Manitoba's Progressive Conservatives are urging Ottawa to amend the Criminal Code to make it easier for homeowners to protect themselves and their families during armed home invasions.
Borderland MLA Josh Guenter, who introduced the resolution, says the current law leaves Manitobans vulnerable and confused.
He is calling on the Manitoba Legislature to affirm that, in his words, "Manitobans clearly do have the right to defend themselves, their loved ones, within their own home.” |

When Jessica Bond Ferguson looked out her back door early Sunday morning and saw a Rhesus macaque pacing near her yard in Heidelberg, Mississippi, she didn’t think — she reacted.
The 35-year-old mother of five had heard the warnings all week: several lab monkeys were still on the loose after a transport truck overturned on Interstate 59. Authorities cautioned residents to keep their distance. But when one of the missing monkeys appeared within sight of her children, Ferguson says her “mother’s instinct” left her no choice. |

Three years after voters narrowly approved gun control Measure 114, the Oregon Supreme Court on Thursday will hear arguments on whether its regulations are constitutional under state law.
A lawyer for two Harney County gun owners who challenged the regulations will ask the court to overturn an appellate court’s ruling that found the measure constitutional.
The measure limits gun magazine capacity to 10 or fewer rounds, requires a permit to buy a gun and closes what’s called the Charleston Loophole, which requires the completion, not just initiation, of a background check before someone can transfer a firearm. |

A few weeks after taking office, President Donald Trump called the Second Amendment "an indispensable safeguard of security and liberty," declaring that "the right to keep and bear arms must not be infringed." But in a case that the Supreme Court recently agreed to hear, the Trump administration is urging the justices to uphold one of the federal government's most constitutionally dubious restrictions on that right.
Since 1968, Congress has prohibited gun possession by illegal drug users, a provision that affects millions of peaceful Americans who pose no plausible threat to public safety. That gun ban is illogical, unjust and inconsistent with "this Nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation," ... |

It's not surprising that Giffords.org, the anti-gun group, is taking a victory lap over last night's Virginia gubernatorial race. They've got Abigail Spanberger and Democrats in power, so they'll undoubtedly try to strip Virginians of their God-given Second Amendment rights.
But it is ironic on two fronts. First, Giffords.org has not called for tougher criminal penalties for gun crimes. In fact, quite the opposite.
They explicitly reject tougher prison sentences for nonviolent gun possession offenses, as well as oppose tougher prison sentences for illegal possession and trafficking. Why? Because of "racial disparities" and "mass incarceration" and a fear that such policies would "harm people of color." |

Circle Internet Group recently reversed its USDC policy to allow legal firearm purchases that comply with applicable laws. The decision follows industry advocacy and aligns with federal regulatory frameworks targeting financial discrimination.
This policy update comes during increasing scrutiny of payment platforms accused of restricting access for lawful gun merchants. The change reflects the passage of the GENIUS Act, which created a federal framework for dollar-backed stablecoins in the US. |

The First District Court of Appeal recently struck down a Florida law that prohibited people from openly carrying firearms in public. The court held that section 790.053 violated the Second Amendment as applied to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment. McDaniels v. State, No. 1D2023-0533, 2025 WL 2608688 (Fla. 1st DCA Sept. 10, 2025).
McDaniels raises an interesting question about precedent: Can an intermediate appellate court set aside binding state supreme court precedent on a federal constitutional question when the U.S. Supreme Court changes the analytical framework for answering the question? First, some background. |

The overturning of the open carry decision in Florida prompted two demonstrators, calling themselves "Second Amendment auditors," to conduct an open-carry walk near Florida State University’s campus in the College Town neighborhood.
Around 6 p.m. on Oct. 15, bystanders in the College Town area noticed the open carry of a large firearm and alerted law enforcement. The demonstrators did not enter FSU’s campus and remained in the College Town area.
The pair walked around Collegetown. One individual carried two firearms, including an AR-15 and wore a Hawaiian-print shirt and a tactical vest. The other filmed the demonstration and documented it in a 50-minute livestream by the YouTube channel TheRealPressNHNow. |

Major stablecoin issuer Circle has updated a policy that previously barred customers from using its USDC token to buy firearms, marking a win for gun rights advocates who accused the company of discriminating against lawful commerce.
Circle confirmed to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a trade association representing gun manufacturers and retailers, that it changed its terms of service to permit legal weapons purchases, journalist Eleanor Terrett reported in a Crypto In America newsletter on Wednesday. |

Stablecoin issuer Circle updated its policy for one of its tokens to clarify rules regarding prohibited transactions, explicitly addressing the use of legally obtained firearms and weapons.
Crypto sleuths and reports from this week noted that Circle had updated its terms for its USDC stablecoin. The terms specifically stated that the platform had the “right to monitor and, if appropriate, block or otherwise prevent transactions” related to the purchase of firearms, ammunition, explosives and other weapons.
However, users noted that Circle had updated the terms to include weapons “in contravention of applicable laws,” suggesting that US-based users and others could legally purchase firearms using the stablecoin. |

I do not want employees in the county building or out in the county carrying guns.
When I read a statement commissioner Stephen Brand was quoted as saying in a Star Press article, I had to respond, “What?”
He said, "The reason I'm interested (in employees having guns) is I think it's important we properly balance the workplace safety, employees' rights and public trust.”
Brand’s statement sounds good — especially when the word “balance” is used — but he’s wrong, and he’s misguided. |

A House Democrat filed a bill Tuesday Nov. 4 to reinstate more than a dozen gun-free zones invalidated by an appellate court ruling that found Florida’s open carry ban unconstitutional.
The measure picked up a Senate companion the next day when Sen. Tina Polsky filed SB 406, an identical proposal.
It's unlikely either proposal will go anywhere, however, in a Legislature controlled by a supermajority of Republicans that has been reluctant to address open carry despite pressure from Gov. Ron DeSantis and other Second Amendment advocates. |

Delaware residents concerned with the state's "permit to purchase" law filed a temporary restraining order in federal court seeking to halt the new gun legislation 13 days before its implementation.
The law, which is set to go into effect Nov. 16, mandates that people receive a permit and complete gun safety training before purchasing a handgun in Delaware. The law, according to one of the plaintiffs filing the legal action, is discriminatory.
"I have sued because the law is racist and stupid," said Attorney Thomas S. Neuberger, one of seven plaintiffs, in a statement, ... |

According to national background check data, Americans picked up over a million firearms last month, again.
October saw no less than 2,289,774 background checks logged by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System. That is on par with the 2,298,383 checks done in October 2024.
After the National Shooting Sports Foundation crunched the data to remove gun permit checks and rechecks, the adjusted figure for likely retail sales stood at 1,299,312, which remains on par with the October 2024 NSSF-adjusted NICS tally of 1,302,857. |

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), along with a handful of partner organizations, have filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) urging the court to grant certiorari in a case challenging the federal ban on firearm possession by individuals who use marijuana.
The case, Harris v. United States, revolves around whether the law restricting marijuana users for purchasing or possession guns violates the Second Amendment-protected rights of those pot users. And plaintiffs are challenging the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals ruling from earlier this year. |

When people look back at Nancy Pelosi’s long run in Congress, one thing is certain — she never met a gun restriction she didn’t like. While she’s been praised in Washington for her leadership and fundraising power, her abysmal record on the Second Amendment is what gun owners will remember most.
A Career Built on Gun Control
From her earliest years in Congress, Pelosi made gun control a central part of her agenda. She framed it as a fight “for the children” and called it a moral duty to “end the gun epidemic.” But for millions of Americans who see firearm ownership as a constitutional right — not a public health issue — her message always came off as condescending and misplaced. |
