"...the Constitution doesn’t even list health, education or welfare among the 17 subjects which Congress has a power to legislate (Article I, [Section 8])...

No where does it say that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed except as may be necessary for protecting the public."

Leaders of gun control groups from Illinois and 15 other states today called on the nation's newspapers to stop carrying classified advertisements for guns, saying such ads let criminals obtain firearms without undergoing federally mandated background checks.

"Criminals will always be able to obtain handguns, but newspapers shouldn't be making it easy for them," said Thom Mannard, executive director of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence.

There's an old saying, "A conservative is a liberal who's been mugged." Now I guess we can add, "A gun-owner is a liberal who's worried about terrorists."

It's a silver lining to a dark cloud, isn't it, this sudden collapse of the anti-gun movement?

In the halls of Congress and the State House, they used to debate: "Should we ban assault weapons?" Now the more pressing question is: "Do I buy a revolver or an automatic?"
