I saw an ad for used Taurus Model 82 .38 Special pistols for just shy of $200 each, out the door, in a recent GunNews and thought I might pick up a couple for loaner guns for training courses. As these were Taurus copy of the 4 K-frame Smith & Wesson revolvers, I thought they would be a perfect complement for the existing Smith and Wesson K-frame guns we already have.

I pawed over about a half-dozen specimens at Liberty Guns and frankly, these guns were rough. The finish was poor, the grips horrid and cosmetically, these were very ugly guns.

I selected a pair that seemed significantly better than the others.

We used them in our February class and we pulled them off the line almost immediately as they were spitting lead.

The Obama Administrations Department of Justice is expected to continue to argue before the Supreme Court in this case that the federal government may expand its powers over the people and the states by way of international treaties, . . . . If the Supreme Court agrees with the Department of Justice, then it will be clear that entering into an international small arms treaty would provide the federal government potentially unlimited power to regulate firearms.

No matter what you think now, everybody better grab some popcorn and pay attention. The stakes are high and the Supreme Court has, as noted by Ilya Somin, not only issued a "rare unanimous decision on a federalism issue" . . .

OB Streeper finally agreed to address our audience with the story of his time spent in France, behind German lines, during World War II. His presentation was superlative!

Streeper enlisted as a young man in 1943 was assigned to the 461st Bomb Group, 767th Squadron.

He began his presentation by saying he had it good during that time. Unlike the ground troops, he slept in barracks, ate good chow and even got a couple of drinks of whiskey after each successful run. He also got one of those bomber jackets that the girls all liked. Those girls would chase after us guys in bomber jackets, he chuckled. I wasnt such a good runner and some of those girls might have caught me.

When night falls in the Rockaways, the hoods come out. Ever since Sandy strafed the Queens peninsula and tore up the boardwalk, its become an often lawless place where cops are even scarcer than electrical power and food. Ok, so you purchased your gun. You took some training. You feel confident. Now what?

What will you do at 2am when the door gets kicked in? How will you respond in all of the confusion?

Will you remember where your gun is? Will you remember how to load it? Will you take the appropriate amount of time to recognize a threat versus a family member? Will you be able to clear a feed jam without freaking out? Can you do all of these things with a moments notice?

Not only is this a position that panders to these voters but it is a position that does not seek to address substantively what the Second Amendment guarantees and what the Founding Fathers intended. They certainly did not intent that even law abiding citizens should have access to assault rifles or high yield weaponry that can kill many people in a short amount of time.

On Friday, to the surprise of Second Amendment advocates, residents of Cook County, Illinois, which includes the city of Chicago, witnessed the imposition of a new tax on firearms. The county's commissioners claim the tax is needed to pay healthcare costs that result from gun violence, according to a law enforcement official.

The Board of Commissioners voted 9-7 to impose a $25 tax on each firearm sold within Cook County. The tax is expected to raise $600,000 in revenue in 2013, although critics believe it will raise less money since Chicago has one of the nation's toughest gun control laws.

Election day is under 36 hours away, and for voters in Louisiana, the president isn't the only vote on the ballot capturing attention.

There are nine state Constitutional amendments you'll be asked to decide on.

"Way too many gun laws," said a SWLA resident. "We have the second amendment. I'm a pure defender of the second amendment."

While the second amendment isn't changing., voters may make some changes to Louisiana's constitution regarding guns.

A Delaware County man was briefly detained and later released by law enforcement officers after a fatal shooting in apparent self-defense on Saturday night, a law enforcement official said Sunday.

William Alan Martin, 48, of Leach, was fatally shot about 7 p.m. Saturday outside an acquaintances residence, said Delaware County Sheriffs Capt. M.G. Wells.

Martin went to the residence to check on a relative when a confrontation ensued between him and Justin Tehee, 23, of Leach, he said.

Wells said a high power rifle was used in the shooting. Martin reportedly made threats to Tehee over the telephone and a loaded handgun was recovered on the roof of Martins vehicle, Wells said.

The head of the National Rifle Association was in Duluth on Saturday afternoon to help Republican Rep. Chip Cravaack with his re-election campaign. NRA President David Keene has been traveling the nation since late September promoting NRA-endorsed candidates like Cravaack. Cravaack maintains that his DFL challenger, former Rep. The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence hopes to use a shooting victims lawsuit against Hi-Point Firearms to limit the scope of a federal law that has protected gun manufacturers against liability claims since 2005.

Beemiller Inc., doing business as Hi-Point Fire Arms, 1015 Springmill St., was sued by Daniel Williams of Buffalo, N.Y.

Williams was a 16-year-old high school basketball star with prospects for a college sports scholarship when he was shot and seriously injured in August 2003 by Cornell Caldwell, who apparently misidentified him as a rival gang member.

Pennsylvania judges now can enforce tough minimum penalties on people found guilty of buying more than one gun for criminals who can't legally buy a firearm themselves.

It's too late to help Officer Bradley Fox from Plymouth Township outside Philadelphia. Barely seven weeks ago, a convicted felon shot Fox to death. Police say a "straw" purchaser obtained the murder weapon and eight other guns and turned them over to the killer.

Question: A man Im seeing keeps a plastic squirt gun under the seat of his car. Its red, but otherwise looks like the real thing.

He says he keeps it there in case he ever needs to show it to somebody who messes with him in traffic.

He wouldnt actually point it at anybody, he says, just show it to them.

Ive never seen him do it, but if he does, could it get him in trouble?

Scrutiny Standard for Gun Laws

ť A "for" vote would require that any laws restricting the right to keep and bear arms be subject to the highest level of judicial review, known as strict scrutiny. Also, the amendment would say that the right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental one in Louisiana. It would delete a line in the Constitution that says the right to keep and bear arms shall not prevent the passage of laws to prohibit the carrying of concealed weapons.

Defend Yourself! Ok, I know that she has the right to bare arms but what about Kim Kardashians right to bear arms does she need to own a gun? Ms. Kim showed up in a tight leather dress at Miamis Pembroke Gun & Range store to load up on gun equipment to protect herself. Big sigh.

This is all supposed to be under the pretext that she needs to protect herself since an unwanted intruder allegedly showed up at her door this year with a suitcase. Chicas!! Her house is gated and she has security, giggle. But nonetheless a woman has to protect herself, right?

While some argue that the states policies work just fine, as evidenced by the lack of problems reported by campus police, Gary Marbut, president of the Montana Shooting Sports Association, stands among gun rights advocates who believe that the Board of Regents has no authority to ban firearms on campus.

Marbut argues that current laws leave students and faculty vulnerable to others with ill intentions. He says the time has come to revisit Montana law as it pertains to firearms on campus.

I think people tend to agree with us, pretty generally, that the Montana Constitution doesnt give the Board of Regents any authority to abolish the (U.S.) Constitution, Marbut said.

With most voters focused on the economy or health care when they vote on Tuesday, some in Illinois will get a chance to send a message about gun control. Gun-rights advocates in at least nine mostly rural counties have placed measures on ballots asking voters if they want Illinois to allow its residents to carry concealed weapons. Currently, it is the last U.S. state where its entirely illegal.
