"The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) today said the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia "did the right thing" by setting the stage for filing of legal briefs and oral arguments in a challenge to the long-standing handgun ban in Washington, D.C."

"The case, Parker v. District of Columbia, seeks to restore the right of District residents to have handguns and functional long guns in their homes. Under current regulation, handguns are banned, and rifles and shotguns must be disassembled." ...

"The debate over gun control is decades old, it is also going to continue to rage on for decades to come. For many who do not really take sides or think the debate is just another partisan political fight which does not effect them, there is a new shining example of how there is no escaping this debate."

"The issue of gun control does indeed affect all of us. It does not matter if you own no guns or 100 guns. Whether or not you are a member of the National Rifle Association or the type of person who would never feel comfortable owning a gun matters not. The real essence of the battle between gun control advocates and gun rights advocates is not over guns. In the end, it is all about the right for you and me to defend ourselves." ...

... "Aaron: You know, you have had some problems with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, or actually they have caused you problems, so I guess the question is when did they start to lean on you and why?"

"Len: The answer to that is not real simplistic. It began when I started asking questions. You know, what is your procedure, what is the criteria? ..." ...

"Aaron: Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner is Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Do you have an opinion as to why they are opposed to the videotaping?"

"Len: Well, they just told me that they are opposed to it, and in my many discussion with ATF management, quite frankly, they don’t want anything defined, as that would make it too easy to defend one’s self..." ...

"Charley Reese's recent article on the right to keep and bear arms has prompted me to address the main issue that prevents me from being a member of the NRA: they do not have a clear understanding of rights. I find their goals laudable yet their unprincipled approaches are quite problematic, as I shall show."

"The National Rifle Association has embarked on a series of libertinist attacks on private property rights. The latest debacle is a proposed Florida law that would not allow employers to ban firearms from their parking lots. The legislature is thinking that this law somehow enhances a citizen's rights but the exact opposite will happen. ..." ...

Nancy Pelosi is co-owner of several strictly non-union businesses. ... And more gun control advocates than can easily be counted either own guns or hire armed bodyguards."

"Today, U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and teens from UCAN joined forces to release the results of the 2005 UCAN Teen Gun Survey, a national survey of teen attitudes on gun violence." ...

"The survey also portrays that an overwhelming majority of teens (82.7%) feel that handguns should be childproofed like medicine bottles. 'If we keep kids safe from aspirin bottles, yo-yos and toasters, the least we can do is pass laws to protect them from the most dangerous product in the United States,' Senator Durbin said. ..." ...

"The use of deadly force in self-defense doesn't apply once the threat of bodily harm is gone, the city prosecutor says."

"'If you have an opportunity to retreat, you have a duty to do that,' City Prosecutor Dionne M. Almasy said Tuesday. 'It's fairly obvious; the self-defense doctrine says you use deadly force to combat deadly force or serious bodily harm.'"

"The most recent case of turning the tables is 83-year-old Walter Swita of South Avenue, who killed an intruder last week with a German Luger war souvenir more than 60 years old. The prosecutor said Swita represents a 'classic case' of self-defense, and no charge will be filed by her office. ..."

"Slightly more than a year after they branded this publication’s contributors as 'Buchananite pricks,' the editors of the Cornell Review surprised campus conservatives on October 20 by inviting...a Buchanan!"

"Speaking before a 40 member crowd, former U.S. Treasurer and current political strategist Bay Buchanan delivered a talk entitled 'Guns and More Guns: The Case for Arming the Citizenry.' The majority of the lecture was dedicated to the topic of guns in America and the remaining time to commentary on various American political issues."

"In James Dark’s view, Texans have become better off in the 10 years since they began legally carrying handguns in public."

"From Addison on the north side of Dallas, where Dark is executive director of the Texas State Rifle Association, he sees a drop in crime since 1995 when several states passed laws guaranteeing concealed carry permits to most citizens."

"He pointed to a trend that gun control advocates have connected to assault rifle bans. Nationwide, serious violent crimes have dropped off since 1993, according to the U.S. Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics. The trend coincides with a change in laws to allow more concealed carry handgun permits." ...

"ROBERT Scheer's Op-Ed column on the new gun liability law ('Congress Caves to the Gun Lobby, Oct. 26) presents a biased and disingenuous viewpoint."

"For the past decade, gun-ban extremists who could not achieve their political agenda in Congress have misused the courts in an attempt to sue the firearms industry out of existence. Their argument: that firearms manufacturers and sellers should be liable for the criminal acts of third parties over whom they have no control."

"When a drunk driver kills someone, the car manufacturer is not responsible. When an arsonist burns a building, the match manufacturer is not at fault. The same is true of firearms manufacturers when a criminal misuses their products." ...

:The city that made Dirty Harry famous, but also witnessed the assassination of a mayor and supervisor a generation ago, on Tuesday will weigh enacting the toughest handgun ban in the nation."

If Proposition H passes on the ballot, San Francisco residents would not be allowed to own handguns and would have to turn in ones already in their possession by April 1."

"The proposal comes at a time when San Francisco is confounded by how to stop the rise of gun-related homicides in recent years, particularly among youths. But opposition from gun-owner groups is fierce, and San Francisco is poised again to insert itself in the middle of a contentious national debate." ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Gun owners may be stunned by a new ordinance that will make purchasing a stun gun harder.

Miami-Dade commissioners approved a new set of rules that will require a five-day mandatory waiting period for people who want to buy a stun gun.

The five-day layover gives time for individual background checks to be performed and training conducted for everyone who buys a stun gun.

Florida has come under fire from anti-weapons groups such as the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence because the state does not require background checks at gun shows and recently passed legislation allowing people to carry handguns in public for self-defense.

"Wisconsin residents should have the right to fight crime themselves by packing hidden guns, knives and billy clubs, supporters of a concealed weapon bill told two legislative committees Wednesday."

Supporters of the new bill wore stickers that read 'PPA - Self-defense is my right.' PPA stands for Personal Protection Act, the nickname Republicans attached to the measure." ...

"When Park Hills Police Chief Rick Smith fired at a van that officers were chasing outside Covington Catholic High School in September, he committed 'a very serious violation of police department policies ... made more egregious because the violator was the chief of the police department,' wrote Park Hills Mayor Michael Hellman in an order suspending Smith without pay for a week."

"The three-page order, signed by Hellman and placed in Smith's personnel file Oct. 26, came after a lengthy in-house investigation into the Park Hills chief's actions during a police pursuit that began when a van sped off from a traffic stop in neighboring Fort Wright Sept. 9." ...
