Alexander Miguel Laykovich was wearing body armor and carrying eight firearms when police stopped him near Stanford, Kentucky, on January 25, 2024. He told investigators he was headed to Fort Knox to discuss a security clearance matter. A subsequent FBI search uncovered another 15 guns and two boxes of explosive devices in a Wisconsin storage unit.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled Thursday, October 29, 2026, that the federal prohibition on firearm possession following certain involuntary psychiatric commitments was consistent with the Second Amendment. The judges also upheld a sentencing enhancement tied to guns purchased by Laykovich's girlfriend.

Skyeler “Bleau” Jackson, 24, says he is the first person ever charged with an eight-year-old Florida statute that may prohibit the possession of Forced Reset Triggers, or FRTs, which are completely legal in most other free states.

He may be right.

FRTs have long been a frequent target of the anti-gun media, which falsely claimed they turned rifles into machineguns. Thankfully, federal law now makes them legal, but a Florida state law still bans FRTs in the Sunshine State.

Florida’s poorly written statute certainly hasn’t been used much since 2018 when then-Governor Rick Scott—now a U.S. Senator—signed the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, which created the law.

As Dems Flip Control of Congress, Anti-Gun Candidates Make Big Gains

Tuesday's midterm elections saw Republicans lose control of both chambers of Congress as Democrats, running with the backing of big gun control money, swept their races.

As of early Wednesday morning, the AP called the Senate 54-44 and the House 228-139, with Dems taking the driver's seat starting in January 2027. While two Senate races and 58 in the House were yet to be called Wednesday, even if all went to the GOP – most are Democrat-leaning – it wouldn't be enough to avoid the shift in political polarity.

Among the Dems who won or are leading were all eight former Everytown volunteers running for the House, with millions in Bloomberg funding helping them in their contests.

As a tween, Natalie Gibson helped change Iowa state law so children could learn to shoot handguns under adult supervision. Now the Iowa State University student is suing the city of Ames, Iowa, where the university is located, over a public bus policy that prevents her from carrying a lawful firearm despite holding a valid Iowa carry permit.

The restriction reaches beyond her bus ride. Complying can mean leaving her firearm at home for the entire trip, including the walk to the stop and the journey after she steps off the bus.

NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) Executive Director John Commerford issued the following statement in response to last night’s election results:

“Last night’s results put progressive majorities in control of Congress and additional state houses across the country, leaving the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans under direct and immediate threat. The NRA is ready to stand and fight in Congress, the courts, and in every state where those rights are at risk. This is not the time to sit idly by and lick our wounds—it’s the time to stand up, engage, organize, and join the fight to protect the Second Amendment.”

PA: FPC and NRA Challenge Pennsylvania’s Under-21 Gun Carry Ban After Court Defeat

On November 2, 2026, FPC and the NRA filed a motion for a preliminary injunction or, alternatively, summary judgment in Maines v. Bethel, asking the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania to block the state’s prohibition on issuing carry licenses to adults under 21. The motion follows an October 29 lawsuit challenging Pennsylvania’s continued refusal to recognize the full Second Amendment rights of otherwise law-abiding young adults.

The case presents a straightforward constitutional question: How can Pennsylvania continue denying carry licenses to 18-to-20-year-olds when a federal appeals court has already ruled that those adults are among “the people” protected by the Second Amendment?

Massachusetts voters allowed a restrictive gun-control law to remain in place by a nearly 35-point margin Tuesday as part of a Democratic midterm sweep.

Pro-Second Amendment activists, such as the Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL), previously secured nearly 100,000 signatures to put a referendum on the 2026 Massachusetts ballot to ask if Bay State voters supported H.4885, a gun-control law passed in 2024. With 85% of the ballots counted, 67.2% of voters opted to keep the statute in place, according to election totals posted by The New York Times.

Such a move would normally block the law from taking effect until after the referendum, but Democratic Gov. Maura Healey had added an emergency provision Oct. 1 to keep the law in force.

Ed.: The veto referendum failed, sadly.

“A successful Business Executive, Jon knows the America First Policies required to Create GREAT Jobs, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, and Champion our Nation’s Golden Age,” Trump wrote.

“In Congress, he will fight tirelessly to Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, Safeguard our Elections, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment,” he continued.

The 38th District is in the southeastern region of the state and includes parts of the Houston suburbs. Hunt has represented the district since 2023, before he left to launch an unsuccessful Senate bid.

A federal judge in Tampa has refused to sign off on a deal in which Florida’s own top law enforcement officials agreed that the state’s mandatory three-day waiting period on firearms purchases violates the Second Amendment and refused to defend it in court.

Instead of issuing a ruling, U.S. District Judge Steven Merryday invited other parties, including two anti-gunner organizations, to defend the law in court.

The case stems from a lawsuit filed by four Florida gun buyers, two firearms retailers, and the National Rifle Association (NRA), which sued the state’s Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Mark Glass, Attorney General James Uthmeier, and 20 state attorneys in August 2025.

Supporters of gun-control helped flipped seats in states President Donald Trump carried in 2024 as part of a Democratic sweep in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

Republicans lost the House and Senate as Democrats swept races in the South and Midwest, including flipping open seats in Iowa, North Carolina and Texas while ousting incumbents in Ohio, Kansas and South Carolina. Among the new gun-control candidates elected are Democratic Texas Sen.-elect James Talarico, South Carolina Sen.-elect Annie Andrews and Ohio Sen.-elect Sherrod Brown after former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a billionaire, donated at least $36 million to Everytown for Gun Safety.

According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), October 2026 recorded 1,402,422 adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) checks, a 7.9% increase over the same month last year. That represents 103,110 additional checks compared with October 2025, when the adjusted figure stood at 1,299,312.

The increase preceded Tuesday’s election results, which handed Democrats control of both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. With anti-gun lawmakers preparing to take power in Congress and gaining ground in state governments, the incentive for Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights before politicians attempt to restrict them has grown considerably.

As a longtime Second Amendment advocate, I have spent years watching attorneys general treat the Second Amendment as a second-class right. Too often, that has included Republicans. Party labels have not guaranteed results. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is different.

In less than two years, he has used the power of his office more aggressively and consistently to protect the right to keep and bear arms than any Florida attorney general in history or any state attorney general in modern American history.

Ed.: AG Uthmeier won re-election.

This is not a personal attack on House Speaker Matt Huffman or legislative leadership. Speaker Huffman has a proven track record of strong pro-gun leadership, consistently advancing Second Amendment priorities and defending the constitutional rights of Ohio gun owners throughout his tenure. Rather, this is a demand for basic legislative accountability and a recognition that a rare reform opportunity must not be taken for granted. A bill sitting in committee changes nothing, a vague promise to consider it later provides zero legal certainty, and an unverified assumption that Gov. Mike DeWine will sign it is a dangerous gamble.

DeWine’s track record on the Second Amendment has been lukewarm at best.

The FBI has denied firearm purchases by Pastor Russell Fincher and Patrick “Tate” Adamiak, two men President Donald Trump pardoned on Sept. 3, 2026, according to the Second Amendment Foundation.

Adamiak tried to buy an Auto-Ordnance semi-automatic Thompson engraved with images of President Trump. Fincher tried to buy a Smith & Wesson Victory handgun. Each man completed an ATF Form 4473. Each was denied by the FBI.

The denials came nearly two months after the pardons were signed. SAF reports that neither man’s Second Amendment rights appear to have been fully restored. The FBI has not explained the denials or answered SAF’s emailed questions, so the account here rests on SAF’s reporting and the two men’s own statements.

Republicans Lost Congress. What Does the 2026 Election Mean for America’s Gun Owners?

Tuesday’s elections delivered sweeping Democratic victories, handing the party control of both the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. Democrats flipped at least seven Republican-held Senate seats and defeated Republican House candidates across the country, including in states that supported Trump by substantial margins just two years ago. Republicans also lost governorships in several longtime conservative strongholds.

For America’s gun owners, the consequences extend far beyond the next two years. The election sends Democrats with documented records of supporting gun restrictions to Congress for terms that will extend beyond Trump’s presidency.

The Trump administration has admitted that the federal government cannot constitutionally prohibit licensed firearm dealers from selling handguns to law-abiding adults ages 18 to 20. Yet the Department of Justice is still fighting in federal court to prevent gun-rights organizations from securing lasting judicial protection against the very same unconstitutional law.

On November 4, Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) filed a reply brief with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in FPC v. ATF, formerly Reese v. ATF. The filing challenges DOJ’s attempt to avoid further judicial relief nearly six years after FPC, the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), and the Louisiana Shooting Association first challenged...

Regulations on suppressors and other items covered under the National Firearms Act could be halted after Democrats take control of Congress in January.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) released guidelines on Oct. 9 on items no longer covered under the National Firearms Act (NFA), noting that state and local rules remained unchanged in the aftermath of a ruling handed down on Aug. 5 by United States District Judge James Wesley Hendrix of the Northern District of Texas, a Trump appointee, striking down the NFA requirements on the grounds that the reduction of the transfer tax to $0 in 2025’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act rendered the registration and processing requirements of the NFA unconstitutional.

Voters in Idaho chose the Winchester Model 1873 as the state’s official firearm in a non-binding referendum Tuesday.

Republicans lost the House and Senate as Democrats swept multiple races in the South and Midwest, including flipping open seats in Iowa, North Carolina and Texas while ousting incumbents in Ohio, Kansas and South Carolina during Tuesday’s midterm elections. Republican Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed House Bill 932 on April 2, creating the advisory referendum that featured six firearms as options for the honor, which the Model 1873, known as “the gun that won the West,” won with 31.2% of the vote, according to The New York Times.
