists across the country have been waiting for since January.
The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-SC) has 213 co-sponsors, all but three who are Republicans. The three Democrats are Sanford Bishop of Georgia, Henry Cuellar of Texas and Collin Peterson of Minnesota. |

Baltimore County Council members offered support Tuesday for a proposed high-end "guntry club" and firearms range in Owings Mills. Council members held a public hearing Tuesday on a zoning bill that would enable the Guntry Club of Maryland to turn an 84,000-square-foot office building along Red Run Boulevard into a high-end shooting range and training center. The Guntry Club owners — retired county police Lt. Rick Landsman and current county police Det. Brian Wolf — did not attend the hearing. |

In theory, should you find yourself in a nasty situation where you may need to go to concealed-carry guns for your survival, it’s a simple matter of drawing your pistol, point the muzzle toward the threat and press the trigger, right? Well, what if that simple solution to a complex problem turns out to be not so simple? |

The Mequon Common Council, with no discussion Nov. 14, unanimously approved lending $50,000 from its revolving loan fund to help get plans for a shooting range off the ground. Mequon residents Mark and Cheryle Rebholz have plans to open an eight-lane gun range in a 9,500-square-foot building at 9653 N. Granville Road on Mequon’s far southwest side. The city’s action is the final step in the process. The city’s Economic Development Board approved the loan request Oct. 24. |

Florida's laws against the open carry of firearms will stand after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the petition of a Fort Pierce resident claiming the law is unconstitutional. The 2012 case of Dale Norman, a Fort Pierce man arrested in February of that year for openly carrying a holstered pistol in public, was denied Monday by the highest court in the United States. |

Greg Evers was a southern gentleman. By occupation he was a down-to-earth, God-fearing farmer. This plain-spoken man with a southern drawl was equally at home in work clothes rolling around in the dirt trying to repair a broken tractor, or in a suit and polished cowboy boots, debating on the floor of the Florida House or the Senate trying to do the right thing for Florida citizens. |

A Fayetteville bar plans to allow customers to carry guns as soon as new enhanced carry permits are in place. A new law took effect in September that would allow concealed handguns into bars, churches, and government buildings. However, that can't happen until those with a concealed carry license get additional training through an enhanced carry permit. Those permits likely won't be available until rules are approved in early 2018.

The U.S. House Judiciary Committee has scheduled a full committee mark-up of H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, this Wednesday! It’s therefore more important than ever to urge your member of Congress to support this crucial legislation. Concealed carry reciprocity is the NRA’s highest legislative priority in Congress. It would ensure that states recognize the concealed carry credentials of other states. This would end abuses in anti-gun states like New York and New Jersey and allow law-abiding concealed carriers to exercise their rights nationwide with peace of mind. |

Anti-Second Amendment gun-grabbers are so fanatical and monomaniacal in their opposition to firearms that it’s with a great sense of relief I realize most of them don’t own a gun themselves. A weapon in the hands of someone that obsessed and impervious to reason is not a recipe for a calm society. Plus, there’s another reason I prefer they leave gun ownership to people like me: Many of them are pathological liars. |

The phrase "charitable gaming" might call to mind images of senior citizens playing bingo in the basements of Roman Catholic churches or a sports car being raffled at the St. Cecilia festival in Independence. But in Northern Kentucky there are also firearms among the cakes and cars. These include a Daniel Defense M4v7 rifle with a DD Superior Suppression Device engraved with "Friends of the NRA." |

Recently, an ADN reader who witnessed a daytime assault and robbery emailed me that she was considering carrying a firearm for protection for the first time in her life.
Let me offer some direction — after first disclaiming that what I write is not intended, nor should it be taken, as legal advice. Nor is it an exhaustive treatment of gun-carry laws.
The Alaska Constitution's Right to Keep and Bear Arms is in Article I, Section 19.
"A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The individual right to keep and bear arms shall not be denied or infringed by the State or a political subdivision of the State."

I am a highschool student with conservative views, a rarity these days. A few weeks ago I happened to wear a Smith and Wesson baseball hat to school. At the end of the school day, I was called to the main office where I was met by three of the school’s administrators. To my surprise I was told that my hat was offensive to my fellow classmates and teachers. I was unaware that there was anything offensive or disturbing about my hat. As far as I was concerned I was just wearing a hat that I wear from time to time. I was further surprised when the administrators said they needed to search my backpack. |

During the Wyoming Legislature’s most recent session, lawmakers passed a bill to give school boards the option to allow guns in K-12 schools under certain circumstances, and the school board in Lander is beginning to consider what to do with the new option. Under the new law, school boards have the option to allow school district employees to carry a concealed weapon on school property. The law does have some qualifications — the employee must have a concealed carry permit and proper training, and they must keep the firearm secure in either a lockbox or biometric container while in the building. |

Missouri State University hosted a forum featuring two Missouri lawmakers. The goal was to talk about where guns should and shouldn't be allowed and what restrictions should be placed on gun ownership. Missouri is one of 16 states that ban concealed weapons on campus. "It's good to be talking about this now because people while they may not know or need to know right now what's forthcoming they will need to know what comes through," said Elizabeth Dudash-Buskirk, the event organizer and an MSU professor.
